About SAMBA for BeOS:
SAMBA server for BeOS. Allows to share BeOS files and printers for non-BeOS world. It works under R5 netserver, R5+Bone7a and DanO. Also suitable for connecting BeOS computers together! (Although, SAMBA does not take care about BFS attributes, dont forget it!)
Problems with latest BeOS update (5.03 libroot.so) fixed!
Still working with BeOS 5.0, 5.01 and 5.02...
Based on GNU package from BeOS 4.5 distribution.
Minor fixes, testing, configuration, packaging, README by "fyysik".
No warranty, no support, at your own risk. GPL.
Read README first. (http://www.beos.ru/files/README_ENG_SAMBA03.zip)
Also look at BeOS SAMBA FAQ & forum.
Message "inside sys_select" in log file means that component is loaded properly and now is listening ports and waiting connection! It isn't error message.
Current example configuration is very useful and convinient, but totally
unsecure. Only security measure is 'hosts allow'/'hosts deny' string in smb.conf.
Read documentation for setting printer share.
(little example tip: to avoid setting "executable" bit for archive files,
add string "map archive = no" to [global] section of smb.conf)
Intel R4.5 note:
Compile sources under R4.5 and get missing configuration and codepage files from R5 binary package (it means whole samba/lib folder). Intel R4.5 version already tested and seems working.
NB! If Windows computer is set to "NT domain logon" SAMBA may ask for password on access attempt. There are some possibilites to logon in this case: 1) Configure SAMBA to load user/password list from NT domain password server 2) Reconfigure Windows to use simple "windows logon" or "MS network logon" instead "Domain logon" 3)Simpy try usual domain logon name and password. By default samba is set to remap all user names to "baron". In this case name and password are needed only by NT Domain Server.
And also nmbd may need some additional configuration efforts to set proper election policy in NT domain.
-----------------------------
NB!!! Works also under Bone7a and Dano (got 500 KB/s file transfer speed in 10MBit network)
