heh Yes experimenting is fun. I find it rather funny how so many of us can have so many crazy results & diferances of success ith certain things in Be. I think alot of why Be has so much charicter from system to system is it's need to things to "Work" by this I mean windows will run on trashed junk hardware that is failing till it fails. With Be somthing a bit out of whack & your going to know it. I.e. Overclocking on most peoples systems will cause probs (I have successfully made Be stable on a REALLY OC'd dual box) So if somthing is dying you are a bit more suspect to a hardware issue going right down to Bios settings affecting the hardware. PPC is somewhat abstract in this situation due to the hardware being so much more regulated but there are allways anomalies. FUN FUN Be runs flawlessly on all my systems but ONE... the fun thing... it is virtually identical to another system I have that runs Be Great! Same mobo (one revision back) same type of cpu. Same ram - Same power supply & chasis. There isnt a whole lot differant between the machines. I have swapped thigns out to try to rule out certain hardware but to no avail. New ram changes nothing - one stick of ram changes nothing so the many sticks of ram arent confliting... I've even tried new power supply... nope... Sadly this makes me think an electrical surge has done somthing nasty to my mobo heh. This "Theory" along with a bad experiance makes me say hmm... I won't be buying APC UPS's anymore...

Jess - Definitely something to try. The net_restart binary seems to work fine. When I use the BeTips (S. Hacker) method of restarting the input server, though, I get unpredictable results. It seems that something else is causing the input server to get "stoned" and if that isn't reset also, the system can melt down or hang.

I have things set-up now to open a terminal in debug mode if anything craps out. Net_server is a regular "guest" in that window... Unfortunately, I have no idea whether net_server is grovelling due to bugs, or whether something else is doing the computer equivalent of "cow tipping". What the hell, experimentation is fun! I will try combining just input & net server resetting in a script and see how it goes.

hmm...

Well I'm not too framiliar with the PPC side fo things unless its still runing MacOS, but without the pleasure of see a PPC running Be it sounds like your net server is simply dying. Im most cases things seem to operate in a normal fashion but your shared files cant be seen or you can't be downloaded. This is a rather common symptom of net_server getting clogged up. I used to use BeReset but the newest version wasn't that good. I have since made scripts to reset servers & such that work great, but just to test things out I suggest getting Scott Hackers Net_restart. http://www.betips.net/software/net_restart.zip Give this a try when things seem to go wierd & toss BeReset aside for a bit. Write a script to do your input server restarts & what ever servers you want to restart but call the Net_restart binary for the net_server instead of "kill -9 net_server" & then restarting it. Somthing to try any way.

Weird happenings

First: I LOVE this app! I am happy to see the PPC versions keeping up with x86 ones. That said, there are some weird behaviors I am experiencing that may or may not be bugs.

#1: My connection dies (sort of). I can still see users & files, but nothing can be downloaded and no one can download from me. This usually takes many hours to crop up.

#2: When I use BeReset 1.5 to reset my servers (primarily the Input Server due to strangeness with my mouse), I am still able to see AND download files. I am not sure whether other users simply cannot download from me or whether they cannot see me at all. I'm 90% sure that 2.0.8 was able to survive BeReset.

Both of these issues are relatively minor, and will likely be fixed soon. I am curious whether anyone else, especially x86 users, have experienced them.

Total dissapointment...

Awesome ;-)

BeShare is obviously very well written. It operates perfectly, and appears to not take advantage of BeOS bugs. Meaning that it will work on the fixed versions of BeOS. Namely BONE versions and DANO. And it does so flawlessly.

If your new to BeOS, then you HAVE to have this!

This earns The loon's seal of approval!

It's great to see this superb app updated once again. BeShare has to be one of the most important apps for the BeOS community, keeping everyone in touch and allowing developers to get their software tested for bugs, etc. Keep up the excellent work Jeremy. ;o)

The Perfect Complement for BeOS

BeShare should be bundled with every BeOS PE download, as it encourages community and brings new users into the fold.
I'm very impressed at the stability of BeShare and the great UI flexability. Thanks Jeremy! And thanks LCS for keeping MUSCLE open and free (as in freedom).

Is there any way to make it connect to server through SSH tunel ?

Works flawless for me - and nothing but friendly BeOS users.

There could be a few little perks added; but, all the necessary functions are there and the program works. You can size the window to suit, and run it right along while you are surfing or doing mundane work. Keeps you in touch with Be users - no "regular" ICQ "crap"
Easy as pie to share files and to see what going on - THANKS, Jeremy
One program I can't do without!

Great app.

Usually I don't rate apps at 9 becuase they are so early in their development, but BeShare whether it is new or not is complete in the sense that without any added features it more than meets my needs and expectations. It's a great app and a great place to meet other BeOS users and get help, share files, or whatever.
