The warning was:
"This Package does not include the Deskbar nor the libtracker.so! It's a good idea to install a current OpenTracker version first and this package after, so you have a recent Deskbar and the Tracker.NewFS"
It works here with the most recent OT libtracker.so and Deskbar.

no joy for me with OT-NFS or plain old opentracker. the installation goes okay and the toggles i make in the trackersettings file save, but none of these changes are actually affected after restarting tracker, the deskbar or the computer itself. try as i might, single window browsing doesn't work =|
at least i get the new be menu format (24 hour clock, sort apps, et cetera).
am i missing something?

I'd love to see the features (and speed) from Tracker.NewFS adopted by the opentracker team.
You did some great work, it's a shame to see your work end.
Regards,
Tony

| Tracker.NewFS is my first choice for a replacement tracker as well. |

Your work was far from useless.
In fact, I suspect that many developers that do not "see" widespread adoption of their work assume their work to be useless. But
a) how many people use someone else's work without telling the author about it - quite a lot. It's not about being rude, it's just a time/priority thing.
b) Even if only 1 person adopts the author's work and sees real benefits from using that work, isn't that enough? If I could make one person's life better by some program I write, I would be really pleased. We can't all write the killer app that everyone wants, but we can work to help eachother out never-the-less.
So, to wrap up, even if Tracker.NewFS is not adopted by the OpenTracker team, and even if you cannot work on updating it any longer, it has improved my use of Be, and probably many other peoples as well. Therefore, it has been anything but useless.
Thanks.

I know you went through a lot of stuff with the OT maintiners over NewFS, and it's sad that everybody couldn't come to an agreement that would get NewFS merged. I'm really glad you wrote it though, as I use and enjoy it every day. File handling under NewFS is definitely better and I wouldn't want to go back to plain OT.
So if you get a chance, a new version would totally rock. :-)

sorry guys, i don't even have beos anymore... :( if Pavel and the rest of the OT guys at Be were not that hurt due to the much better quality of newfs and it were merged with the main tracker then you all could have newfs with the new stuff. unfortunately i started to work, i have much less free time now that the university is over. and the worst of all is that now i see how much better an os could work then beos (or any other classic os of todays). i'm currently looking for a patched image that works on my Athlon XP, maybe i'll get the newest OT and merge it with newfs... we'll see.
thanks for the nice words, the only thing that makes me not to think that it was a totally useless work... :|

i'm happy to read the positive feedback, and that's why it's hard to say that i'm not using beos sice a year now. (sad story, but... for me beos is a well written windoze or linux killed by gates. but an os could be so much more!) so i'm sorry, but don't count on me... get in touch with Axel, the current maintainer of ot.
all the best,

Yeah, I also really liked all the extra stuff in opentracker- especially after the last time it got sync'd with the OT sources... A new version would be great............

please ... please re-write OpenTracker.NewFS so that it has the disk usage bars that the OT 5.15 has ... Lately OpenTracker.NewFS seems a little bare, and I think it has the potential to have everything that OT 5.15 has and still remain faster than OT 5.15 . If none of this can be done then at least make OT 5.15 work with BeTheme, and make it as fast as OpenTracker.NewFS .

I switched to the newfs version of tracker in hopes of escaping a stability issue I was having some time ago. While it didn't solve the problem, I fell in love with the better file handling functions of newfs, and am lothe to go back. The stability issues were eventually solved as the main tracker distro, followed shortly by newfs, went to 5.1b18. The main tracker distro is now at 5.1b19, and I'm looking forward to the newfs version of that.
