i still can't get .oggs to show up in my searches, the way mp3 sound files, aiffs, etc all do uner "audio"...

You know You can add it Yourself?
Just open BeOS->Preferences->FileTypes, and in audio group add new mime :) After that set default app to app You want to play ogg files with.
