new pe build

you may want to check the new pe from the oficial beunited mantainer...

here: http://www.bebits.com/app/3864

Details about this version:
As the other Pe-entries on BeBits are either very old or broken, the
Pe team decided to release a new version. This is meant to be a more or less regular release, something like a monthly build, if you want...

Here are some of the changes:
the function-popup no longer hangs Pe when opened too long
a nifty "find function"-popup has been added
FTP-access is working better now
support for even more languages (Asm, Lua) has been added
all dialogs are much nicer to use in focus-follows-mouse mode
lots of other new features and bugfixes

The author decided not to continue development of Pe or his other products. Pe was open-sourced and is now a beunited.org project.

!!! the pe homepage is gone !!!

It was compiled under R5 PE, has a few bugs inside (not my fault). And im afraid i have some troubles trying to add a x-latex mime type.

Feel free to e-mail me a better way to doit.

(Flames are also accepted).

bebits.ru is down.
You can d/l pe (compiled under BONE, though) on www.beos.ru/files/pe.zip

No luck finding pe on bebits.ru

can be downloaded from here:

I think it don't work under plain BeOS (netserver) though

Where can I find a binary?

Does anyone know where I can find a binary of this program? Can one of you who has downloaded and compiled it successfully from BeUnited email me the zip file or post a link to it?

Thanks so much,
David

BeUnited CVS is back !
I've been told they were moving servers, so that's why the service has been interrupted yesterday.

Also, in case you can't compile because of 'libmail.so', try doing this in the Terminal:

ln -s /system/lib/libmail.so /boot/develop/lib/x86

hint on BONE bug

Just found this in my syslog:

Sep 2 23:47:18 'ftpd'[10469]: connection from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1)
Sep 2 23:47:18 'ftpd'[10469]: FTP LOGIN FROM 127.0.0.1 as revol
Sep 2 23:47:18 Throwing: "Port command failed: 500 Illegal PORT range rejected. " at ./Sources/CFtpDialog.cpp:455
Sep 2 23:47:27 Throwing: "Port command failed: 500 Illegal PORT range rejected. " at ./Sources/CFtpDialog.cpp:455

If anyone wants to patch it for BONE... won't do it, as I use vi+XEmacs :)

ok...

> the third does something but WHAT?
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@code.beunited.org:/cvs/pe co rez

This checks out the source for rez, which is a resource command line utility used when compiling Pe, si it needs to be compiled too.

Just use the commands I list, when prompted for Password: just hit the enter key.

---
btw I'm still looking out the BONE issues, looks to be a bit better with:
LDFLAGS="-lbnetapi" CFLAGS="-Dclosesocket=close" make
but still not useful.

hmm sadly no help

I have never used CVS & while I tried to figure things out I so far have not succeeded. The stuff you provided is good but dont help me. I tried the first cvs asks for a pass word... I dont rembmer the password. the third does something but WHAT?! THe CVS guides I have read make no sense to me. Can you explain the procedure a tad more & or make a pre compiled binary for download.

This is one of the best BeOS apps out there. I was very happy to pay for my copy, but I am also happy to see now that it has a new lease on life. BU is kicking some a**!

Pe open-sourced !!!

BeUnited did it !
After having some issues with anonymous cvs, here is how to get it:

cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@code.beunited.org:/cvs/pe login
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@code.beunited.org:/cvs/pe co pe
cd pe
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@code.beunited.org:/cvs/pe co rez
make

BONE issues:
Here is how you can compile it for BONE, however I make no waranties.
ln -s /boot/develop/headers/be/bone/sys/socket.h /boot/develop/headers/be/bone/
and use this instead of make:
CFLAGS="-Dclosesocket=close" make

Notes:
* The ln -s trick is Bad(tm), a better way is to replace every #include <socket.h> by #include <sys/socket.h>, which is net_server backward compatible, and cleaner.
* Looks like networking doesn't work with BONE.

Thanks!

Thanks... $15 is definatly reasonable & think I will try to save up the money & buy it in a few months... thats about $30 my currency :( heh

Pe can still be purchased through Kagi. It would probably take lots of encouragement to get the author to continue updating it, but he sounded open to considering it as OpenBeOS, etc. progresses. I bought my copy through Kagi in March for $15. Well worth the money.

the epic continues...

Now that I see this is no longer available I wonder is it "Abandonware" & if so where can we find it since he's not selling it anymore... Mind you while I am interested in this while I can understand his need to earn a living $50 is more then Gobe cost me... [ heh Gobe was $7 USD plus tax & shipping - Love liquidator stores - sad that they had resellers sending the Gobe stock to liquidators though, but it's good for us poor peoples ;) ]

One of the best text editors I've used, on any system. Fast, responsive, intuitive... highlighting works great. I like nearly everything about it.

Very nice.
