Turns out that the irc server I was on blocked the file so I had to add the person to my accept list, so it works now. Your prompt response was usefull.

This is more or less automatic, if you receive a dcc send, under normal circumstances Vision will pop up a file panel asking where you want to save the file. Auto-accept simply ignores this step and starts receiving immediately. This will normally only fail if it's unable to connect to the IP/port that the sender specifies, which maybe a firewall or NAT issue. You should see a small file transfers window in any case.

Hi, you're the one who has to know :) If you want to connect to the Freenode network, go to http://www.freenode.net and check the server list. Same for undernet.org etc etc etc. Good luck.

It seems Vision binary was linked to libsocket.so which isn't available on net_server (at least by default :).

But source compiles just fine, so if You have compiler (i used Oliver Tappe's GCC 2.95.3) download source version, unzip, and in Terminal use command "make" :)

Did you by any chance grab the source code archive by mistake?

The regular one should have a binary in it just called Vision.

Vision doesn't play nice with mozilla
 By CommdrSozo - Posted on September 30, 2004 - 20:27:04   (#14291)
Current version when comment was posted: 0.9.6-0203-PPC
I've had some issues running vision and mozilla (specifically firefox) simultaneously. While vision is trying to connect to a server, firefox will not load pages and retuns "server not found" or other timeout errors (closing vision immediately remedies this). Also, if vision and firefox are running at the same time for more than about 5 minutes, both apps crash (usually vision goes first) and put the system in a semi-unresponsive state that only a press of the reset button will fix. Is anyone else noticing this or is this just on my machine?

At the moment I have absolutely zero time to work on it, so the best I can give you there if you want something newer than what's on bebits is to grab the source from sourceforge and build it yourself as explained at http://vision.sf.net

As for mirc scripts, I never had any intention of supporting those, sorry.

Indeed, that'd be a fair amount of work to implement, and for the forseeable future the short on time situation isn't likely to change..not in college any more. Will let you know if I do end up finding more time though, or if you want to work on a patch on your own you can always email me if you have architectural questions about the client or whatever.

It is /possible/ and I would love that myself (I've written a few mIRC add-ons), however it would take quite a bit of work to implement, and as the author says a few posts back (to which you should've paid more attention, BTW), he hasn't really got the time.

On the same note - should the situation change someday, I'd be willing to offer some help in that regard (if I happen to have some extra time). :-)

That command simply looks for a shell script called scripts/soundplay-hey, executes it and pipes back the result ; I may have forgotten to include the actual script in the bebits builds though, will correct that at some point.

The scripting library is linked against it from some experimental work ages ago, yes, but it doesn't actually use it or provide a way to interface with it at the moment. Depending on the complexity of the aliases you'd want to add, you could do this manually for now by adding them in src/ParseCmd.cpp assuming you know how to work with C++, but there isn't any scripting support at the moment, nor do I have a huge amount of time to implement it at present.

So, Vision links with lua. Can it be used for scripting Vision too, and if so, how is it done? That and aliases are the only two things i am really missing from Vision, but i guess with proper scripting support, i could write my own aliases.

That would indeed appear to be something mIRC-specific, with which I must admit to not being excessively familiar. So for the moment I'm afraid that won't work, since I have no idea how that's implemented on mIRC's side either, so I'm not sure how to go about mimicking it offhand.

dcc commands question
 By zoontf - Posted on November 9, 2003 - 04:17:27   (#9555)

On numerous occasions I have been trying to interact with xdcc fserves. I send the trigger, and get back a message like the following:

Server Notice: This server is using an alternate server method, please make sure your DCC Server is active and set to port 59. /dccserver +sc on 59. This is a mIRC command.

I tried typing that command, but nothing seems to happen. What does this message really mean? And is it possible to make vision operate in such a way that I can use these "alternate server method" servers?

Just curious. Otherwise, great application. By far my fav. IRC client on BeOS.

1337 is...
 By Jess - Posted on April 19, 2003 - 17:59:36   (#6944)
Current version when comment was posted: 0.9.6-0203
Leet is a language created for a few things back in the day.
One was when bandwidth was so low sending text messages was
like sending cd iso's! So you would type "U" to replace "You"
this started to change how words where spelled & created a sub genre of spelling. This was compounded on BBS boards as people trying to share infomation where censored. BBS admins would try to block certain words to discourage disscussion of certain things the admin did not approve of. This too the already compounded spellings into a new realm. The idea to substitude characters for normal letters or misspell things in order to defeat the word filters in place on the boards that blocked whatt he admin felt should not be disscused.

Frankdaplank: > Any one know how to hack bla bla bla <-- this got blocked

Frankdaplank: > 4ny 0n3 kn0w h0w 70 h4ck b14 b14 b14 <-- this
did not.

Thus 1337 was born - A small method of hacking in itself to defeat language filters on BBS boards.

it's funny :)

At the moment I can't do much of anything since I lack a functioning internet link in BeOS. In this particular case though, practically every network that has services also has builtin aliases /ns, /cs, etc. So for example, instead of /msg nickserv identify yourpass you can type /ns identify yourpass. Hope this helps for now.

Simple alias support would be nice
 By Karina - Posted on January 12, 2003 - 14:15:26   (#5305)
Current version when comment was posted: 0.9.5-0906
Some simple alias support would be fantastic.
So we can do simple things to cut down on typing.

ie. to identify with nickserv on dalnet you type
/msg nickserv@services.dal.net identify password

if we had simple alias support so you could make an alias like:
/nsid /msg nickserv@services.dal.net identify $1

then it'd be as simple as entering:
/nsid password

Identifiers to represent the current channel ie. $C and to represent text entered after an alias ie. $1 $2 $3 etc. are about all that is needed for the time being.

Especially on moderated irc servers where channel control goes through a bot/services system, this would be very handy.

Thanx again.

Keep up the great work :)

Thanx Rene

Looking very forward to the next version.

I don't intend on changing it for the moment since Vision's primarily window oriented, and as such you won't wind up using /msg as much. Also, /m isn't really significantly shorter than /msg whereas it is a lot shorter than /mode #whatever. You're welcome to change it in your own copy though if it bothers you that much, just have a look at src/ParseCmd.cpp

Definently the best irc client for Be.
My only dislike is the use of /m for mode switching where its ussually equivalent to /msg on every other client. Any chance of that being changed in the future?

Other than that fantastic. Keep up the great work, all us irc addicts really appreciate it.

Thanks :) As for scripting, anything related to that will most likely have to wait until post 1.0 since it'd pretty much require some drastic architectural changes ; for the moment I'd rather concentrate on the base missing stuff (ignore, etc.), after that we'll see. I might also be forced to take a break for a while due to some carpal tunnel issues, not sure on that yet either.
