The problem is that it can't find the preferences file. Make an empty file ~/config/settings/BeDictionary and start the app. (It'll use 'default' settings and write them on quit)

Nope, shouldn't be a problem.

If you are a new user and are getting a "There was a problem opening the preference file." message blame my stupidity :)
Create a blank file called "BeDictionary" in /boot/home/config/settings
Start BeDictionary and it will just use default settings. When you quit it will write the settings you had to disk.
This will be fixed in the next release. I apologise for any inconvenience.

Very nice app. Not only useful but also a very fun time killer. Just look for some "haxor's" term in jargon and follow the links in the results.

You need to replace your old BeDictionary settings file. To do this, drop the BeDictionary.settings (or is it BeDictionary.sample... I'm not on Be right now and can't remember) file on the link in the folder that exists when you unzip the archive. (That sounded confusing... the problem is, I can't remember what the link is called, but it's a link to /boot/home/config/settings)
Then go into /boot/home/config/settings, delete the old BeDictionary file, and rename BeDictionary.settings to be BeDictionary.
Worked for me.

Great app; I've used it many times but the newest release ( .9 ) seems to not work on my plain vannilla BeOS R5.03 install. It creats a tiny empty window in the top left corner..
