 License:   Freeware
 Updated:   December 12, 2001

Changes:
  • Feature: Calender with month by month view. Don't complain about it not working, as it's a work in progress. And no it doesn't sync to your palm ;)
  • Upgraded the font selection dialog to include typeface preview, and bold/italic/underline options.
  • Fixed some scroll bar problems.
  • Fixed tabbing around dialogs (mostly).
  • Fixed Drag & Drop.
  • Fixed Cut/Copy/Paste in the editor.
  • Fixed garbage being appended on the end of a Paste.
This should be be the final release of the BeOS build of Scribe, short of there being any major problems with this version. I'm moving on to greener pastures.

This is a fully fledged release of the v1.5x tree. It should run good.

However it is probably the second last release of Scribe for BeOS that I will do. BeOS is no longer being updated and I'm moving to AtheOS and Linux. There will be one more bug fix release after this. Get your bugs in now!

ESMTP support, Wrapping Editor, bug fixes. This is a beta. Tell me how it goes (or doesn't) and I'll fix it. Please back up any mail folders before using this version.

Full list of changes:

  • Fixed the receive command's shortcut so it doesn't conflict with new message
  • Made the preview pane read only.
  • Next/Prev buttons on the mail window select the current mail in the main window.
  • Can exit while still loading folders, doesn't crash.
  • Double clicking on a matched contact on the mail window's recipients list opens the that contact's window.
  • Fixed the Notes field in the Contact window to be multi-line again.
  • Fixed the accent chars in the editor not wrapping and generally being a pain.
  • Changed/improved the account status display to a panel instead of just a readout along the bottom. Also moved the progress info into the status panel. Added a client/server transaction log into the status window.
  • Added ESMTP (authenticated SMTP) support. Initially this will support the "LOGIN" method only. If you need more methods then tell me.
  • Added directory selection ability to the Outlook Express importer. I still havn't found a .dbx that it chokes on. If anyone has one, send it my way!
  • Fixed saving attachments with a path component.
  • Changed the attachment save to "select folder" if more than one attachment is selected. Ie. you can't specify filenames, just a directory to save to.
  • Fixed the cursor going into the partially displayed line at the bottom of the text editor. Made a lot of other small improvements to the text editor.

Temporary beta till wednesday. Only download if your reeeally keen.
I will be uploading v1.34 to fix some issues in this release very soon. I suggest you hold off till then. This entry is just for completeness sake. Thanks.

Things that are fixed:
- Preview window works again
- Preview window now uses the same font as the message compose area. Useful when the font your using has support for other character encodings
- Fixed multiple folders being "open" after double clicking the new mail icon
- Improved/Fixed? selecting get stuck "on" when the shift key is up
- Removed some hang's in the repair folder code
- Added drag'n'drop to the folder tree so you can reorganise the folders to your hearts content
- Can't delete folders used by the system, "Inbox", "Trash" etc.
- Added options for the user to select which folders are used by the system.
- Fixed the filter code to check against all recipients instead of just the first one when the field is "To:"
- Added translation system for almost all user interface elements. The translations into the various languages are stored in a SGML file in the same directory as the exectable. It's possible to customise the text in UI and the layout of the dialogs. Translation information is stored in a text file in the same directory as the executable file. This allows anyone to edit the user interface. There is an application for editing the resource file graphically called "LgiRes" available on my website. If the file is not there then the application will not load.
- Renaming system folders doesn't cause scribe to malfunction. The name of the folder is tracked in the options.
- Added "new from draft" in the mail menu, and the corrasponding "drafts" folder
- Added option to switch off population of the recipients list from the clipboard
- Added option to draw grid lines in the main list view
- Added option to not draw the lines of preview text below unread messages
- Added keyboard navagation to the list boxes.
- Added a better description to the Socks5 settings so that people stop screwing up their connections by fiddling with it, grrrrr!

Things that are broken in this version (but are fixed for the next one):
- Right clicking on some (all?) stuff (yeah I know, how bad is this)
- The "mark all for sending" to mark all items marks just the last one
- The "create subfolder" dialog doesn't work

Source is available for the GUI frame I use but not the application itself. Also there is a commercial version of this if your want to financially support BeOS software developers.

Some fixes.
- Fixed 8-bit support.
- Added keyboard shortcuts to the main window.
- Fixed Cut/Copy/Paste on the mail composition area.
- Option to download mail on startup.
- Fixed the error dialogs to tell you when the Pop3/Smtp options aren't configured.
- Message composition area continues to scroll when the mouse is help down outside the window but not moving.
- MIME emails with no EOF boundry will decode properly. Thank M$ Outlook for that little one :(

Known problem:

Coupla new features, few bugs fixed. Keeping in sync with Win32 version.
- Fixed the "Leave Mail on Server" feature to use a list of unique Id's instead of a message count. This means that scribe will co-exist peacefully with other mail clients downloading mail from the server. The downside is it's a little slower.
- The POP3 account viewer now lists the email's from and subject fields. This means that it's much easier working out what you want to delete and download. Each message also has an icon showing whether the email is new on the server or old. All messages on the server are shown, even ones that have been downloaded before.
- Socks5 support.
- Support for the "X-Priority" flag in both the UI and mail fields.
- Added the "Sent Date" field to emails.
- Fixed sorting and columns of folders saving their state on exit.
- Made the commercial feature for editing the folder's fields available in the free version.
- Stopped the attachments from being blanked out after you send them (and exit).
- Optimised moving items to large folders so that the folders don't have to be loaded to accept a new item.
- Fixed a bug in the attachment object load function. Should nail some hangs and give the correct MIME type in the attachments tab.
