My Yamaha UX256 works as expected and I am very happy. Serial MIDI Server is great! I hope the author continues work on it some day. Without SMS, lots of us BeOS MIDI enthusiasts would be sad!

I'll second that recommendation of the program. I have a Roland/Edirol SMPU-64 (4-in, 4-out USB 1 midi port, comparable to the MIDIOxygen unit) and it has always worked very well with it. Strangely, the app got very little mention at LeBuzz.
At least the link <http://www.gopherwood.com/staff/noah/BeWare/midi.shtml> is still active. This developer did a lot of great stuff, I'm hoping he could be persuaded to resume development.

This is an interesting add-on to BeOS. I own a Yamaha UX256 USB MIDI interface. I am downloading serial midi server right now...
