At least without fixing it somehow, which I don't have time nor skill to do, I couldn't compile the 4.2.0 nor the 4.3.0 from the web site you get to if you click on the source code link. The version on the WIP page, on the other hand, compiles fine on R5.0.3 with the normal gcc that came with it, just by following the three steps in the beos.txt readme...
If anyone knows how to get the newer ones going, maybe they could post some help here...

Apparently you should just hit the WIP page, since 4.0.3 is not the latest stable version any more, and the download seems busted again anyway.

First of all Allegro i not "DJGPP game library", well it wasn't written only for it.
Allegro WIP means "Allegro Work In Progress" IIRC, which is nothing more than "beta" or something similar. It means that this isn't official release, only version which someday will be next release.

If you do a search of bebits for the keyword "allegro", you get the entries "allegro" and "allegro WIP". They both seem ports of the djgpp lgame library, to BeOS.
Why two ports? And which one should we rather use??

I've just tested my ftp from here and it seems to be working. The http is hosted by my adsl supplier and they're notoriously unreliable. It failed for me too.

Neither of the 2 binary download links is working. The HTTP one results in a file not found error and the FTP one times out.

See the Version Information box. I did actually state that this was the latest stable release.
Thanks for the suggestion about the development version, I'm aware that they're a long way out of sync but would prefer the brave to build their own copy. I believe someone has already listed that one on BeBits.

You might want to mention that this is the STABLE branch's 4.0.3 beta 1.
IMO, The unstable branch's 4.1.8 is a lot more stable than 4.0.3, so you might want to look into posting that version too.

Just installed and got this working, I'm new to c++ but am impressed with this library so far, hope I can do some interesting stuff for beos with it ;-)
