About DeskbarSensor:
Deskbar replicant showing mainboard temperatures & fan speeds.
DeskbarSensor is the most comprehensive hardware monitoring solution for BeOS,
supporting a wide range of mainboards. It displays temperatures and fan speeds in the Deskbar
and an additional popup window; the display can be configured to suit the users
preferences.
Following sensor chips are currently supported:
- ITE: IT8705F
- National Semiconductor: LM78, LM87
- Winbond: W83697HF, W83781D, W83782D
- VIA 82C686 southbridge is supported via the external kernel driver (see links).
Other chips may work as well, as many chips are pretty similar. Especially chips from the same company usually have good compatibility.
Mainboards which have been reported to work at least partially with DeskbarSensor:
- ABit: BP6, KR7A RAID, NF7-S
- Asrock: K7S8X
- Asus: A8V, P2B-D, P5A
- Elitegroup: D6VAA, K7S5A
- Epox: 8K3A, 8KHA+, 8KMM3I
- Gigabyte: GA-6VEML, GA-7N400 Pro2
- MSI: KT2 Combo, KT3 Ultra2-C, KT4V, Pro266TD Master-LR
- PCChip: M810L
- QDI: Kudoz
- Shuttle: AB60R, FB51
- Supermicro: P6DBE
If you try DeskbarSensor on a mainboard not mentioned here, please let me know if it works.
When reporting success/bugs, please include mainboard manufacturer and precise type, so that I can expand the compatibility list.
If you get faulty readings please report all the values which are being displayed, as I
can't do tests on your mainboard, I have to rely on the data which is reported to me.
Thanks to all who have helped improving DeskbarSensor with bug & compatibility reports!

version 0.5.4 Exp (2005.04.07) - Freeware |
|
| |
 |
|
Variation description:
Experimental, binary-only release of DeskbarSensor. For full documentation refer to the latest normal release (0.5.0 beta).
Details about this version:
Changes in 0.5.4 Exp
- Fixed several bugs which crashed the Deskbar on some systems.
- Fixed rendering bug on Deskbar with non-standard background color (e.g. PhOS b6).
Changes in 0.5.3 Exp
- The popup tooltip has been replaced with a real window, with a nicely formatted table for all sensor values (see screenshot link).
- Minimum and maximum values for all sensors are logged and displayed in the popup. See README file for details on this feature and related options.
- Bugfix: the state of "Print Debug Messages" wasn't saved on exit, and was always disabled after restarting DeskbarSensor.
Changes in 0.5.2 Exp
- Debugging messages being sent to stdout can be toggled on/off with new menu item "Print Debug Messages".
- Now compiled with the new gcc 2.95.3 20041202.

version 0.5.0 beta - Freeware |
|
| |
 |
|
Details about this version:
- Popup window no longer appears if no sensor configured to show there.
- Correction factor for fan speeds, from /8 to x8; useful for fans reporting more than the normal two ticks per revolution, or when there are other problems getting the correct RPMs.
- Temperature sensors with .1°/.5°-precision can be displayed in simple format (xx°) in the Deskbar, to allow display of three temps without using too much space.
- Driver updates:
- Winbond W83781D added.
There is a slight difference between the 781D and 782D which would result in fan RPMs being reported at 1/8th on the 781D when using the 782D driver; this driver should give correct readings on 781D.
This driver is not fully tested, if there are problems, please provide bug reports with all readings from DeskbarSensor as well as the output from ISASensorScan.
- VIA 82C686 (external) added.
I've decided not to write my own 82C686 driver due to technical reasons, so I added a semi-driver which reads from the Via82C686 kernel driver in /dev/misc/Via686.
- SiS 730 removed.
This driver was buggy, and is completely superseded by the IT8705F driver.

VT82C686 driver (by Antoine Maussion) |
 |
|
 |
 |
VT82C686 driver - GPL |
|
| |
 |
|
Variation description:
This driver is required if you want to use DeskbarSensor on a mainboard which uses VIAs 82C686 southbridge for hardware monitoring.
The driver was written by Antoine Maussion, and is not part of DeskbarSensor; but as its BeBits page has vanished, I'm adding this download.
