Note please that V0.120 has been online since 27 april 2002. If you already downloaded this app from BeBits after that date, you already have this version installed.
Note also that I have added Kevin's alpha video consumer node including sourcecode below. It's working if you have both a Matrox card and a supported Nvidia card installed. However: it's unsupported and largely untested: you use it at your own risk. It might be a good example of how to setup a node yourself though if you are a programmer...
BeTVOut application V0.120 - 27 april 2002
- Autodetect connection status updated: Did not work properly on CX chips;
- Minor 'bugfix' release (V0.119). Increases output quality on some cards.
Included in downloads:
MK-MediaPlayer by Kevin Patterson.
This (alpha quality) mediaplayer plays back the video stream via the media consumer node selected in the Media Preferences panel. It does not need BeTVOut to be able to work.
Known issues:
(These issues are chipset specific and cannot be overcome...)
- VGA picture is a bit truncated on the left and right side with dualhead clone NTSC 800x600 mode with systems that use a Brooktree chip (so does not apply for Chrontel systems).
- VGA picture is a bit truncated on the left and right side with dualhead clone NTSC 720x480 mode with systems that use a Chrontel chip (so does not apply for Brooktree systems).
- (Horizontal) overscan ratios are not (exactly) right for DVD modes with Chrontel chips: PAL overscans too little while NTSC overscans too much. This does not apply for Brooktree chips.
For the best TVout experience in non-standard Desktop modes you would best use a videocard with Brooktree or Conexant CX TVout chip.
Also note please that picture quality on VGA and TV may be less than optimal if you use a 'no-name' VGA card. This is due to the specific circuit board design of such a card.

BeTVOut application V0.118 - 8 april 2002
- Conexant support is finally tuned: All modes are stable and centered now;
- CH7008 update: chiptype is identified now;
- If RIVA is found to be secondary card, a coldstart and modeswitch are tried to fixed 800x600x16bit resolution (not usable yet! Look at our site for more information...);
- experimental IIC FIELD signal checking routine for BT/CX chips included.
Included in downloads:

BeTVOut application V0.117 - 25 januari 2002
- All planned TVout modes are implemented. These are standard desktop modes 640x480 and 800x600, and the VCD/MPEG1 and DVD overscanning modes; all for both PAL and NTSC.
Modifications for this version:
- Conexant CX25870 and CX25871 TVout-chip support included;
- If BT/CX detection fails during the process, CH detection is tried before exiting. This solves the 'IIC error 3' abort on some videocards.
Known issues:
(These issues are chipset specific and cannot be overcome...)
- VGA picture is a bit truncated on the left and right side with dualhead clone NTSC 800x600 mode with systems that use a Brooktree chip (so does not apply for Chrontel systems).

BeTVOut application V0.11.5 - 11/13 december 2001
- All planned TVout modes are implemented now. These are standard desktop modes 640x480 and 800x600, and the VCD/MPEG1 and DVD overscanning modes; all for both PAL and NTSC.
Modifications for this version:
- Program restructured for use of new PCI riva_iic drivers (above V0.20: current driver included V0.22; the V0.1x drivers were ISA drivers.);
- Modes 9,10,11 and 12 report correct refreshrates via BScreen API and Be 'screens prefs' app, all other modes report 60Hz for now: this also updates BeTVOut for retrace-synced use with the latest VLC;
- Autodetection of RIVA card type;
- App/driver interlock mechanism improved to prevent incompatible combinations from being used;
- Chrontel DVD modes display position better tuned for use with TNT1 and GeForce2 (app V0.11.4 already);
- NTSC VCD mode for BT on TNT1 updated for stable output (app V0.11.4);
- Partial dualVGA card (test) support included:
- One AGP and one PCI card only;
- Only one RIVA card supported as secondary card: so the primary card needs to have a different chipset;
- Autodetection of RIVA status: primary or secondary card (relative to Be Desktop).
Dualcard Functionality:
- Access to IIC bus works;
- If you have a BT you should be able to generate a PAL or NTSC testimage on TV;
- For more info, see our site.
Known issues:
(These issues are chipset specific and cannot be overcome...)
- VGA picture is a bit truncated on the left and right side with dualhead clone NTSC 800x600 mode with systems that use a Brooktree chip (so does not apply for Chrontel systems).

Also note please that picture quality on VGA and TV may be less than optimal if you use a 'no-name' VGA card. This is due to the specific circuit board design of such a card.

Modifications for this version:
- Added Brooktree NTSC640x480 mode with overscan (NTSC VCD/MPEG1) (for non-VESA use only). Works also in dualhead 'clone' mode.
- Try it with VLC (preferably synced to the vga_retrace!) for MPEG1/VCD or DVD, looks very nice (sharp!) on TV... (see VCD/DVD playback info and tips/modifications for VLC on BeTVOut page)
Known issues:
(These issues are chipset specific and cannot be overcome...)

BeTVOut application V0.11.1 - 25 october 2001
- Both (PAL and NTSC) DVD modes are working now with CH and BT chips. (for non-VESA use only). Works also in dualhead 'clone' mode (PAL: 50Hz on VGA!);
- Try it with VLC, looks very nice (sharp!) on TV... (see DVD playback info on BeTVOut page)
Known issues:
(These issues are chipset specific and cannot be overcome...)

with systems that use a Brooktree chip (so does not apply for Chrontel systems);
- On TNT1 you can see some 'cursor trash' on VGA above the top of the picture if mouse is at

--------------
BeTVOut application V0.09 - 19 august 2001
- PAL 640x480 and 800x600 support included (any colordepth);
- NTSC 640x480 and 800x600support included (any colordepth);
- Autodetection for TV connection (cable/card specific) included;
- 'current videomode compatible' checks included;
- Singlehead (TVout while VGA is switched off) and dualhead 'clone' (hack) mode included;
- Now works also if you boot on TV (disconnect VGA for this) with VESA 'driver'
(so you can turn on dualhead clone mode then);
- Tested with 'unified nvidia videodriver', standard Be 'riva-tnt' videodriver and VESA 'videodriver';
- Tested on TNT1 and TNT2 cards with BT868/BT869 TVout chip;
- supports 2D acceleration (and 3D acceleration probably) if supported by videodriver.
