Well, I have been working on my calculator for a few days now. Perhaps your expecting a four-function calculator ?

Also, it is a side project to my cash projects, as is getting you that hard drive that I freely offered to you. I have been very busy, what with three lawsuits going on, a business to run, contracts to write, contracts to fullfill, women to sleep with, cars to maintain, property to maintain, dogs to care for, food to buy, doctor appointments for my terrible health situation (long story, five prolapsed disks and a crap load of nerve damage, along with three disks that are no longer to be found..painful), and much more going on...

Notice that my simple calculator should be ready for first release by July 21, 2003. Hehe, should say how much time I have to spend towards it.

Anyway, I strongly agree with mmu_man on this subject. I wanted it as a tabbed view so you could just click the tab for HTML instead of hitting the link at the bottom. Everything should work as is. I strongly oppose the idea of an integrated HTML WYSIWYG editor in BeMail. Too much bloat occurs when that happens, unless you can add a replicant view, and do everything with a seperate app (like html viewing would be).

Oh well, this is a feature that would have to wait till a final stable release before you would begin to add it. You do not want to add more code to unstable code.

So, who knows how in hades I can support more than 10 #s ?

1234567890 is fine and dandy, but I want to be able to do 12345678901234567890 * 12345678901234567890 and get the result.

I have tried may formats, and currently I have just kept everything in a const char* and BString so I can convert to an integer (or float) format for the math. Which is what I am on.

SDO... my calculator will allow you to decorate it as you please :-) It also is the first real test of my liblooncraz.so, which handles tasks such as window shaping, window position, shape, and size memorizaition, window and view animations, a preference saving method (simple), and new controls.

I wish I could run around on the 'Net all the time again, but I needed to work some more, so I could buy me a new Volvo S60R and a few thousand dollars for uprades (300HP is a little shy of my performance goals, though 5.4 to 60 is actually a bit faster than my 345HP 240..traction is the key).

Anyway, part on losers, I go work now on important things... survival and pleasure.

Why, oh why am I still in this dying community? Y'all always make everything yellow.. why not blue? :-) (Get it?)

I didn't ask to remove HTML viewing (not that I'd like to), but to let user disable it, and have it disabled by default because it's _bad_ practice to put HTML in mails.
Also because of that I really don't like the idea of letting ppl polute other's mbox from BeOS with HTML-mails. So I don't agree on having an html editor.

Re: SDO
I didn't say _html_ was bad, if you read me I said it was bad _in mail_, because it's not its place. mail was created (before html) for plain text, and shouldn't be otherwise. end of story.

Yes, I'm sure that's why a ton of 1's showed up right after your post. I'm stretching nothing. Besides which it'd be pretty consistent with your behavior both here and various other online forums. And once again you've never addressed why it is that you're treating betas as release software.

Learn to read. I made no excuse for bugs. I simply pointed out that you specifically downloaded something that is tagged as *NOT* being a final, tested release, and then bitched about it as if it is. And while we're on the subject, registering 12 accounts specifically to vote down an app is exceedingly lame.

FYI if you installed the sample code alongside with BeOS R5, you already have such an add-on installed.
Have a look at:
file:/boot/optional/sample-code/add-ons/MailMarker/
(on your local harddisk)

What you want is a Tracker add-on to do that. It should be *REALLY* easy to do and, in fact, I guess it already exists. If it does not, I am sure one can come up with something like that in 10 minutes. :)

Good point, some people hate HTML mail. An option to turn it off, and another to not download linked graphics would be useful. And we don't have an HTML WYSIWYG text editor anyway, unless we can cram in something like InSite Designer (http://www.raycone.com/Designer/) as a replicant. Or Gobe Productive. I wonder if they'd license it, or better, have a choice and thus competition for plug-in HTML editors!

Plus, like "monkeysuit" suggested on BeShare, something like Mail Washer (http://www.mailwasher.net/) which e-mails back automatic abuse reports. That sort of feature could auto-complain about HTML mail too!

How do I need to explain this ? HTML is *not* for mail.
Mail is about plain text and *only* that.
Those who send HTML mails break both the Netiquette and the RFCs.
So the correct rule fo thandling those mails is one word: delete.
(actually, reply them to explain why they shouldn't send html before :)

A better HTML view could be done. Nice idea to have it as a separate tabbed view. Currently it has a hacked HTML display where it strips out the tags and displays the resulting text, which it currently does for e-mail which only has an HTML part. As a bonus, it lets you see the hidden stuff that spammers use, which is normally white text in a 1 point font.

However, that should wait until we finish getting the bugs out of 2.1.0. Adding a big feature so late in the cycle is asking for trouble.

How about HTML viewing?

VERY easy to add.

Just use a nested Net+ view, using Net+ scripting commands to remove all of its navigation, and add it to a tabbed view anytime there is a HTML attachment.

Not difficult, I'd do it but I am busy with more important coding projects.

Anyway, the next public thing coming from The loon to you: LoonCalc, a lovely GUI calculator doing basic math, squares, and percentages, in a wonderful, shaped, UI that allows you do use the keypad just like a calculator.

Even the ability to save all math done(like a professional calculator) should be present in first release.

Will you two just grow up already? Also, which part of it being a release *candidate* and not a final release did you miss? This is in fact the QA/QC stage, this is not a final, completely tested master. I might further note that this project is done entirely on people's free time ; it is not backed by a company, they can't afford to hire hordes of dedicated beta testers, etc. As such, every day users end up being the ones who help do that, that's simple life in the free/open source world. Once again if you don't want bugs, then don't download RCs, wait for the final.

IMAP Downloading Bug in RC2

Current version when comment was posted: 2.1.0 Release Candidate 2
Oops, Nathan has found a bug already in Release Candiate 2:

It causes messages to be redownloaded after a full resync on non-IMAP4rev1 compliant servers following the deletion of a message from the server and before relaunch of the daemon.

Fix will be in RC3, or maybe that will be the last big bug and we will finally have a Final version? If you can't wait, compile the latest code from SourceForge CVS or send the publisher an e-mail.

Thanks for the response, Alex. I foolishly/unthinkingly made the assumption that the configuration for the Email Prefs, including the POP3 and SMTP addresses, would be automatically transfered from the old Daemon to the new. Thus I did an incomplete configure in the Email Prefs on my first try. What showed me the light was when I stumbled onto the Network06_EmailPrefs.html in the Replacement Email Preferences folder of the program. All is well now. Please forgive my sloppy haste.

Fixing Not Connecting to Mail Server Problem

Check that your mail server's name is spelt correctly in the e-mail settings. Sometimes "pop" or "mail" is good enough, if you have the Network Preferences Domain correctly set to your service provider's domain (like "myisp.com", then the system knows that "pop" really means "pop.myisp.com"). If that doesn't work, you have to put in the full mail server name (pop.myisp.com or whatever it is). Of course, I'm assuming that it is a POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) server, I haven't any experience with setting it up for IMAP style servers.

For testing, try the Terminal command "telnet pop.myisp.com 110" and it will respond with a POP mail server login request. Type "quit" to exit. If it doesn't work, try other possible mail server name combinations. Here's what it looks like for my ISP:

Sun Jun 29 11:46:06 509 /boot/home>telnet pop 110
Trying 66.185.95.101...
Connected to pop.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK InterMail POP3 server ready.
+OK ? InterMail POP3 server signing off.

Thanks for your savvy trouble-shooting, Bruno. Installing the correct program worked. I now have the problem of, after configuring Email Prefs, saving them, clicking on the DeskBar icon, and clicking on "check for new mail ", getting the message, "Error while connecting to server: Connection refused or host not found." I'm able to surf with NetPositive but can't download my mail. Would you please help me here too?

Corrupt Chain Settings Files

What, it really says "Message Parseb" rather than "Message Parser"? Sounds like your chain settings file has been corrupted (delete that e-mail account and re-enter it).

If you wish to check this theory, examine the chain settings files in /boot/home/config/settings/Mail/chains/inbound. They are flattened BMessages - use ViewIt http://www.bebits.com/app/315 to see their contents (turn on the "Dig Files" checkbox then drag and drop the various chain files to ViewIt).

Would it be possible to support marcone's liblayout in the future? If this is what is needed to accommodate properly Tracker fontsizes > 10. That would be nice indeed. It's no big deal to restart Tracker w/ ontsize 10, edit the prefs, and set it back to the earlier fontsize but still ... :-)

Speaking of Beam ...
 By ebor - Posted on June 28, 2003 - 02:51:39   (#7927)

I'm using Beam as mailer/sender and MDR as mail fetcher ATM. As Beam handles native email gracefully the two work almost flawlessly together.

As email frontend, Beam beats BeMail hands down. It can be customized to great extent, and thus is ideal for the non-minimalistic type of email user. For some reason MDR won't send "pending" emails created with Beam (I don't think of this as a bug though, so no bugreport at this time). Plus, Beam's filter capabilities are still in an early state, and fetching messages sometimes doesn't work properly - Oliver and I were never able to sort this one out. So using MDR w/its great filtering and AGM's ingenious SPAM detector plugin seems to be the solution at this time.

Try it - if you are missing Mail-It you'll love the Beam/MDR combo.

1. It would be nice if you make it possible to move between options in the Account settings tree (up/down arrows, home, end etc)
2. How about more smooth logo in the Preferences if no accounts is selected?
3. Check how Postmaster is checking for email, it's like Tracker's status window, very BeOS'ish and it's rocks (and have Cancel button btw)

On my computer, there are two scripts that each have one line in them. They both try to start mail_daemon.
"net" has the following line...
/system/servers/mail_daemon -E &
"mail_daemon.sh" has this line...
exec /boot/beos/system/servers/mail_daemon -E

Can I safely delete one of those files(I'd think so)? Which one would be the better choice?
