About RAM Limiting Bootloader:
Patched Bootloader for V5.0.x and DANO based operating systems (Dano / Zeta (pre 1.0) / Phos). This bootloader and floppy image will limit the system ram to 512MB should the total installed RAM exceed this limit.
This patch is experimental, and not fully tested. It is to be regarded as alpha, and potentially harmful to your data. You must agree to use it entirely at your own risk before installing. I urge anyone with sensitive data to have it backed up before installing any software. Neither I, nor anyone else involved in these patches development can be held responsible for the loss of data and/or damage to hardware. God forbid you actually do business on your PC...
If you don't want to risk it, wait until it has be broadly tested and verified. It’s as simple as that!
It’s recommended that your computer was manufactured sometime this century if you want to install this patch. Reason being, that the boot loader requires support of the E820 feature. This became “standard” sometime after 1999? It’s not guaranteed to be available on older motherboards. Additionally, it is suspected that the boot loader will crash if ran on an unsupported motherboard. (To be verified).
It is recommended that you first test the floppy boot loader image, before over-writing your zbeos file in “boot/system”.
Credits:
Special thanks to Zadig for designing the patch code.
Thanks to CAZ for writing the int 15 utility, and pointing out the location of SMAP.
And Moooooooo and others for testing.
Additional Bootloader Versions:
Further versions of the Ram Limiter bootloader disk images, and zbeos (partition loader) can be found on mmadia's website:
http://mmadia.zelect.org/zbeos/
If you have problems such as "invalid size" errors or errors relating to file decompressing, try one of the other versions at the link above.
Regarding the other sizes of ram limited disks, the more ram your video card has, the less system ram you should allow to be detected!
