problem sending messages.
 By mmadia - Posted on February 10, 2006 - 23:58:36   (#19042)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.5.6
some users are experiencing issues sending messages.
receiving messages appears to work properly.

my guess is that the protocol, which BeAIM uses is no longer supported by AOL.

note: IM Kit's aim protocol is functional as it uses a newer protocol. however there are major issues preventing it from working on net_server; mainly issues in net_server's select().

Good program

Pretty good.
Has all the basic funtionality of AIM.
Works nice.

My only problem is with this message that comes up when I chat saying I may have missed some messages because the other user was talking alot. (even if they arent)

Has anyone else had problems with the block list in the latest release? Users that I have blocked are still able to send me messages.

- @mac.com screen name support
- Typing notification
- Support and editing of server-stored data
- Turkish translation added
- Italian translation added
- And loads of little bug fixes...

Excellent!

I'm very happy to see this getting maintained again. I especially like that there is the "No HTML" option, which will make it easier to tutor people on HTML via AIM.

I have version 1.5.6 beta1 It seems to work.

It connects OK, but I guess I have to find some people also using AOL to chat.

Clarification

Current version when comment was posted: 1.5.2
Just to clarify something that really should have been obvious: the work is Kyle Donaldson's. I just posted a link to his site as a public service. I am *not* the one who updated this, as has now apparently been posted on both TBJ and BeGroovy, all the credit (and there is a lot of it) should go to him.

AIM Registration

Current version when comment was posted: 1.5.2
You need a AOL IM screen name to log on to AIM.

http://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login/login.psp?siteId=aimregistrationPROD&authLev=1&mcState=initialized&createSn=1&triedAimAuth=y

Then type in your New Screen Name & Password into the BeAIM setup and login.

Do I have to make an AOL account using windows?
I am behind a firewall, so I guess I have to open some port before it can work.

I installed this on Zeta, and it seems to hang the login window on connect. The Zeta bundled version seems to work better (except that it loses my buddy lists all the fookin time). =P

OMFG! It works! THANX SOOOOOO MUCH FOR GETTING THIS BACK!!!

I lost a vital lifeline to many contacts in the music world when that AIM compatibility issue came up, so you have no idea how much this means to me to get this new version out there.

Q: should this new version have it's own BeBits page though?

Making BeAIM 1.5.5a beta work...
 By fatrat - Posted on January 18, 2004 - 12:05:11   (#10639)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.5.2
Hi all,

If you are getting booted from the BeAIM server when you try to connect, then you probably need to modify the code for BeAIM and recompile (at least in BeAIM 1.5.5) to add some delays to the sequence where it connects to the server. Details are here:

http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=oIjub.19832%24Ro5.10588%40fed1read07

You can get the latest 1.5.5a beta source code off of BeShare...

NB: To get the net_server version to build, I had to use the original compilers that came with BeOS PE/Pro (NOT the "newer" 2.95.3 ones on BeBits, also in a lot of the newer free BeOS distros), and had to add libtranslaton.so to the project file. Once you have those, and make the code changes mentioned in that newsgroup posting (link above on Google), you shold be good to go. You may also have to hand-copy the binary into the target directory, the installation script failed on that one for me too.

Good luck!

-Fatrat

How to Compile BeAIM

I would like to try the fix that Elliotro mentioned earlier. I downloaded the source for BeAIM-1.5.5 but I couldn't get it to compile. I tried the usual ./configure and make but no luck. How do I do compile BeAIM?

Sorry about all of the problems with 1.5.5. That's my doing. Today, I'm going to roll the features and fixes in my codebase (unreleased -beta3) back into 1.5.2. Tonight, it should be available on BeShare.

BeAIM connects too quickly

A fix was found for the disconnect feature by Cyan Helkaraxe. You have to recompile BeAIM (if someone is willing to share a fixed BeAIM build, please do so) following the instructions at http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=oIjub.19832%24Ro5.10588%40fed1read07

but i have recently had a problem that persists between versions: i get disconnected immediately after connecting. everytime. i can connect with my linux box behind the same router, so i know its not a misdirected port... anyone else haviong this problem? i have been 100% unable to connect for the past 7 days.

Why is the file size of 1.5.5 to HUGE compare to other beaim?
 By TryingBe - Posted on November 16, 2003 - 11:00:23   (#9655)

17.8mb (1.5.5) compare to 1.3mb (1.5.2)

I understnad that the 1.5.5 suppose to work in DANO too, but why is it so big?

If you can, please include the word BeAIM in the subject line - for filtering purposes, for me.

I tried all of the default BeShare servers, no dice to find 1.5.5; everyone on there has 1.5.2. Please either post a link to it, or email it to me at fatrat@fat-rat.com; once I have it, I can put it up on my website and post the link here (until we can get the version here on BeBits updated.)

The ONLY place I could find mention of 1.5.5 through Google was a Japanese BeOS site, but they only mentioned it in passing, and didn't give a download location.

Thanks,

AOL changed the AIM protocol...?
 By fatrat - Posted on September 7, 2003 - 14:12:53   (#8728)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.5.2
Hello,

As of yesterday, it looks like AOL has upgraded the AIM protocol; on the Windows side users are being told to download a new client (5.2 or something like that), and BeAIM tries to connect but just hangs once it opens the connection to the AIM server ("Connecting to AIM server...")

Please, please update this client to work with the new changes!! I have been using BeAIM for months and months now, and it is such a simple and stable IM client...

Thanks!
