A Minesweeper and Battleship like cross-over game.
Galaxy is a small game that is inspired by a game called "Galaxis electronic" originally released by Ravensburger™ in 1980. It was one of the first board games with electronic functionality, and was also a candidate for the "Game of the Year" award (in Germany) in that year (although it didn't win).
The game principle is similar to that of Minesweeper and battleships: you see a field in front of you with hidden starships. When you reveal a cell in that field, you see either a number that determines how many ships are visible from that cell, or a ship, if you're lucky.
This version is just a beta release that I wrote last weekend, it has quite a number of (missing) features though:
- almost no game play
- no sound
- no real graphics
- only one player games for now
- resizable interface and full screen mode
- no settings file
- no ability to change the size of the board
- no high scores
- no double buffering
Even in this early state, it's quite addictive, though. When I'll find the time, I plan to add a (LAN/internet) multi player game mode, as well as some real graphics (even though the current theme will be preserved, because it looks quite nice in my opinion), and eventually some sounds. I am open for suggestions, and would welcome any nice artwork (an icon would be nice for a start), even though I can't promise I'll integrate it in the game.
