Try editing the file /etc/hosts with a text editor and add the line:
127.0.0.1 localhost
if it isn't there already.

Whoa. That is wierd -- I'm not able to ping localhost (or 127.0.0.1) at all. Of course, I'm writing this from a web browser, and actually listening to a streaming Mp3 Jazz site --- Does anyone know how to reactivate localhost? (boneyard claims it's active)

There is no plan to support an http proxy, because as I understand it, http is not a full bidirectional protocol. That is to say (and correct me if I'm wrong), under HTTP you can connect, then send some data, then receive data, but once you have started receiving data you aren't allowed to send anymore. MUSCLE relies on being able to send and receive data at any time over a single TCP connection.
ps Isaac make sure that your computer's Internet connection is working properly (i.e. you can view web pages and such) and also make sure that you are able to ping 127.0.0.1 and localhost without problems (BeShare depends on being able to make TCP connections to 127.0.0.1 for its internal control mechanisms)

Ok, so I have the same error as Zak. BeShare loads absolutely nothing. I tried stepping through using bdb (but got sick of that *real* fast.
The funny thing is that it works just fine on my laptop, which I cloned off of this machine not too long ago, though I probably have downloaded different versions of BeShare?

I am not paying for free software, if you, Jeremy want to change the facts, it's up to you. But I still think that BeShare is way better than Ozone and if I need to select which one I will use, I will select BeShare.
As for that you tell me being childish, that has no base. We have been nice to you for too long that you don't even remember what great working _free_ software and continued support means to the community.

Many times when I was at BeShare I used to send priv messages to Monni The Cat. Problem was that...
/msg Monni The Cat <message>
...also sends it to M (user in BeShare) as priv. This should not happen.
I would be very happy if you could fix it.

Hey Garjala,
Please summarize the bug you are referring to (preferably with an example of actual behaviour vs expected behaviour), so I know exactly which bug we are talking about.
Thanks,

I am very confident that the bugs will get worked out. My experience has been that problems -- even ones I consider low-priority -- get fixed almost as quickly as they are discovered. This is not only really great software, but a vital part of the BeOS community...especially post-Be, Inc. Keep sending in bug reports and hang loose.

For what it's worth, this guy's idea of "notification" is to send emails swearing at the software and its author. So it's no wonder he doesn't get much co-operation. Since he doesn't pay me, I don't need to put up with his childishness.

There was no reason for such harsh commentary. If there are issues with Jeremy's work, let him know and I'm sure he will address them in time.

I get stupid "Replacing BSyncReplyTarget: Operation timed out." when trying to start this version and sources won't even compile. Some users have also reported that downloads or uploads hang if one of the users is behind firewall. Killing transfer doesn't seem to help. And many times if I get this version to connect it will drop connection soon after and does that until I shut down my machine.
The sources think that I have BONE installed, but doesn't adapt using correct headers when compiling some files in "santa". Mostly I get errors with BList or BView.

Lets not get Jeremy too puffed up. Remember he has consistantly failed to add my glorious, fantastic, wonderful, awe-inspiring /uptime command code. For this he should get a public caning and a few months in BGA's basement.
But despite this great shortcoming I still must concede that he is a pretty nice guy. Just wouldn't want it to go to his head. :^)

sketzski and micke thankyou very much for your replies, i did for a moment think no one would be reading this, but I was wrong, thank god.
Back to the problem I have tried Micke's suggestion still the same problem.
On trying to follow the suggestion by Sketzski, unfortunately I have only been running my copy of dano for a couple of weeks and as yet don't understand the implications of Be as an OS fully. I have checked Boneyard and am indeed getting the DNS entries and IP via DHCP through my cable modem the internet access works fine. the only thing i can't find is where the services are so I can check them
can you enlighten me please
thankyou again

Zak,
I was recently faced with the same issue. I have been running r5 for some time now, a few years. But recently i decided to also install a Dan0 partition in order to work on some applications. I know that Zeta may be Dan0 based and am trying out some code.
Back to BeShare.
Anyway if your problem has to do with Bone or Dano this will help. BoneYard was telling me that I was connected to the internet when in reality I was not. Only one service was up and it was a internetwork file somthing that didnt even work. And since BeShare could not recieve any info from the network stack the window would not load. All i did was fool with the Bone settings and set them to DHCP (which does not work in NetServer for me). I can see the same thing happening in r5 w/ NetServer if there is no connection established. Anyway hope this helps

Try as i might i can't get it to work what am i doing wrong???
I've downloaded the BeShare zip file from bebits.com, extracted the contents and double clicked on the BeShare.x86 icon to run i then get the entry for BeShare in the tracker menu, no windows are created and the only tracker option is to quit application (No Windows is also shown). On selecting quit application again i get nothing the icon stays there only a CTRL-ALT-DEL and killing the application will remove BeShare.x86
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
