The new version of Spirograph is delivered!
New features include:
"Random" color works now. ("Rainbow" and "Custom" still don't).
Menu bar extended and updated with new menus.
Added option to use a predefined color for the background. Use menu "Background" to color the background in one of predefined colors.
Added option to use an external image for the background. Loading image is possible with "Alt+O" keyborad shortcut, with "File > Open as background" menu, with the "Layers > Background" menu, with "Background > Load Image" menu. Drag'n'drop from the Tracker is supported as well.
Added layers. Now each curve exists in separate layer, and you may reordrer curves as you wish, placing previous curves on top of more recently added ones. A great design addition! Currently number of layers is limited to 20, though you will rarely achieve this number of curves in one drawing.
Known problems:
"Cyan" color for the background doesn't look cyan. :-)
If you don't alter parameters, after 4 - 8 attempts to add a new curve (which will be the same curve added over and over again) you'll receive debugging alerts like "This bitmap is already taken" et cetera. Just don't mind these messages.
In planned releases:
Custom color support for the drawing and for the background.
Allowing the customer to decide what is the maximal number of layers. Therefore - implementing a kind of "Preferences".
Allowing to save curves as "Favourites".
Allowing the user to define a center for the curve.
Creating an "About" information box.
Updating the "Readme" with information about the inventor of the "Spirograph".

The new version of the "Spriograph" is available!
This time the application has two new cool features, which were so requested by the users:
1. Now it may save files using any installed translator which supports saving a picture. From now on clicking "File > Save as..." or Alt+S will open file save panel. What is more important - it even works! :-)
2. Drag-and-drop into Tracker is now supported as well; the dragged-out file is saved in BMP format under name "Spirograph Bitmap".
3. The application is now multithreaded, therefore after you press "Draw!", the button changes to "Stop". Clicking it again pauses the calculation. New curve is not displayed until it is fully calculated.
If this application is so good, why is it Beta?
The application is good, but it has some serious issues (definetly not "bugs"!) which shall be treated before it is released as a final release.
First of all, the thread which draws the curve is now killed upon clicking "Stop". Which is not good, since it guarantees some memory leak. Besides, the button's action now is not "Stop" but "Pause", since after clicking "Draw!" again the application finishes previous curve first.
Besides, the application is now dealing with your hard disk. Therefore I shall say again: I don't provide any warranty, of any kind! Though it never misbehaved on my computer.
What will be in next releases?
First of all, the application will be redesigned, allowing the drawing thread to be stopped and not just paused. Second of all, user will receive choise of setting speed of drawing. Third of all, the application will support printing from it. Fourth, user will be given the ability to choose custom color for the curve and for the background. (This is the easiest part, may be implemented already in the next release).
Thanks to the late Be, Inc for providing the demo source code which allowed me to add translator output support without understanding Translator Kit! :-)

Version Spirograph v1.1.
Differences from the Spirograph v1.0:
1. Added "Pen width" slider. It allows to adjust the width of drawn curve in range of 1 - 10 pixels.
Please note that you will rarely use line width greater then 1 pixel, else you won't see blanks between lines. But this feature is great for drawing multi-colored curves, like one displayed in the Readme.
2. Added 3rd gear option (the credits for idea goes to Super Dave Osbourne from the Talkback). You may enable the 3rd gear using the checkbox at the bottom.
The idea is that one gear (external, aka ring) is static. Inside of it rotates another ring, and it is always in contact with the external gear. Inside of this ring rotates a gear with hole, which is used for drawing.
The "3rd Gear" rotates with different speed (10 times as fast as) and in different direction then the internal gear. Result of its drawing may be seen in the Readme.
Other restrictions from v1.0 apply.
There's no multithreading, so there's no way to stop the application after you've pressed "Draw!" but to kill it.
"Fixed angle" checkbox still presents, and it applies both to the drawings created in 2-gear and to the drawings created in 3-gear systems. (See example in the Readme).
Still no background color change support and no image saving from inside the application. I'm now working to add menus to this application, maybe as soon as I'll add the menus I'll be able to add this functionality as well.
Updated Readme now available also on-line (see "Home page" link in the top left corner of this page).
