R5.0.3 compatibility is back! Now, it is guaranteed to work with no authentication problems for any BeOS version. Please read the updated Readme_For_BeOS file for more information, which is included in the archive.

This version was compiled for R4.5, but I tested the db and works fine on my R5 too.
I changed the Readme_for_BeOS file a bit and added some remarks/explanations, to make the installation easier to newbies.

This database port has problems on BeOS 5. I recommend to track down a newer version of PostgreSQL 7.2 (also found on BeBits) and a BeOS 5.0.4+ that has BONE as its networking stack instead of the flaky net_server.

There were some people who reported that they had an error message about the username given, and they could not init the database. The new version uploaded includes an updated Readme_for_BeOS, which explains that you have to: export USER={username} before initing the db. (the default 'baron' username won't work for security reasons)

I uploaded a small screenshot of my terminal. This has to work for you the same. This 'pg_id username' command has to return 0. If it returns NOUSER, while you may have just exported USER=username it means that you are running BeOS 5.0.3.

********* IMPORTANT *********
I just found out that BeOS 5.0.3 is incompatible with PostgreSQL 6.5. You have to use 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. It seems that Be changed the way that $USER value can be obtained, after that FTP bug found on 5.0.3 and it is now incompatible. I also know that because of this change, EMACS also doesn't work on BeOS 5.0.3.
