About UDF Tools:
Tools for reading and creating UDF volumes.
The following tools are included:
- udf -- Read-only UDF filesystem add-on
- makeudfimage -- Command-line program for creating UDF volumes that may be burned to a CD or DVD
- i-udf-ds -- UDF DriveSetup add-on
Here's what you can do with the tools in this version:
- Mount and read from most commercial DVDs and
most custom burned, single- and multi-session UDF DVDs and CDs.
- Create UDF 2.01 and 1.50 images that can be burned to a CD or DVD with an application such as CD Manager.
Here's what doesn't work:
- UDF discs created with packet writing software like DirectCD will
likely not mount properly (though note that discs made with Nero
InCD have been reported to work). Proper support is planned, but not considered to be a high priority due to general lack of expressed interest.
- makeudfimage does not yet support the following filesystem features: attributes, symlinks, boot images, indices, UDF/iso9660 hybrids, multi-session images. Support is planned in roughly the order listed.
For those who are now confused, UDF is the filesystem generally used on DVDs. It may be used on CDs as well. Installing the filesystem add-on will allow you to access UDF-only discs, as well as access iso9660/UDF hybrid discs using UDF, which provides better long filename and extended character set support.
Other than providing better filename support, not much is currently gained by using UDF over iso9660 when accessing hybrid discs. However, future versions will include support for BeOS attributes and indices, as well as a tool to create the appropriate UDF images. I encourage you to wait with bated breath.
For those so inclined, source is currently only available via the Haiku SVN Repository:
