Does emacs frighten you? Does vi make you pound the desk? Does pico do not quite everything you need? Then ne (the nice editor) is for you.
ne has a text-based menu with easy to remember CTRL shortcuts. There are very few modes as in vi. It has multiple documents, search and replace, cut/copy/paste, jump to line, macro recording, and assorted handy function keys.
