You can record with stamptv by doing the following...
1. Launch TV app
2. Launch Capture
3. Quit TV app
4. Launch stampTV
Happy recording!

Some notes to the codecs/audio input:
- in R5, you only have non-compressing audio codecs
- in Dano, you have i.e. the mp3 codec available for video, and it will work with every video codec; they are completely unrelated
- not every codec/color space combination will work in Windows. Dano + Indeo5 RealTime + mp3 codec will do, though
- the "Mute" checkbox is currently hard-coded to "Line" which is most often the line in name for audio input. This button only changes if line in is supposed to be looped through line out - you either hear or don't hear the output in line out, but it will always be recorded.
- the preview of YCbCr422 is currently so resource hungry, that you should close the video window during recording.
I hope that the final release will take less than two years to be finished :-)

So far, I have been able to use Capture to encode in realtime using the following formats:
1 - Intel Indeo 5 Realtime, 358x240, 30 fps, 16 bit, MP3 Audio at 44.1 kHz. This seems to be the best for anyone who do not have fast HDs.
2 - Intel Indeo 5 Realtime, 640x480, 30 fps, 16 bit, MP3 Audio at 44.1 kHz. On a crappy HD, this seems to be the best quality you can get. Setting 32 bit color will hog the bandwidth in an HD like that and the captured image will be useless.
3 - Same as 1 and 2 using PhotoJPEG compression. Seems to work just as fine as the above ones. No difference in quality.
4 - DivX (DIV3), 358x240, 30 fps, 32 bit, MP3 Audio at 44.1 kHz. This seems to be the only of the 3 codecs that work with audio and video. The other 2 results in video but no audio. Also 32 bpp is the only colorspace supported by this codec.
Note I am using the Media Kit beta 1. If Zeta ships with a better MP3 decoder/encoder/writer and someone *hint* gets ffmpeg compiled as a BeOS coded, we sure will have a hell of a platform for realtime video capture.

Thank you Axeld! :)
A great improvement and I eagerly await the next [final?] release.
It is easily useable for even an old fella like me.. :D

The only restrictions "Capture" will impose on format settings are those given by the media kit.
In R5, the QuickTime file format lets you choose some other encoders as well - but if you want to directly encode to mp3, you will need a more current BeOS release, like the leaked Dano, or the upcoming Zeta.
I will further develop this application, I still have a road map to version 1.0 and I intend to get this far one day :-)

Really pleased to see how much improved this version is over the last. I hope you have time to continue improving this.
Any plans for timer recordings being able to record specific channels?
Also, what's the reason that we aren't able to record audio in any other format besides raw or raw and PCM with quicktime format?

It's quite unfortunate that I can't use Capture for now. I'll look for alternatives. Hope you can get a new version with this functionality soon!

I haven't investigated any scripting capabilities yet, and it's likely that I forgot forwarding scripting messages to the BWindow/BView in question.
Anyway, Capture will get full video recorder like timing functionality so that may do it for a start. I will look into scripting later.
I think that might also answer your question if there is any update planned - I just don't know when that will be.

Oops, tab in memo doesn't work, again:
tell Capture
let Window "Capture: Save" do
click "Cancel"
quit
end
endtell
Thanks for Capture, any update planned?

It seems Capture can't be scripted by BeScript, very unfortunately as it is the only capture application that works on my system. I want to start and stop it at periodic times, is there another solution?
With BeScript this should work, but doesn't:
tell Capture

I've no idea - maybe because of some wrong settings, but that doesn't have to be the reason.
I can only say that it works nicely on my own system.

Why??

personalStudio's codecs aren't integrated in the BeOS' media kit, they are completely independent from it and can only be used by personalStudio; they are proprietary.
Many other codecs are just too slow to do any realtime encoding, even on today's fast processors. There is nothing mysterious about it :-)

Also, the Pegasus codec that comes with personalStudio seems to work really well. Doesn't drop any frames on my rig. Strangely, it's not an available codec to Capture. Somehow, it's bundled up inside pS?

Yep, that helped a lot. I actually discovered the Indeo5 Realtime codec combination last night. The others dropped frames quite badly, although I'm not sure why. I'm running dual Celerons at 533 per (not that shaby), 768MB RAM, GeForce2 MX400 video, Huappage WinTV.
Anyway, that one's working well for me at a slightly higher data rate. 320x240, but at 32-bit color, stereo raw audio.
Thanks for the feedback!

That's one of the short-comings of the beta: it doesn't give you a clue about which codec accepts what settings.
For example, one good working codec, if you got R5 Pro, is the Intel Indeo5 Realtime codec, video size 384x288 (for Europeans PAL/2), 16-Bit colors, AVI file format, and either no sound, or Raw Audio (you need one of the BeOS betas to have more choice here).
Of course, others will also work, the most critical choice is the color space setting - some of the encoders are very picky about it.
BTW there is a beta "VideoRecorder" application from Be which displays the possible settings.
Hope this helps.

Great looking/working app for just a beta! I'm very impressed.
One question: what combination of codecs and settings work to begin recording video in? I can't seem to get any of my codecs to work with the other settings.
It tells me that the file format and encoder settins aren't complete. I've selected a valid path and file name, set to AVI, with one of my 6 or 7 codecs.
Is there a recommended basic setting that will work?
Thanks!
