BeBits is powered by a server named Marvin, after the robot in Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" stories. That Marvin was manufactured by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation; our Marvin was built with the assistance of the wonderful folks out there in the BeOS community.
Marvin is powered by a single Intel Pentium 4 processor at 2.8 GHz, and has 2 GB of RAM. Marvin also has a whole lotta disk space to keep stuff on.
For an operating system, Marvin runs Linux 2.6.21-2-686. The site is written almost entirely using PHP version 5.2.0-8+etch10, with a little bit of Perl thrown in here and there to even the mix. The database stuff is handled admirably by mySQL 5.0.45-Debian_1-log.
The web serving part of BeBits is taken care of by Apache/1.3.34. Colocation is provided by NetConnect, a great ISP in Monticello, Iowa with multiple T-1 lines that connect right to the Internet! Wow!
Now, time for a few plugs... many, many thanks to the folks who donated money and clicked on banner ads over the years. Many of our plans and much of the growth we've experienced simply wouldn't have been possible without you; the BeOS community is incredibly lucky to have such folk in their midst.
Also, we should mention the swell folks over at NetConnect. They've been great to work with, and have given us a great colocation rate that allows us to keep providing great service to y'all. If you're looking for a colocation provider, NetConnect is definitely worth considering!
