About bear:
bear is a BeOS implementation of "ar", a command-line compression utility, the predecessor to LHA. This is not the same "ar" that comes with BeOS, hence the name "bear". It was written by Dr. Haruhiko Okumura, and was compiled for BeOS by Matt Senecal.
