PostgreSQL 7.x for BeOS BONE
Firstly we have a few people to thank for this: Cyril Velter, Philippe Houdoin, David Reid and a few others to thank for having this on BeOS BONE.
Cyril is actively maintaining bug fixes for our favourite OS.
All i did was compile the 7.x releases and they compile with no changes required on BeOS BONE thanks to the above people.
Hosting these files costs a lot of money. Feel free to donate some money so i can keep the site going! ($USD)
It was pointed out to me that i had no description on what PostgreSQL is.
The following is copied from A History of PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is the most advanced open-source database server.
It is Object-Relational(ORDBMS), and is supported by a team of Internet developers.
PostgreSQL's ancestor was Ingres, developed at the University of California at Berkeley(1977-1985). The Ingres code was taken and enhanced by Relational Technologies/Ingres Corporation, which produced one of the first commercially successful relational database servers. (Ingres Corp. was later purchased by Computer Associates.)
Also at Berkeley, Michael Stonebraker led a team to develop an object-relational database server called Postgres(1986-1994). The Postgres code was taken by Illustra and developed into a commercial product. (Illustra was later purchased by Informix and integrated into Informix's Universal Server.) Two Berkeley graduate students, Jolly Chen and Andrew Yu, added SQL capabilities to Postgres, and called it Postgres95(1994-1995).
7.2 is the first point release in more than a year. It works very well on BeOS BONE.
If you are planning on upgrading from 7.1.x to 7.2.x then make sure read this BEFORE you install this package.
If you are upgrading from 7.2.x to 7.3.x then read the description for the new release (ie READ THIS )
If you want to compile it yourself it compiles without any issues so get the source and try it yourself :-)
