WinAmp Skins

Does SoundPlay support WinAmp 3 skins?

Thanks.

ctrl + alt + shift right click
send to -> all workspaces

the only drawback is that if you quit and restart it'll be back to single workspace.

I would like to see an option for SoundPlay to be visible on all workspaces without having to use it as a replicant.

SoundPlay blocks while trying to connect, not redrawing its window. I know I can press the Cancel button, but it would look better if the interface didn't freeze like this.

Doesn't skip non-audio files

Even if I don't have the "Allow playing raw audio" option checked, it won't skip non-audio files in the playlist - it opens them and sets the Audio:xxx attributes to some strange values (it recognizes jpegs as mpegs but doesn't do anything with them - playback stops).
I use to have the covers of the albums in the same directory, and SoundPlay keeps trying to play them when I move the album folder to the playlist.

"Two words: "modular design". :)"
heh, but making it simple is more important than modularity. unnecessary modularity only complicates things.

BTW why You don't want it so much? all other players i've seen has similar option. and if You don't want it than why not cut out two other options and make plugins for them too :)

Input plugin troubled by media server restart ?

i am using the input plugin for testing my audio driver and i found that it doesn't handle the restart of the media server. In fact the play feature restarts well after the restart of the media server, but not the "record feature". Is this normal ?

The source for this plugin is not in the SoundPlay plugin development kit, so can't see what happens.
Very cool player :)

You can launch SoundPlay if it's not running (so something will happen :), or move to newly added song if it's already running.

Please, please, please :) It will be just one of the options, if someone will not like it doesn't have to use it.

adding to playlist

I added that feature once as a test, and found it to be very confusing (you doubleclick on a file, and nothing appears to happen). This is why SoundPlay comes with a Tracker add-on that allows you to do this explicitly. It's in the Extras/SoundPlayNQ folder.

Bug or feauture? Also small request :D

When main Sounplay window is minimized, and i close playlist window Soundplay quits.

Now request: Can You add option in settings to add new opened file to active playlist (if exists)? So when Soundplay is playing some list, and i doubleclick on mp3 in OpenTracker Soundplay will add it at the and of played list (and if i it's playing more than one "tracks" at the same time add it at the and of last trak's playlist).

THX in advance :)

I guess I'm looking for some way to add songs to a playlist automatically, when they drop into a folder. Maybe this is script territory - the mp3 files are being transferred over FTP to the (remote) BeOS box, then streamed out of SoundPlay over a small network.

I'm not ready to spring for TuneTracker just yet...;-)

Great app, 3 small bugs
 By StephenBNB - Posted on September 22, 2002 - 17:49:00   (#3238)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.7.2
SoundPlay is probably the app I use most in BeOS (whenever I'm at my
computer it's running) and by far my fav. audio player on any platform.
There are only 3 small bugs that keep it from being *perfect*.

The first is
that, when saving a playlist, SP will always re-size the save dialogue
making it too wide and too high. Screenshot: http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/stephenb/images/screenshots/sp_save.jpg

The second is that it doesn't
seem to save the position of individual playlist windows if you quit with
more than one playlist window open. For example, lets say I have my regular playlist open, and I decide I want to listen to a CD I've ripped, so I open up a new playlist window for that. If I quit SoundPlay with both playlists open, when I start SP again, both windows will be in the position of the second one. Screenshot before quitting: http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/stephenb/images/screenshots/sp_pl_before.jpg
Screenshot after starting it again: http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/stephenb/images/screenshots/sp_pl_after.jpg

The third problem I've had is that whenever I attempt to use the Audio Input plugin by adding either the url "input:" or "input://", SoundPlay crashes as soon as I try to play it. If it makes a difference, my sound card is an SoundBlaster PCI 512. Below is a stack crawl obtained after one such crash.

Double-clicking in the QING window is not going to work. If you click the "maximize" button in the window-tab, it should go fullscreen. If your videocard doesn't support fullscreen mode, it'll simply scale the window to fill the screen.

Qing resizable

Very happy with soundplay and it has to a large degree taken over the job of my stereo. One thing that would be nice however would be a resizable version of Qing/Fullscreen Qing. When I have soundplay running but not actually using the pc for anything else this would look quite nice.. Also is there anyway to arrange plugins to activate when soundplay starts up as a replicant.

"gapless output"
 By unlyrn. - Posted on May 6, 2002 - 07:52:19   (#1313)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.7.2
on a related note... it would nice to have a 'gapless' output mode; currently when a track finishes there is a slight gap (resulting in a click) before the next track is played - not what you want when listening to an album where the tracks blend into one another...

Silence between tracks
 By cadmeister - Posted on May 5, 2002 - 22:25:37   (#1310)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.7.2
I need a way to specify a 2 to 4 second silence between tracks during playback. Why? Because I use Minidisc as a portable format -- lots of music on a small card that neither takes up space when traveling, and doesn't cost a large chunk of change. The minidisc recorder needs a small amount of silence between songs to set track markers, otherwise I end up with a single 74 minute track and can't navigate on my portable device.

Is there anyway to do that in soundplay now? If not, it would be a nice feature to add- currently I end up using a playback app in windows that has that feature, Meracl MD Recorder, but would like to get out of windoze as much as possible

Great App!

Great job... I love the fact that SoundPlay is a replicant! In my opinion this is an very under used part of BeOS, and SoundPlay makes good use of this technology. It's great to always have an mp3 player open, but avoid the clutter of one more window. One point though... Does the equalizer work when SoundPlay is a replicant? I notice a great difference in my bass level when using the replicant.

LiveEncoder settings

thanks for the updates - soundplay is an excellent app.

here are a few features i would like to see in future versions :)

the live encoder prefs are saved if i exit soundplay but not if i exit just the encoder window and then activate it again

the new playlist editor: it would be nice if it would filter out non audio files, also a spot on the right hand side to drop new additions to the playlist that would be added at the bottom - otherwise you have to scroll down, add a few files, scroll down again, etc.

.shn support (encode/decode!)

...you could put these into v5 - i would gladly pay for a new keyfile ;)

Amazing program!

There is one detail in the app that may bug me a little: calculating lengths of files in the playlist is a bit too slow for my high-speed untamable search. But apart from this tiny detail, the app is not too cpu demending and its crossfade option which I discovered lately adds to the fun of listening to music with it.

Each time I show somebody BeOS, I GOTTA show them this application and each time they go: "Whoa! this is incredible!"
The plugins may seem unnecessary for certain people but may prove very useful for others.

these were necessary upgrades

esp. the saved live encoder preferences. that alone makes the update worth having, if you stream audio over the web. attribute, rather than file info, display is also quite nice, and as promised, the program doesn't lock when you remove large blocks of a playlist. nice work.

Not bloatware :)

Hmmm... compared to the overhyped Windows Media Player, WinAmp etc. SoundPlay works at lightning speed and BeOS doesn't slow down as much as Windows with Media Player running.

SoundPlay is improving rapidly with every new release and adding features (especially the ones added so far) *to me* does NOT seem like bloating it up... Its Equalizers, PitchChangers are amazing and with more plug-ins its only getting better....

Full credit to Marco ... great work!

I'm so glad you keep updating it Marco!

Whoever hasn't bought this app, go do so today!
BeOS just isn't the same without it.

Keep up the great work Marco!
p.s maybe we could see some cool new vis plugins or QING maps, with more colours soon? :^)

The bloat keeps it afloat
 By le_tigre - Posted on December 30, 2001 - 04:18:26   (#381)

There's an growing sense of feature-bloat with each successive release of Soundplay, but I don't think a BeOS app that links to other programs or has dependencies is going to do the trick now that Be is dead and so few programmers are actually developing for it. In this light, I think Marco is to be commended for keeping SoundPlay 4.6.5 as rigourous as it is. Sure, there are dedicated programs on other platforms that perform their specific tasks better than SoundPlay might, but as a bundled-service app that broadcasts internet audio and allows me to manipulate and tweak multiple looped mp3s in real time in a performance setting, SoundPlay still is the BeOS' arguable "killer app".

Magnificent Audio Player, but slowly approaching bloatware
 By salvo - Posted on September 5, 2000 - 09:15:39   (#122)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.3
Don't get me wrong, It performs much more efficiently than any comparable player on any other playform, but it does have too many features than it needs.

Most of the features would be better implemented as separate entities, especially in an environment such as BeOS.

Wouldn't it be better if it used BFS attributes to determine the Track Title and Artist? What about a Separate Media Node which created Visualisations? What if the OGG decoder and MikMOD decoder were BeOS codecs? Surely the Shoutcast Server would be better off on it's own. Soundplay could then just be an interface which throws it all together.

Really good audio player, fast and easy to use

Soundplay can read many sound formats, such as wav and mp3, midi and many other ones.

I like the real time efects (audio plugins), the possibility to read many sound files at the same time, the speed control, and the visualisation plugins.

I dislike the mp3 tags that are not supported.
