Adds BeBits and other sites to Mozillas' search facility.
This utility adds in extra search capabilities into Mozillas' Sidebar and Location bar (where you type your URLs)
The screenshot above (160KB) shows me using the Sidebar to search BeBits for the word "sybase".
The familiar BeBits search results are on the right, and the URLs are placed into the Sidebar. You don't need to use the Sidebar as you can use the Location box as well.
However the Sidebar allows you to do more advanced searching including searching using more than one search engine (Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo etc etc) which is a great feature of Mozilla.
Advanced Searching
To enable advanced searching, click on the Edit menu, then Preferences, Navigator, Internet Search and then check the Sidebar Search Tab Preferences "Advanced" option.
You'll notice that you'll have a list of search sites now appearing in the Sidebar. You can edit these and add categories by picking Edit from the dropdown list underneath the search box and button. The funny boxes next to the sites are actually checkboxes so you can check these boxes and it will search all of the sites for you.
Installation Instructions
- Go to the directory where you installed Mozilla and in there you will see a directory called searchplugins
- Unzip the .zip file in this directory.
- Restart Mozilla (it loads these up when Mozilla is started)
Viewing the Sidebar
Just hit F9 or from the View menu, Show/Hide, Sidebar.
Search Sites Installed
Currently i have added in BeBits and the IMDb. Others will follow later.
If you want to see how it works, open up bebits.src in the above directory. I have included comments on how it works.
Note, this also works on the windows version (i tested it on Windows 2000 + XP) of Mozilla, also Mandrake Linux 9.1, 9.2, 10 (Cooker and Community Edition), Solaris 7, 8 and 9 and should also work on the MacOS version too. In fact it should work on any Mozilla based browsers on any OS.
Enjoy!
