Title streaming
 By TommyB - Posted on February 3, 2004 - 19:13:00   (#10925)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.8.1
Can you enlighten me as to why I can't seem to stream the titles along with my stream. The only thing that comes up in either Soundplay or Winamp is the name of the address used to get the stream....e.g http://www.foo.bar:8000 /bla.ogg
What do i need to do to get the titles to appear. I don't imagine it's related to the encoder...FWIW...I am using OggEnc 1.0.

TIA

Saving Plugins configurations

I like to listen to music with the Loudness filter active. OTOH, when I listen to audio books, I prefer a setting with Equalizer and FreeVerb.
Changing between those settings takes some time, is boring and imagine more elaborate arrangements...

How about storing user configurations?
In the preference panel in the "Plugins" section could be a drop-down menu or something where you add and delete the current set of user settings of that section (Decoders, Filters, Visualization, General Purpose).
These user settings should be accessibale from a menu of SoundPlay's main window, probably with shortcuts.

Good idea?

Deskbar Button Behaviour
 By lichtgestalt - Posted on January 10, 2004 - 10:15:51   (#10468)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.8.1
Scenario: You have a playlist playing happily along. Now you stop it, because you feel like hearing something different. You know that you will come back later though and consequently drag the other music (playlist/folder) to play in parallel.
If you now use the Deskbar Button to zap to the next or previous songs, the stopped playlist will move along and starts playing, too.

IMO it'd more useful if only the currently playing list is affected and any stopped stream stays stopped (except when choosing "Play").

Maybe there could even be a parent menu with the open playlists and the commands in a submenu.

Thanks...

 By marcone - Posted on December 18, 2003 - 19:21:01   (#10033)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.8.1
This has nothing to do with that. If you don't have the mpeg1audio_fh.decoder installed, then you're likely using the ffmpeg-decoder, and so SoundPlay would be using that instead. However, the ffmpeg-decoder has a bug and will return an error when trying to configure its output format. Now SoundPlay simply ignores this error when it's generated by the ffmpeg decoder, as it appears to be a bogus error.

AAC format

Decode to file
 By lichtgestalt - Posted on December 7, 2003 - 20:11:26   (#9898)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.8
Are there plans to support piping songs through lame or gogo when "Decoding to file..."? I'd need some files other than then 128kbit/s, 44.1khz, stereo that the BeOS encoder provides and would love to do it in one step instead of re-processing with GoGo-Gadget or similar tools.

And: How about sorting the filters alphabetically. It's a mess... :)

Attributes with Ogg Vorbis..

..don't seem to work correctly. Most files work, some don't, they just show bitrate as 00 kbit and time something like -155:-5, for example.

I can't get version 4.8 to work :(

I only have one soundplay installed, I've run the install script, and yet when I run Soundplay it just dies, (I can see the entry add to the deskbar then its removed again.)

Didn't happen with 4.7.3

Any ideas?

What is it? How can I get it to work?

It's really nice to another update! Thanks Marco!

too slow

yes, it means precisely that. Oggenc is pretty slow, and to encode at higher bitrates you need a lot of horsepower.

What's with the OGG Warning

When I set OGG to stream at 128K Stereo, I get a message "Warning: Encoder Too Slow". Does this mean my processor is too slow?
If I set it back to 64K stereo, it doesn't say that. I am running an Athlon 1.3 Ghz.

zinf
 By marcone - Posted on November 5, 2003 - 20:55:23   (#9509)

Zinf seems to have problems with Ogg Vorbis streaming regardless of whether the server is SoundPlay/LiveEncoder or not. I tried playing some of the streams on http://dir.xiph.org with Zinf, and it would frequently abort with an "internal error occured"-message.

OK...ran the script...now it works. Thanks Marco !
One thing....it works with 2.91 of Winamp but not with Zinf. Zinf claims it can stream OGG, but it doesn't seem to work. Just an FYI to all.

Thank you

ogg streaming
 By marcone - Posted on November 5, 2003 - 00:49:10   (#9491)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.8
TommyB: the fact that you have 3 different ogg encoders listed in LiveEncoder tells me that you did not run the 'INSTALL' script after unzipping SoundPlay. Please run it. You should be using oggenc 1.0. In addition, most clients require that you append something like "bla.ogg" to the URL, i.e. "http://your.server.com:8000/bla.ogg", otherwise they won't know that they're going to receive an ogg stream. Also, I've found that WinAmp 3 is not able to stream ogg vorbis, so if you're trying to use that, consider using winamp 2.91 instead.

OK...started, but dead stream

Can't get OGG to stream

What version of OggEnc do I need, and where do I put it? I have 3 different Ogg's listed in Live
Encoder, but they all say "failed to start encoder". Lame works fine.
Any ideas?

Woohoo - Ogg Vorbis streams now work (the ones I tried always played silence in 4.7.2).

Great work Marcus.

I always hold soundplay up as a "model BeOS app" - small, simple interface, quick, responsive, yet actually surprisingly powerful.

Thanks a lot for your continued work on the app.

Simon

I purchased SoundPlay a year ago and was the best 12 dollars or so i've spent. ;-)

Not only does this program support many file types, but it comes with some pretty kewl geeo toys, visuals, http live encoder, supports winamp thems, loads in no time flat, and has an excellent replicient feature only for BeOS Baby !!!

Is it possible to stop SoundPlay from resetting the pitch to 100% after playing a file?
Is there any way to choose which soundcard to use in a multicard system?

Zenja: SoundPlay does in fact use file-attributes (it's an option in the preferences). I'm also curious how many files are in your playlist, and if you're sorting by name or path.

Thanks Diver!

You can use this set of scripts http://www.bebits.com/app/2043 to control SoundPlay via SpicyKeys, i this that this is exakly what you are searching for ;)

Only feature I miss in soundplay is something like clr for CL-Amp so you could control it with spicykeys. That way the multimedia keys on the keyboard can be made useful.

Playlist sort speed
 By zenja - Posted on June 19, 2003 - 02:21:40   (#7780)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.7.3
Hey Marco, any chance that you can improve the playlist editor. Its sorting algorithm is sadly slow, and the playlist doesn't make any use of BeOS attributes. In short, the whole playlist editor needs major redesign. I hear that Zeta will have a nifty iTunes knock off, specifiacally the playllist editor will make full use of BeFileSystem attributes. Maybe you can get in touch with the author and merge SoundPlay with that app, thus creating a very potent new Media player for BeOS/Zeta.

Cheers. Hope Palm is treating you well.

dj-features
 By dr_evil - Posted on June 18, 2003 - 19:54:50   (#7776)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.7.3
these features would be really nice:
- dj-mode (locks some controls, so i won't change the playing song by accident. "are you sure?"-questions for every action which a listener would notice)
- better crossfade (incl. silence-detection, because some songs have 10sec.s almost silence at the end/the beginning.)
- normalizer (make all songs more-or-less the equal volume)

but it's a great app anyway.

i saw a bunch of posts down below asking for an 'add-to-playlist' feature. none of the replies seem to hit the nail on the head... if you hold SHIFT while dropping tracks into soundplay, you will be adding them to the playlist. thats it.

Soundplay is a great player, works nice as a replicant. But the buttons and sliders doesn't look that good.

Always nice to have a great design on something you're using embedded into your desktop.

Any plans on redoing the graphics?

Playlist Sort abilities

I have a LOT of mp3's ogg's etc. that use BeOS attributes to keep track
of things like track number. Especially for "live" albums it is fairly
important to play the songs in the correct order. In the playlist
editor I don't see any way of sorting by a BeOS attribute. Is this
possible?
Would it be hard to implement?

Thanks for such a great product!

Audio CD support

Soundplay can only play a CD when it is mounted and it reads the files rather than controlling the drives player functions. My CD drive is _really_ loud and playing this way is ungood.
