This version contains a few more binaries (such as info/texinfo) and a greatly improved installation process (includes and install script).
The 9mb archive contains tetex binaries compiled on BeOS R5.0.3 (without BONE).
The texmf distribution that contains all the fonts, etc, required for tex/latex is a 50mb separate download(links on this page). Without this, the binaries are useless.
Despite the mess below, there are only two different archives to download, the 9mb and 50mb archives. You will need both files for an installation of tetex. I create the 9mb binary archive and if I update tetex, that is the one you should download. Once you have the 50mb one, you shouldn't need to download it again but it is required for future installations. The addition of mirrors/lots of files seems to have be a bug in bebits.
You will need bzip2 installed to extract the binaries.
Make sure you read the README included in the 9mb binary archive!
A simple install script is also included that will take care of everything.
Update You can now create your latex documents easily using BeTeX

This archive contains binaries compiled on BeOS R5.0.3 (without BONE). The binaries are to be installed into ~/config/teTeX. The texmf distribution that contains all the fonts, etc, required for tex/latex is a 50mb separate download. Without this, the binaries are useless.
You will need bzip2 installed to extract the binaries. A link is provided to bzip2 along with a link to where the above 50mb archive can be aquired.
Read the README included for Installation instructions.
If you are having troubles modifying the /system/boot/SetupEnvironment file, you may look at the one that I use here:
http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~brentmor/SetupEnvironment
At the moment there isn't a working dvi viewer on BeOS so you'll have to stick with pdf format for creating your documents. Type up the code for your document in your .tex file and you have a few choices:
pdflatex doc.tex #make sure you have the right packages loaded
or
latex doc.tex
dvipdfm doc.dvi
You can then use BePDF to view your PDF documents. The alt-r shortcut in BePDF will enable easy previewing of your document.
