Seem i get the DHCP problem many's have reported in the comments.
The chip mostly all the time say n/a, even if it's identified correctly in BONE. I installed it with the included script.
When working the driver work quite well. I don't know what i do to make it work, i guess it's a mix of disabling it and setting it manually before selecting DHCP again. Unfortunaly it's not very usable as that mess of manipulation is required back at each boot :(
It almost seem like it's a bad init order in the driver that can work or not depending on some delay/time out. Of course pure speculation from my part.
I have that chip embeded in the SiS 645DX Chipset (motherboard asus P4S533-E)

Has to do with using BONE. It wont get the IP address from dhcp. When I used dhconfig in the console, it said something like no dhcp lease available, and that's why its not working. I tried adding the number of leases available, but I don't think I was using it properly.
So that's the thing that needs to get fixed. I will be emailing to notify.

Hey again,
Just put this version back on so I can access the net again from BeOS. Net_server just crashed, but looking at the stack crawl it looks like the add-on "netmonitor" was to blame - it never worked anyway so I've removed it - I hope that will be the end of my stability problems!
Thanks
Simon

Hi Axel,
Thanks for this driver.
When I returned to university this year, it seems some network upgrades have been done (windows now says the link is 100 Mbps where it said 10 last year). However, net_server seems more unstable now - it seems to crash fairly often (with a message in the debugger that says "the token space is full - I will crash now" or something similar (in windows atm)).
I notice the driver in Haiku CVS now allows you to specify speed, so I intended to try that and set it manually to 10 Mbps to see if things improved. However I copied the driver out of the Haiku-networkingkit-kit-cvs.zip from the build factory but without success - now on boot net_server goes to 100% CPU (in the thread ether_reader). Could this be because the build factory is running on a BONE box? If so, is there an easy way for me just to get the driver out of CVS and jam it without needing to get the rest of the tree? Otherwise could you try posting a newer binary here?
Thanks very much for all your work!
Simon

I have tried BeOS Max Edition V3.1 beta 1 and I have the same exact problem. This is a fresh install, and the first thing I tried to do was to get the SIS900 card to work, but DHCP does not seem to work in BeOS, although it works fine in Windows on the same computer. It seems like DHCP is failing, and the settings are reset, because everytime I set it to DHCP, save, close and reopen networking, it reverts back to saying choose your own settings.

I can only say that it works under R5 and Zeta. I do not support PhOS; please try it with an official BeOS release and see if you still got problems there.

My K7S5A on-board LAN is showing up in Boneyard (PhOS), but that's about it. If i set it to DHCP, it doesn't get an IP address, but stays "n/a".
When i reboot into Linux, copy the settings from there and set them manually in Boneyard, Boneyard and ifconfig show the IP address and mask i entered, but ping says "network unreachable"

Hi Axel
I have used this driver and the one on openBeOS they have worked ok. I did have some problem getting a IP-address but usually I hade to restart the net_server other times I hade to restart BeOS and some times I hade to start windows XP and then restart in to BeOS(Don't know if that did anything but I did get a IP-address). My problem are now this that I do get a IP-address and now every time but I can't get out on the net, I can ping 127.0.0.1 but not my router or my other pc. I did run the pref app for the network in openBeOS but not any more. Oh and the driver on openBeOS gets my net_server to hangs(not this one thou) Ps how are the openBFS? Can I run it more than as a beta?

Thanks to dev Dorfler for this recent update. Ein Prosit, Alex !!
I have a bunch of k7s5a mbrds: sis735 chipset w/sis900LAN PHY, and used the earlier version of this driver, with no NIC-specific traffic problems.
Re: Jack Burton's comment of 2003 mar 25, I have also had various BeOS 5xxx net_server systems unable to fully complete the (atx-style) shutdown; freezing at a later 'shutting down svc_name' box, when using k7s5a mbrds.
I must point out that, I believe, every one of those builds DID perform a full atx shutdown exactly once, early in their life, but thereafter, would hang near end of shutdown sequence.
I had not thought to finger the NIC with this nuisance behaviour. Thunk it was a sis735 'feature'.
Did you notice that it is sooooo wedged, that holding the power button does nothing. Gack ! Who knows what the CPU is executing!?! It certny stays hot!
Until we find and fix, a workaround for that shutdown problem is to disable certain apm statements in ..
/boot/home/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel
If one could go back in Time, they might also have booted 'safe' by tapping Tab at 1st boot-screen and saying 'do not call bios', then hack that kernel init file.

yes but again we are close hardware wise & wouldnt mind knowing Bios settings & such but differant cards & such can affect this as well. This driver might kick ass too if I had my sound card in another pci slot... who knows... but for now I'm too busy to screw around any more & see if that might be the case. maybe later on but for now this driver gives me a lot of grief.

Hm, it's really strange, Jess, that nothing ever works fine for you. I'm using that driver with net_server since Axel updated it to work for the Sis900. I have the same motherboard as you have, and I think it's a GREAT mobo. The onboard stuff works great. I had a RTL8139 before and I find that this NIC is even fasterl. No problem with net server at all.
The only issue is that using this driver in conjunction with the updated APM driver that is here on bebits won't let the box shutdown properly (i.e. sometimes freezes on shutdown, sometimes reboots instead of halting.). Anyway I can live with it (but just until Axel fixes that.) :=)))

I also have the ECS k7s5a with the sis900 nic. Networking is stable on netserver (don't have to restart). On Dano, however, I cannot get the sis900 to work; anyone have any ideas. I can get a Realtek 8139 to work on Dano though.

I know it's not a real NIC but again I should have worded it.
This driver kills net_server dead :) net_server rocks with a
real NIC. With this I gotta restart my networking like every 30 min. Anyway just wanted to free up a NIC but I'll dig it
back out & go back to my normal NIC. Thanks for the
development. I'm sure lots of other people are doing fine with this.

It's not the driver which dies, it's the net_server. If the driver would die, so would BeOS.
I must admit that I haven't tested the driver with net_server lately (only did so with an earlier version with the SiS 630 chipset), but it works perfectly with BONE.
I'll look into any net_server issues shortly.
In any way, SiS 900 is a real NIC; it's rather time to get a new networking stack :-)

Today I thought I'd try out the on board crap on my mother
board. Regretfully I too own the ECS k7s5a. I'm using this
driver right now & have been trying to listen to the radio...
It looks like this driver can't handle constant heavy flow
as it's dropping a lot. This could be many other things so
I'll hold off on the finger pointing... but in the mean time
thanks for your hard work. I hope this turns out the radio
stations I'm listening to just have sucky bandwidth today.

I took my nic from my other beos machine (which does work) and installed it on my k7s5a, and lo and behold I still have: "ping socket:name not found". Any ideas?
