warping freeze no Dano

Hi,

I still use this app because it has the hiding workspaces app, however, when using Dano, I have turned off the warping because, as I explained in my previous post in this talkback section, the os freezes on occasion, usually during an errant mouse movement when the warping seems to get stuck between spaces. It's like the mouse movement is not deliberate enough in its movement or something when crossing spaces, and gets stuck somewhere in the middle.

I would love to have warping back as it saves that extra mouse movement/click which saves my hand from getting even more tired than it already does get when I use the mouse.

This does not occur on R5 net-server. Also, this occurs using your last version named "Pwarp" as well as the latest workspace gadget.

Thanks again for this great app.

Yeah, I've thought about implementing that, but there's no fool-proof way of getting at the window being moved. There might be a way of doing something that /mostly/ works, but not always. Still, it would indeed be a nice addition! I'll keep it in mind...

i tought that warping in fluxbox is cool: scroll - jump desktop, drag an app to screen border - gump with program. it's probably not possible to implement this to beos, but i liked it A LOT.

Didn't take that long.

I actually had that feature in pWarp-0.3, don't know why it slipped in tWG. I'll add that ASAP.

all I wanted to do is select the text!

Okay, so I get a little over zealous when using the mouse. Especially when selecting a large block of text (but not all the text, that's what Alt-A is for). Because of this I tend to hold down the left mouse button, slam the mouse to the side of the screen, and run all the way up the edge. However I have noticed now that I've started using tWG I spend most of my time going to another workspace. This sucks.

My solution: since you don't have it set to drag windows with you from workspace to workspace (which would be pretty nice) I suggest that you check to see if a mouse button is being pressed. If so: don't warp.

Oh, I'd really like to see rapping (ie: donought world) where the top row warps to the bottom row & so forth. This means that from ANY screen I'd have direct access to 4 workspaces quickly.

Just a reminder: you asked for feedback :-)

Why having it in the deskbar menu ? Why not just a replicant ?

Feedback most appreciated

I'll see if I like them after a little bit of use.

Now that I know that there is some development on this, I wonder if an issue I had with PhOS will return with this new version. On PhOS, on occasion, when switching workspaces with the last pwarp, the OS would freeze. It would happen during the process of switching workspaces via an edge. When switching, if, during the switch, you moved the mouse back the other direction from which you came, the freeze would occur. Like you were interrupting the workspace change and the CPU use just stalled. Never happened in R5.0.3. Perhaps this is fixed with the alteration of the edge-switching algorithm. Anyway, I'll give it a whirl. Thanks.

What I could do is to enumerate all windows on the workspace I'm switching to and do some scripting to move them to this workspace, while moving the others off-screen, and back again to their correct locations. I don't know if it's doable, though. Something for the next version. :)

And yeah, five years is a lot. I started using BeOS January '99, and as you can see on my developer account I was pretty active, until I started studying at university. ;)

(whoa, I'm totally overwhelmed by the response I've been getting! While you're at it, by the way, feel free to rate the application ;)

Thanks a lot! It's always nice to know people like ones applications!

Brilliant!

I totally LOVE this app. Running millions of apps at the same time one several workspaces, this makes life very easy!

Well done and thank you!

Five years?! That's longer than I;ve been a BeOS user!!

Yep, I've discovered a lot of apps recently on BeBits, simply because I've been adding stuff to it, and building all kinds of code for my own things. Head Over Heels was my favourite though (found because I typed "make" in the search! :D )

Here's an ambitious addition for pWarp: how about a "sliding" desktop image (ultra fast, of course, and optional), so the desktop rolls into view as the old one rolls out? (Sounds like a bit of a nightmare to implement, but being the shallow guy that I am, I'd love it!!)

Rewrite pending!

Thanks!

It's funny though how people don't notice apps if they aren't updated regularly; this one has been around for five years on BeBits. :)

Anyway, a rewrite is due in the queue that fixes the potential input_server lock on shutdown, while also adding requested features, such as your own. Thanks for the support!

Great app...

... very usefull.
If it had an option to show Workspaces instantly instead of scrolling it i'd be even happier.

Grid issues

You're welcome!

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean; I use 16 workspaces which Workspaces arranges in a 4x4 grid, and that works great on my system. Could you be a bit more precise on exactly what happens and mail me the details? Thanks!

Nice

I have wanted something like this for ages. Thanks!

One small issue: the number of workspaces on the grid is 4x4, while warping seems to be laid out in a 3x3 grid. Could this also be a preference?
