Get Rudolf's driver instead: http://www.bebits.com/app/3636

nekkoru, BeOS is indeed rubbish in black and white.

However, Rudolf's driver is much better than this one; it supports new chipsets, AGP, and if you've got a GeForce 2 you can even get accelerated hardware OpenGL.

This old closed source driver hasn't been updated for years and is pretty much dead.
http://www.bebits.com/app/3636 is open source, and constantly updated. Definately the first choice for any discerning nvidia users :D

Must-have for people with GeForce 2 chipset

Y'know, BeOS in Black&White is really bad. Must-download.

RCA jack

Hi,

It's for TVoutput probably: CVBS signal (composite video baseband signal).
There are a few things you can try for BeOS:
-use BeTVOut alongside this driver (do a search for it on bebits)
-use VESA mode and only connect the TVoutput. You need to remove all drivers supporting your card for that, so you won't have acceleration, overlay etc. (not really recommended)
-switch to the newer unified driver for Haiku (also here on bebits, see link below in talkback here). That driver is almost supporting TVout (0.53 not yet, but the current version 0.57 does have it: in development, not yet ready, but testable if you download it via Haiku's buildfactory).

Hope this info helps. :-)

Best regards,

Rudolf Cornelissen.

The RCA jack on the back of my Nvidia Geforce 2 DDR Video card, is it an input or an output? and How do I get it to work?

if anyone knows, I have been searching for ever!

Hi,

Nope, there's not. You _could_ enjoy video overlay with that card if you switched to the newer, openBeOS/Haiku graphicsdriver however.

Be has never had hardware OpenGL officially. If you do some research there are a few Radeons that had support if you can find some non-public beta software but who cares, what are you gonna do? Run the GL tea pot at 300FPS :P

GeForce 256 video-in support?

I'm using a GeForce 256 (ASUS) with video-in. I plugged my s-video to a video camera, but stampTV and similar stuff is porting "bad media node: cannot find any input" so is this just some stupid error or isn't there any support for video-in on nvidia cards?

just deleted windoze AND linux. makes me happy.

Unless you see a big NOW SUPPORTS!... on the nvidia driver
page DO NOT expect to use anything past a GeForce 2! Yes
*SOME* GeForce 3 are supported but it's a craps shoot. Do not expect anything past a GeForce 2 to run... by all means test
your GeForce 3 if you wish... but if you own a GeForce 4 or
higher here is what you do... you email, snail mail & phone
Nvidia & saw you want them to make the cards spec available
for developers to write drivers for alternative OS's. Nvidia
once promised to make their Linux drivers open source & this
would allow us to see what is going on & what needs to be done
but they never did... so phone - email - snail mail them & let
them know you want choice... mind you the semi irony is LOTS
of people have been running BeOS - going & buying a GeForce 4
& then are all broken up about how its not supported... Check
the hard ware compatability bone head! www.frizbe.net

Is this Unified NVidia Driver based on NVidias UDA (Unified Driver Architecture)?
If so, I could possibly use the driver with my new GeForce FX 5200.
What do you think?

Would changing BIOS setting from 4X AGP help??

Unfortunately there's no realistic possibility of this...the unified driver that we have now was created because an engineer at Be basically reverse engineered the hardware in his free time. nVidia will not release hardware specs, period.

I can't find any drivers that will work with my video chip. This univied nvidia driver doesn't seem to do anything. The docs say the there should be /dev/graphics/nv, but I have only /dev/graphics/stab.

I've tried BeMax and developer's ed 1.1...

Any ideas? I can't stand the 60mHz....

Current version when comment was posted: 2001.07.31
He is talking about AthlonXPs, not plain Athlons. And some newer Durons, are BASED on the SAME architecture as the AthlonXPs and not as the older Athlons. These newer Durons, if you got one of them, you still need to patch them.

thund3r/Jess - Durons aren't same!!!
 By s_d - Posted on November 19, 2002 - 18:44:20   (#4240)

Even some older Athlons don't need patch.
I installed BeOS several times on Duron and older Athlpn machines without any patch.

I rather suspect some weird Motherboard ACPI/BIOS functions. So may be you should try Safe Boot (Press SPACE when blinking rect appears in left-top BeOS boot screen) and then choose in Safe Mode Options "Disable BIOS calls" or what it was exactly.

If it works, you can set then this option permanently by editing drivers/kernel config file

No I ran BeOS PE off NTFS partitions for almost 2 years before I actualy used my Pro cd & gave myself a partition. Now first off you say it reboots after everything is loaded? unless you patched your kernel nothing will load (It will just reboot as soon as it tries to boot) so I will assume you patched your kernel for Athlons (Yes durons are same). If you havent then grab the patch & read how to do so on the wiki here. If you have patch & BeOS was booting fine before you added these drivers then its simple. Safe mode remove the drivers & have fun. If the system was booting beofre it could be that these dirvers want to use an irq address that was not being fought over before so moving a few pci cards around if you have extra slots could help, but Be runs just fine with out these drivers on supported Nvidia cards. I would hope yours is one as I have seen Geforce2 GTS & Mx400 run fine with out these drivers. Hope this helped
