I do understand the desire to get the sources and to translate them by hand. But there are 2 problems with this:
1. It is terribly inefficient to do translations this way (there is the LocaleTracker for that, and it will probably be updated when 3.0 final is out (either by the Thomas Fiedler or by myself)).
2. I give out sources for full releases only and not for betas. The reason is simple: the code is mostly not cleaned up, ugly or plain wrong and I don't want to share it in this state.
The reason that there was no release in a long time is, that I am working full time since August and I simply hadn't that much spare time. There will probably be a new release (3.0 final with a few new features) in 2 weeks from now, since I'm having holidays.
If I don't release 3.0 final by then, I will at least share the sources and you may do whatever you want with it.

1) Tracker.NewFS rocks! Love the new filtering option, and all the other cool features it provides. Like how closely it ties to the old BeOS tracker as well (can only mount disks by right-clicking desktop...not in any window, etc).
When enabling the "Disks" icon on the desktop, no volumes are seen inside it. Hence, I must show all volumes on the desktop to be able to access them.
Creating folders seems to sometimes (randomly) crash, and I cant seem to recreate that with any accuracy. I've used chkbfs to ensure there is no filesystem corruption, and so far so good.
Keep up the great work!

Hi, Michael!
Just tried dockbert and it doesn't work.
when will be new Tracker.NewFS release?
Can't wait :-)
Check this link http://www.beos.spb.ru/program/86/ to try new NaviTracker. This is not the latest version (which support themes!!!) but try it anyway.
Thanks...

I prefer the standard tracker version of incremental search to the windows way (that mentioned in the previous post). Entering the letters of the file you require narrows the search down quicker than repeated presses of the first letter of the file name, it just takes a little getting used to. Mozilla searches use the same kind of search logic.

Hi, mmlr.
1. If you drag any file from search query search results to a disk volume on the Desktop, Tracker will prompt you to move that file, but wont copy it.
2. Enhance context search to be able to select next file in the following situation. Example: you have 3 files in the folder which filenames starts with "be(...)". Tracker should loop file selection every time you press "b" button.

When I want to move a file to my FAT32 partition to by BeOS (or vice versa) I get a Tracker Question prompt claiming that it can't do it and presents me with options. The most useful option is "Copy instead and delete the source."
Isn't that what "moving" a file across volumes is?

I was asked a few times about a setting like "hide all .* files" (I think POSIX does hide them by default). A setting to hide all those .* files wouldn't be a problem, but it would also be limited to this very pattern of file-naming. Therefore static filtering is a more "flexible" approach to solve this.
I'll have a look at AutoComplete, but it probably won't get into 3.0.
> 12.

It is a quite bit hard to do it... But I still don't see how it would make sense. Just to implement it that we have it, even if it's not useful, takes away much writing / testing time and would most probably decrease stability makes no sense to me. It may be implemented, but not in 3.0.

Yes I'm on it and allready removed various unneeded menus from different system folders.
> 6. Where is "Paste" menu gone? Only Desktop have this

On my system it is there. It is between two seperators in any windowcontextmenu. It should look exactly as it does on the desktop.
> 7. If you copy a file (Alt+C) and then use "Paste

Yes that's true. I'll try to fix it.
> 8. Volumes icons should have Paste menu.
Why? (Logic dictates...) The paste menu is in the context menu of a window, since the items in the clipboard will be pasted into the folder the window represents and not into a specific file or volume you clicked on.
> 9. Only folders and volumes should have Paste menu.
That's exactly how it is (at least on my system).
> 11. Selection issues...
I know...

Don't like this one. If you want to browse the filesystem: use tracker - if you want to browse the web: use a web browser. I don't think it's necessary to link the internet into everything.
> 16. I have this crash several times:
> loading symbols...
If you would provide some information when you got it and what you did before it happend, I meight be able to reproduce and fix it...
> I think that posting your TODO list on app page would
> be useful, so users will not ask you the same things

This would be a qutie long list then...
It may be anoying some times that people ask about the same thing over and over, but it also gives you an indication of how important some things are and where you should place them on the ToDo-List.
> Hmm why not begin to make cifs support?
Yes this is a filesystem add-on thing. Putting everything directly into the tracker kills the whole concept behind the filesystem add-ons I think.

True... Will be fixed.
> 18. There is no need to hold Shift key and press on

A the "Win"-key thing. The win-key is not really supported by BeOS is it? It was transformed into an option key yes, but it is not used generally I think. There are also some people that do not have a win-key at all and I don't think they would be happy if we started mapping things to it.
> 19. Add an option to resume copy if file already

Don't tell me you have to few options in the dialog window that pops up in that case...
> 20. Add an option to dialog window if user has
> accidentally pressed Stop button during copy to
> resume coping.
Well... I personally think it may be anoying to have to redo a copy if you "accidentally pressed Stop button", but I also think it would be far more anoying to always have to double confirm everything you do (you know how it is in windows: Select some files -> Press Delete -> "Are you sure to..." - of course I'm sure - I wouldn't press delete if I wasn't, would I? And even if I pressed del and was not so sure about it, I could still restore the file from trash).
> 21. Loading of content of folder that is situated on

As you pointed out, most things on fat take a long time and I think it is a filesystem add-on problem not a tracker bug.

True...
> 25. Click on icon of any file, then press Shift, go

I think this is the same thing that happens if you select a file by right click and it only gets selected partially. I'm still not able to fix it, but I'll try.

I know, but I was not able to trace this so far.

It would certainly be possible, but should we really begin to copy windows in such things? I actually like it better the way it is now.
> 35. Add an option to use smooth scrolling in
> Tracker's windows.
What exactly do you imaging?
> Had this crash several times already.
> loading symbols...
Again, if you don't provide any steps to reproduce it I will most probably not be able to fix it.
> I wonder if anybody reads my posts.
I do, but I was a bit busy this week and didn't have time to write back until now.
> This project really needs a bug tracking system
Yes, but:
1. You could send me bug reports / feature requests per mail. As stated above, doubled requests can help to prioritize.
2. The Tracker.NewFS has a quite uncertain future. On the one side there is OpenTracker that will be released in some weeks and then begin to implement NewFS features into it's own codebase - why a NewFS fork if the features are in OT?
And on the other side there is NaviTracker, which is a bit of a sucessor of NewFS and may replace it in the future.
Because of this situation I don't want to invest that much time in the whole "infrastructure" of Tracker.NewFS until it's future is clear.
> new tracker does not show any files in his windows -
> they all stay empty !
It is possible that this happens because of static filtering and wehn there where never any filters added before. Adding a static filter once and removeing it again or simply turning of static filtering could help in this case.
Restoring the Tracker:
Yes the backups of the original Tracker stay after the installation and they are named "* old". So
mv /boot/beos/system/Tracker old /boot/beos/system/Tracker
mv /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.so old /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.so
mv /boot/beos/system/Deskbar old /boot/beos/system/Deskbar
should work, yes (note that there is no . between the filename and the "old").
> For some reason, recent NewFS versions hide the
> Desktop folder
I was not able to reproduce this. Does it hide it in the home dir? It should be hidden in filepanels when "Desktop is File Panel Rooot" is enabled.
> 1. WIN key+click(Enter) on link should open a folder
> with link target and select it.
Maybe implemented, yes. But not with that win-key, you know.
> 2. Settings menu in file open dialog doesn't work.
Yes, it shouldn't be there anyway, will be removed.
> 3. Add Refresh option to Edit menu in file open
> dialog.
The refresh thing:
As requested and noted several times I implemented it. I didn't really think much about it and it was a quite easy thing to do.
I was a bit surprised as I received an e-mail about it from Simon Gauvin (beunited) in which he disagreed completely with the refresh option and urged me to remove it. He (correctly) stated that it is not really the right way to go: A refresh item is only needed if something goes wrong and if so, the bug causing it should be fixed instead of putting a refresh item to "work arround it". He is completely right with that, but we also discussed about situations where a refresh item is needed because the tracker cannot know about changes and it is not a tracker bug to not-refresh then (some network shares for example). So the future of this Refresh item is not clear at this time. It may be included on some filesystems, but it may also be removed completely - this is to be decided some time soon.
> 10. Add an option to sort always by type.
How exactly do you mean that?
> 12. Try to insert "anythingyouwant" in locationbar
> and press enter and tracker will always open first
> item in the folder.
Yes, this is normal. It is to assist with dynamic filtering. I don't think it is much of a problem, even if not using dynamic filtering. The first item may be exactly what you want or it may be the only item in the folder anyway so hitting enter saves you the double-click on it. If the first item is not the one you wanted you will still have to double-click. So it will reduces mouse usage or at least not increase it.
> loading symbols...
You know, the steps to reproduce...
> mmlr, please respond to my posts and tell us when
> will be new version and what will be included to it.
Here it is. Most of the things not mentioned here have silently gone to my ToDo-List, are allready fixed in my WIP-version, are irrelevant or I don't have a good answer to give at this time - so please don't ask "hey what about number xy and yz?".

1. WIN key+click(Enter) on link should open a folder with link target and select it.
2. Settings menu in file open dialog doesn't work.
3. Add Refresh option to Edit menu in file open dialog.
4. After pressing Home or End buttons you are not able to edit filename of first or last item using Alt+E shortcut.
5. When you do Alt+up arrow in the folder on the Desktop, folder will not be selected.
6. When you do Alt+R in folders with vertical scrollbar, scrollbar will disappear.
7. Add Refresh shortcut to Info windows.
8. Add Identify shortcut to Info windows.
9. Configurable delay of Tracker Status window.
10. Add an option to sort always by type.
11. Remove unnecessary update when pressing Alt+h shortcut, but you are already in the home directory.
12. Try to insert "anythingyouwant" in locationbar and press enter and tracker will always open first item in the folder.

Luckily it is still browseable.
To reproduce, open /boot/home and see that the Desktop is missing. Then add "Desktop" at the and of the address-bar and press enter -> it's there. Odd.
Other than this one, and what Diver has already mentioned, this is a fine release. Thumbs up mmlr.
BTW, have you given any thought about using a bug tracker system? if it's too difficult to setup, then we can use Bebit's Wiki in the meanwhile, it would surely be more effective than this Talkback page.

I don't know if there's a script that does it, but the following worked for me:
Open the Terminal
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Team Monitor
Kill both Tracker and Deskbar
In the Terminal, type the following commands:
mv /boot/beos/system/Tracker /boot/beos/system/TrackerOLDFS
mv /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.so /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.soOLDFS
mv /boot/beos/system/Deskbar /boot/beos/system/DeskbarOLDFS
mv /boot/beos/system/Tracker.old /boot/beos/system/Tracker
mv /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.so.old /boot/beos/system/lib/libtracker.so
mv /boot/beos/system/Deskbar.old /boot/beos/system/Deskbar
In the Team Monitor, click "Restart the Desktop". This should retore the original Tracker.

Hi, mmlr.
1. Context menu of "Disks" icon should not contain usual file operation commands. Also remove Edit name, Duplicate, Move to Trash, Identify and Add-ons menus.'
2. Try to switch several times "Show Disks Icon" and "Show Volumes On Desktop" options in Tracker Settings window and you will see that when switching back to "Show Volumes On Desktop" volumes icons are not lined up as it was before (you need to have 2 volumes, maybe more).
3. Open "Disks" icon, then right click to show context menu in that folder, and you will see not needed separator under Add-ons option.
4. If "Show Disks Icon" is used, you can see mount menu inside Disks folder this is ok, but if you switch to "Show Volumes On Desktop" and manually go to "/" folder there will be no Mount menu.
5. All not boot partitions have "Unmount and Eject" menu. I think that only CD partitions needs to have this menu.
6. Where is "Paste" menu gone? Only Desktop has this menu now!
7. If you copy a file (Alt+C) and then use "Paste links" menu on the Desktop Tracker will move that file instead of creating link.
8. Volumes icons should have Paste menu.
9. Make wheel mouse button to scroll horizontal scrollbar if there is no vertical scrollbar. In addition, make an option to use shift+wheel button to scroll horizontal scrollbar even if vertical scrollbar exist.
10. "/" folder forgot view settings.
11. Selection issues...
a) How to make icon text grayed out?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, set background image to any folder, turn off "Mask icon text background", set Icon view, Select all, and then click anywhere out of that folder -> and you will see that icon titles are grayed out.
b) How to get fun?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, set background image to any folder, turn off "Mask icon text background", set Icon view, open Tracker Settings->Window, do Select all in that folder with background image, and then turn "Show Selection When Inactive" off -> all icon titles are disappeared.
c) How to get flickers?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, open folder in Icon view with about 100 items (for more effect), Select all, and then click anywhere out of that folder -> and you will see flickers.
12. If you open /boot/home/Desktop folder you will notice that Trash folder have all those options of context menu that it shouldn't have. You can see all same dangerous options when using file open dialog.
13. In File open dialog add Alt+left arrow and Alt+Right arrow to navigate through recent folders like in usual folder.
14. If user typed in locationbar address that is started with http:// then open default browser with that address.
15. Shift+click on Add-on option from context menu opens new instance of /boot/beos/system/add-ons/Tracker/ folder.
17. Dynamic filtering doesn't respect Alt+up arrow. Example: open "/boot/beos/" folder add everything you want to lacationbar string (e.g. smth like this: "/boot/beos/qwerty" and then press Alt+up arrow shortcut and you will see this text in locationbar "/boot/qwerty"
18. There is no need to hold Shift key and press on the upper item to open a folder in new instance since you already may do this if you hold WIN key during clicking on the folder in.
19. Add an option to resume copy if file already exist.
20. Add an option to dialog window if user has accidentally pressed Stop button during copy to resume coping.
21. Loading of content of folder that is situated on FAT partitions with large size (e.g. folder with lots of movies) takes a long time.
22. Add a feature to the Favorites menu, so if shift key was pressed while clicking on an item of favorites menu - open folder in new instance.
23. When switching Enable Dynamic Filtering option unneeded folder is occurred.
24. Cut more and Copy more doesn't work when using Shift+Alt+X and Shift+Alt+C shortcuts.
25. Click on icon of any file, then press Shift, go to context menu and press Cut more and you will see a drawing bug, when icon becomes shadowed partially.
26. In file open dialog press Alt+X on any file you will see that this file, file icon and it attributes will not become shadowed immediately, but only after some movement.
27. If in file open dialog you press Alt+X on any file and then press Alt+C on another file - 1st cuted file doesn't became unshadowed as it should to be.
28. Disable Alt+1/2/3 shortcuts in /boot/home/Desktop/ folder to save icons from loosing order.
29. Clean up doesn't need in file open dialog.
30. Disable Move to and Move to Trash options in context menu of /boot/home/Desktop/ folder. Same goes to several system folders.
31. Recent Documents doesn't work in Favorites menu.
32. Is it possible to make two or more panels if context menu of folder content doesn?t fit in single panel? I mean to do it like in Windows 95 Start menu.
33. How about adding sorting feature to Configure Favorites window, to sort favorites folders? Maybe be adding special attribute to that folders, but it will not work with any folders which are situated on different partitions from BFS.
34. Unhide cursor if user pressed Enter or Escape button after editing filename.
35. Add an option to use smooth scrolling in Tracker's windows.
Had this crash several times already.

Hmm why not begin to make cifs support?

I have been looking on the CIFS protocol and it would be nice to have that. I know its more of a Filesystemaddon than its a Tracker thing but it would be nice.

In this release home/end buttons doesn't work if all files are selected.
Also try new NaviTracker (it have some speed issues which wasn't there in previous version)

4. If "Show Disks Icon" is used, you can see mount menu inside Disks folder this is ok, but if you switch to "Show Volumes On Desktop" and manually go to "/" folder ther will be no Mount menu.
5. All not boot partitions have "Unmount and Eject" menu. I think that only CD partitions needs to have this menu.
6. Where is "Paste" menu gone? Only Desktop have this menu now!
7. If you copy a file (Alt+C) and then use "Paste links" menu on the Desktop Tracker will move that file instead of creating link.
8. Volumes icons should have Paste menu.
9. Only folders and volumes should have Paste menu.
10. "/" folder forgots view settings.
11. Selection issues...
a) How to make icon text grayed out?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, set background image to any folder, turn off "Mask icon text bacground" ,set Icon view, Select all, and then click anywhere out of that folder -> and you will see that icon titles are grayed out.
b) How to get fun?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, set background image to any folder, turn off "Mask icon text bacground", set Icon view, open Tracker Settings->Window, do Select all in that folder with bacground image, and then turn "Show Selection When Inactive" off -> all icon titles are dissappeared.
c) How to get flickers?
Turn "Show Selection When Inactive" to on, open folder in Icon view with about 100 items (for more effect), Select all, and then click anywhere out of that folder -> and you will see flickers.
12. If you open /boot/home/Desktop folder you will notice that Trash folder have all those options of context menu that it shouldn't have.
13. In File open dialog add Alt+left arrow and Alt+Right arrow to navigate through recent folders like in usual folder.
14. If user typed in locationbar address which is started with http:// then open default browser with that address.
15. Shift+click on add-on option from context menu opens new instance of /boot/beos/system/add-ons/Tracker/ folder.

mmlr, thanks for your answers to previous post.
1. Open /boot folder, in Location bar you will see "/boot/", then try to change path to, for example, "/bootq" and press enter and it will always open first item in the current folder (/boot/apps folder in this case).
2. Open /boot folder, press Alt+up arrow, press Alt+left arrow... Now you can't press Alt+up arrow again... This is a bug related to doubling window Tracker's bug.
3. Tab button should toggle between Navigation bar, address bar and folder content.
4. Dynamic Filtering is a great and useful thing, but i don't understand Static Filtering, where could it be useful? I will really like to see an option to switch between Filtering and AutoComplete feature for those who prefer AutoComplete more. I think this will be not too hard to implement since AutoComplete class is already written in Snap (http://www.bebits.com/app/3059) app. Please add it.
5. There is no need to refresh folders and Desktop when you turning "Enable Static Filtering" on, but no filters are exist yet.
6. Right click in Location bar should popup menu with history.
7. Shift+Home/End should select all files from current selected one to first/last item. This is already done in patch by Technix, that i sent you recently. Please merge it.
8. If you select all (Alt+A), then pressing End button doesn't do anything, but, in the same time, Home button still works (select first item in the folder). It must be a bug in Technix patch.
9. Press several times quickly Home and End buttons in the folder with about 10 objects and you will notice flickers. Seems to be another bug in that patch. Is it possible to fix it?
10.

Yeah, but there is a room to add one more menu to menubar, so, if you don't mind, add it. Or at least make it as an option.

Settings checkbox will be even better. Nice feature, btw.
12.

If it will be not too hard, I'd like to see working filtering in all Views.
13.

No, this is a bug in all trackers. I think that Tracker trying to read extended bfs attributes from objects in the FAT partition and this is a reason of such delays.
It's about 20 seconds to show all 100 objects i have in the root of FAT partition. Imagine if you will open a folder with 1000 or even more objects inside. This is definitely not good :(
14.

That is almost the same thing, but I'd really like to see this as an option in the Disk Mount Settings window, so please merge with latest opentracker files from CVS.
15.
>> Add shortcut to Identify menu (WIN+I).
> WIN? Ctrl/Alt-shift?
Ctrl+I will be good too.
16. Alt+R as refresh shortcut like in NetPositive.
17. Is it possible to show number of objects inside a folder it the size attribute of that folder instead of "-". Like it did in SVG Tracker?
18. When folder is sorted by "Kind" sort folders first.
19. When you perform context search, tracker will first look at files, but not at folders as it should.
20. Is it possible to add wwwwwsearch on non bfs partition to Tracker?
21. And again, please work on icon text warping and more intelligent Clean Up icons code. This IS must have features.
You already did amazing work. I really appreciated for that. Thanks again.

As I was writing my reply, there were new comments I missed.
Just to reply to the those:
>> 1. Add shotrcuts Alt+1/2/3 to Desktop context menu too.
>I'm not sure if this is really needed. Do you ever use the other views when working view the Desktop directly (i.e. not in a window)?
That's also true.
>> 4. Add Add-ons menu, like Favorites.
> It's in the bottom of the File menu.
I think he meant add it as a seperate menu to be able to access it faster. The main reason why I don't like the idea is that the menubar is getting to overloaded. Since 2.9 there are allready two new menus "Edit" and "Favorites".
>> 6. Configurable Favorites menu for those who don't want to see Recent documents or folders in that menu, but only actual favorites folders.
>I'll second that request. The Deskbar already does this very well. Anyway, even if it's not configurable, the Recent Folders section should definitely be located above the Recent Documents section.
Would it be an option to simply hide Recent Folders / Documents at all in Tracker windows?
>> 12. Make shortcut to refresh Tracker window. This could be useful.
>Definitely. I nominate F5 for the shortcut ;-)
F buttons aren't really consistent with the rest of the Tracker shortcut's. But as you mentioned this is about cross-platform keyboard shortcuts.
> 1. Icon View and List View would be more convenient as CMD+1 and CMD+2 respectively (just like in OS X).
As I don't use OS X regularly, I didn't know about that. Maybe we could reach a convention here.
> 2. New setting for Rename/Edit-Name when using the mouse: BeOS/Mac uses a single click on the filename, Windows uses select then click - personally, I prefer the latter.
I think this is a thing to get used to. But it may be a new settings checkbox "Rename at first Click"?
> 3. CMD+Home (Alt+Home) for Home (as in most browsers)
I think this should be a shortcut to the "Home Button".
> 4. CMD+D or F6 to get to the address bar (as in Windows)
Yes, would make sense.
> 5. "Settings" should be moved from the Window menu to the Edit menu, as they are not only relevant to windows. Both Net+ and BeMail choose the File menu for "Preferences" and it seems like a natural and consistent place for Tracker Settings too.
Yes, you're completely right. Actually Technix did it that way in his patch and I ignored it - sorry.
> 6. If possible, contact the author of CIFS-Mounter (http://www.bebits.com/app/2831) and integrate it into the Tracker. All other major file managers have graphic front ends for networking/file sharing, there's no reason why Tracker won't have one when BeOS supports it underneath the hood.
This would be more of an Add-On thing, but it could also be included into the Tracker directly, right.
Thank's again for the feedback and the nice words - makes me a bit more optimistic about the usefulness of my work.

"This is the Beta 1 of Tracker.NewFS 3.0. It's compiled for BeOS R5 and does not work on Dano."
This means, that this variation does not work on Dano. It does not mean the upcoming release 3.0 will not support Dano. As the only Dano box I have access to is at work, I am not able to make a Dano build from home, therefore Dano builds are always a few days behind.
Since there are quite some bugs left in the beta 1, I think I will not make a Dano build of the beta 1, but beta 2 will probably have a Dano build.
To the bugs:
> 1. Filtering is only works in List view.
I know, this is normal. I don't really see how filtering would be useful outside of listview, but if you have a good reason why it should work in iconmode...
> 2. When filtering, tracker sometimes selects first item of a folder.
It should do this as soon as you hit enter after typing in the LocationBar to autoopen the first item. If it does this without hitting enter, please post how to reproduce it.
> 3. Add Current folder in Favorites menu doesn't work.
That's true, my fault.
> 4. If you will open FAT partition in List view and then select Icon View there will be no delay, but if you first go to "/" folder, select Icon View and open FAT partition again you will notice huge delays in displaing partition's root content.
Those delays are normal while refreshing a folder (and they are bigger on fat disks because of the fat filesystem). When you switch from one viewmode to another it doesn't always make a full refresh and thus is faster, but when you switch a folder it always refreshs and this gives a delay. Could you please state how "huge" they are and if they don't occure with different versions/forks of the Tracker?
>5. Scroll by mouse wheel doesn't work during selection.
I know. I'll have a look at it, but since scrolling with the mouse wheel is not very precise, it could also degrade usability when enabled while selecting.
> Search doesn't work in this release :(
It does actually. You just don't see any results because of a bug I was able to fix last night ;). You can still view your results by rightclicking and using the navigation item.
To the features:
> 1. Add shotrcuts Alt+1/2/3 to Desktop context menu too.
Ok.
2. Merge with Technix "Unmount and eject" patch from opentracker.
I don't know Technix' patch, but it seems to be quite the same thing I implemented too. If you rightclick on a mounted volume it will show "Unmount & Eject" - if you hold down shift while rightclicking it will show "Unmount" only and will do just that.
3. Shift+Home/End doesn't work.
What exactly should happen if Shift+Home/End is pressed? I had two different patches for Home/End handling - seems that I took the wrong one.
4. Add Add-ons menu, like Favorites.
This menubar gets larger and larger...
5. Merge with NaviTracker :) You already know about that.
As mentioned: I contacted the developer and asked him to share sources and work togheter. He did not responde so far. And I will not simply steal from his code.
6. Configurable Favorits menu for those who don't want to see Recent documents or folders in that menu, but only actual favorites folders.
Yes, this will probably be implemented.
7. Add shortcut to "Settings..." menu in Desktop context menu.
You don't really use it that often to need a shortcut for it, do you?
8. Show context menu at first click. This is just to not let you forget about it :)
I'm on it, but it seems not quite as easy as it sounds.
9. Make menu stickable when selecting attributes from columns context menu.
Ok.
10. Add "Free" attribute to the "Disks" and "/" folder.
Maybe...
11. Add shortcut to Identify menu (WIN+I).
WIN? Ctrl/Alt-shift?
12. Make shortcut to refresh Tracker window. This could be useful.
Yes, possibly.
13. "Clean Up" menu don't need in List View.
That's true.
14. Clicking in "Add-Ons" option in the context menu shoul open /boot/beos/system/add-ons/Tracker if right clicked and /boot/home/config/add-ons/Tracker if left clicked and open both folders if both buttons are pressed.
Should be possible.
Thank's for the feedback so far, a new Beta will be out as soon as I get some more fixes/features done.

...and it wouldn't hurt to use "Please" and "Thank you" now and then.
Ok, now that I'm done with this , let's get back to what becomes the finest file manager on any platform. NewFS now has features that are due in Panther (OS X 10.3) and it already has a mix of features not found on any file manager. Kudos for a job well done, mmlr :-)
Diver,
> 3. Add Current folder in Favorites menu doesn't work.
Same here. In the meanwhile I use the Configure Favorites menu.
> 1. Add shotrcuts Alt+1/2/3 to Desktop context menu too.
I'm not sure if this is really needed. Do you ever use the other views when working view the Desktop directly (i.e. not in a window)?
> 4. Add Add-ons menu, like Favorites.
It's in the bottom of the File menu.
> 6. Configurable Favorites menu for those who don't want to see Recent documents or folders in that menu, but only actual favorites folders.
I'll second that request. The Deskbar already does this very well. Anyway, even if it's not configurable, the Recent Folders section should definitely be located above the Recent Documents section.
> 7. Add shortcut to "Settings..." menu in Desktop context menu.
You can use Cmd+Esc -> W -> E
> 10. Add "Free" attribute to the "Disks" and "/" folder.
If it's not too much trouble, "Total size" and "File System" could also be useful.
> 12. Make shortcut to refresh Tracker window. This could be useful.
Definitely. I nominate F5 for the shortcut ;-)
> 13. "Clean Up" menu don't need in List View.
It's there and grayed-out, just like it should be ,IMO.
Now to a few of my own suggestions:
1. Icon View and List View would be more convenient as CMD+1 and CMD+2 respectively (just like in OS X). I'm working on both Mac and BeOS and I use CMD+2 on the Mac frequently to switch the Finder to List View. Cross-platform keyboard conventions are hard to set, but there is no reason to be inconsistent with stuff that has already been properly implemented elsewhere.
2. New setting for Rename/Edit-Name when using the mouse: BeOS/Mac uses a single click on the filename, Windows uses select then click - personally, I prefer the latter.
3. CMD+Home (Alt+Home) for Home (as in most browsers)
4. CMD+D or F6 to get to the address bar (as in Windows)
5. "Settings" should be moved from the Window menu to the Edit menu, as they are not only relevant to windows. Both Net+ and BeMail choose the File menu for "Preferences" and it seems like a natural and consistent place for Tracker Settings too.
6. If possible, contact the author of CIFS-Mounter (http://www.bebits.com/app/2831) and integrate it into the Tracker. All other major file managers have graphic front ends for networking/file sharing, there's no reason why Tracker won't have one when BeOS supports it underneath the hood.
Keep up the great work,
Prog.

Hi, mmlr.
Bugs:
1. Filtering is only works in List view.
2. When filtering, tracker sometimes selects first item of a folder.
3. Add Current folder in Favorites menu doesn't work.
4. If you will open FAT partition in List view and then select Icon View there will be no delay, but if you first go to "/" folder, select Icon View and open FAT partition again you will notice huge delays in displaing partition's root content.
5. Scroll by mouse wheel doesn't work during selection.
features request:
1. Add shotrcuts Alt+1/2/3 to Desktop context menu too.
2. Merge with Technix "Unmount and eject" patch from opentracker.
3. Shift+Home/End doesn't work.
4. Add Add-ons menu, like Favorites.
5. Merge with NaviTracker :) You already know about that.

For some reason, when I'm dragging files / folders to another window or wherever, if I drag them over another file / folder, it gets selected too.
Another thing - Tracker status window takes a long time to appear, is this by default?

Can you make the option _delete_ preselected when pressed on shift+del, so that grabbing the mouse is not necessary. I know that the dialog box remembers the first choice for the session but preselecting _delete_ in the first operation wouldn't hurt.
Thanks...

1) Mount an NTFS partition
2) Open it in a Tracker.NewFS window
3) Unmount the partition
4) Welcome to KDL, thread: DirPoller, team: /boot/beos/system/Tracker

A feature that would make day-to-day file managment much more convenient is a Favorites menu. Now, /boot/home/config/settings/Tracker/Go already stores this data, so it would be nice if Tracker used this folder for more than common file-dialogs.
Thanks,
Prog.

Feature: since you always have an instance of the desktop folder open (the desktop itself) this behaviour "reduces keyboard usage".
> Would it be possible to show context menu at first click?
I'll try. I actually didn't notice this until your post.
> Has anyone else running 5.3pro experienced folder Icons changing.
This can occure sometimes (especially when first installing), but shouldn't be permanent. This would be a error in the IconCache of the tracker and should not happen very often (tell me if it does).
If you meant the tracker provided icons (like trash- or system foldericons), this would be possible if the dockbert version you installed before provides a libtracker with a different iconset (I didn't check that, but it is fairly possible). Dockbert is not compatible with the 2.9 Tracker.NewFS (due to some missing functions in the NewFS libtracker), but in the version I am developing at these functions are implemented and dockbert runs fine.
This new version will have some other goodies:
- incremental filtering in folders using the location bar (/boot/mp3s/*sometitle would filter out anything not matching this expression) like seen in iTunes, the new Finder and probably Windows Longhorn.
- the above also makes "locationbar-auto-complete" unnecessary because it will filter anything not matching out while you're typing (you are in /boot/home and type "de" into the locationbar - only the Desktop folder remains and is opened when you hit return)
- reduced Tracker size: Currently the libtracker and the Tracker application are mostly duplicates of eachother and have all functions built in. In the new versions the Tracker will simply be linked to the libtracker and only provide the "main" function. (this reduces download size to about 1mb instead of almost 2)
- static filters configureable in the settings (filtering all .* files for example)
- the usual fixes as soon as they occure / I can fix them.
There will be a alpha version of it available soon.

Has anyone else running 5.3pro experienced folder Icons changing. Is this a memory leak (bug). I only noticed after installing the tracker.newfs. Does this in anyway interfere with Dockbert (v.??? the one listed on bebits) I went and restored the latest open tracker to see if continues.
Thanks,

If you select "Desktop" from the Desktop context menu, Desktop will open in new instance without having to hold down Shift. A bug or a feature?
Would it be possible to show context menu at first click? For example if you right click Trash icon on the Desktop it will show context menu, but if then you will right click on the home icon context menu will not appear until you right click it again. This will be cool and it will reduce mouse usage :)
Could you please add some shortcut to show context menu of selected object? Something similar to Shift+F10 in Windows Explorer?
