I fixed a nasty bug which made previous versions take up to a minute to scan a single midi port. SynthScan is now up to 12 times faster (that's right 1200% faster). It now takes approximately 4 or 5 seconds to scan each port.
There are 244 midi devices detectable so far.

I added OS/Rom version detection for a number of synths. Previously, in alpha 8, only the Yamaha TX7 supported version detection. Alpha 9 adds version detection for an additional 40+ synths!!
Along with being able to detect the difference between the Kawai K5000 S/W/R, and being able to detect the OS version, Alpha 9 also detects the presence of the ME-1 memory expansion.

This release sends only a 7F ID request, which should call devices on any channel. Previously a 7F was sent to all ports along with a specific call to each midi channel. Any devices previously detectable should be detected still; but there could be some devices which don't respond to 7F, and may not be detected with this release. I need everyone who has tested it thus far to test it again, and send me any new results, as again synths detected before may not be detected now. This release gets rid of the double detection of devices found in the last release.
On a side note, SynthScan now detects the version number of the Yamaha TX7 OS-ROM. OS/ROM version detection will be expanded in the next release, which may not happen for a couple weeks due to research projects at my University, which I have been putting off for too long.

I believe I fixed a bug which caused the Alesis QS and Nano synths not to be detected. Needs to be tested however. I added the first proprietary ID request, which detects the Yamaha TX7, it may also return a Yamaha Unidentified Device for the DX7 and other compatable 6op synths, please send me any reults from these synths. Added support for the E-Mu E4 series, however the e6400 Ultra and the E5000 have the same ID response 05h 05h, so I can't tell the difference between them right now, I will look into this.

Fixed a bug that displayed the SysEx strings incorrectly.
Luckily this didn't stop me from reading the returned results (2 people so far).
From these results I tried to add support for the following synths:
(* = new this version)
-Alesis(D4, DM5, QS6, QS7, QS8, QSR, nanoPiano, nanoSynth, nanoBass)
-E-Mu(e4x*, E5000*, Proteus2000*)
-Kawai (K5000S)
-Quasimidi(Rave-o-lution 309*, Polymorph*)
-Waldorf(microQ*)
-Yamaha(AN1x*)
Please send in results of your setup to get more synths added.

This is the first release:
It won't automatically detect much right now, but it should detect the following:
Alesis(D4, DM5, QS6, QS7, QS8, QSR, nanoPiano, nanoSynth, nanoBass)
Kawai (K5000S)
However, we need it to be tested with all synths to add more support.
