Just when I was going to switch back to OpenTracker you update. Grr... :)
Great work.
Btw, you might want to add an 'Please close other programs (who uses libtracker.so)' while installing. Tracker never starts for me otherwise ( probably because MozillaFirebird links against libtracker)

Sorry, my fault. I had some different libtracker's laying arround at home and mistakenly used the OT one without my knowledge. Therefore I couldn't reproduce that BeIDE missing symbol. I have included new compatibility functions into the NewFS libtracker and will made an updated package this evening or tomorrow.

If i try to rename a file with a name of an existing file in the same folder, tnfs shows up a message (it seems to be the same in the original tracker) tellin' me that there is a file with the same name.
If i confirm "Replace the other file", tnfs'll do nothing.

When a file is marked it should use "copy file".
But while you are in "editing filename mode" it should copy the marked part of the filename and NOT leave edit mode.
I'd love to see this fixed cause it is one of the more annoying things.
Also the FilePanel opens on Desktop but doesn't show everything until you click Desktop second time..

The copy shortcut triggers the file-copy not the selected-text-copy, but I think this was never different. This is true for the addressbar, too. I'll have a look at that, maybe I can add a check for that.

Michael, it seems hat with NewFS i can't no longer copy filename anymore. I mean when you press Alt+E to edit name of some file and then you press Alt+C filename or selected part of it just doesn't get to clipboard and file loose editable state. Please fix it!
Thanks.

Can't really reproduce that, could you list the missing symbole(s) here? And could you tell me when it happens (open/save, loading, compiling ...)?
The two libtracker's (OT and NewFS) should be mostly compatible and the libtracker should be the only thing that affectes other programs than the Tracker and Deskbar (correct me if I'm wrong here).

The R5 Package had a wrong path set (/boot/system/lib instead of /boot/beos/system/lib) and caused those missing symbol errors. I have redone the Package for R5 and made a Dano version too. Since there is everything included now (Deskbar and libtracker) and at the right place (;-)) it should be working and safe.
However I rewrote the installation scripts: Now the original files are backuped first and after the installation you're aked if everything works (Tracker and Deskbar starts) - if not (Crash, nothing happens, the Deskbar doesn't load ...) you can hit the 'Restore' button and it will restore and start your old Tracker, libtracker and Deskbar.
@Diver
Your features are in my ToDo list. Sorry to not include it by now. But they are more difficult than the 'light' changes in this version and need more time (writing, integrating and testing completly new features takes far more time than slightly change the existing code).
I'm always open for feature requests, but I can't guarantee to include anything.

The release marked as Dano: Tracker crashed instantly and Deskbar a little later, which made restore really difficult for me. From the layman to the professional: would it be possible to include something in the package that places a 'restore Tracker' script in /boot/home/config/bin that restores the previous version and rename the previous version in Tracker-old (or similar) before overwriting Tracker with the new version, so to restore from the command line if things go terribly wrong ? (user-error, mainly)
DIY and Safe Computing measures are the obvious options, of course, no doubt.
Keep up the good job and thanks for your terrific work.
Best

The one at BeZip.de and the R5 here is really the R5 compile. I compiled the 2.7 Dano version on a fairly plain Dano, that may have given some strange problems. I will be able to recheck that next week.

IMHO, the one that you call the Dano compile is actually R5, and the R5 compile on Bezips looks very much like Dano.
I could be all wrong, but please check!

I was wondering what OT version should be installed when using NewFS (since it doesn't include it), because I've tried a few ones and it doesn't seem to work correctly, folders don't get sorted first and it doesn't remember recent folders in "favorites" like it used to...
What OT Version are you using?
(btw, I'd rather have the libraries and deskbar bundled...)

Zeta has far better file handling. Some thingd still need to be addressed, but I think it is faster than even the latest NewFS (or a least feals that way).
Zeta will run most R5 apps, including OpenTracker/Deskbar. And it will run most, if not all, BONE apps and Dano apps.

I contacted YellowTab about this topic some time ago, no response so far.
I would like to port all those NewFS features to OT and / or to the SVG Tracker of Zeta and stop the Tracker.NewFS at some point in the future. More the features than the NewFS stuff because Zeta won't need / accept it anyway.
The reason for this is simple: Having four different Trackers, where the one lacks this and the other that feature, isn't a good thing. Thats why I think it's more reasonable to implement the features of the Tracker.NewFS in another Tracker project and go on with this togheter.

I replaced the tracker in PE MaxEdition with Tracker.NewFS v2.7 and I am very pleased. I was getting quite a bit of instability before like tracker refusing to shutdown during a system shutdown or restart. This is all been fixed. Thanks, I hope Tracker NewFS becomes a major part of OT.

I guess this is a kind of useless bug in many eyes but when trying to delete the swap files and choosing "skip this entry" and clicking the "Don't ask again for this session" box the deleting will continue forever ticking back and forward and the delete files / of files will start to screw up.
I don't know if this is a tracker issue or only a tracker.newfs issue :)
