The mime-error was somewhere in between what you said and the Mozilla behaviour I described. Namely that I applied an old 'buggy' patch that couldn't find the signature. Although that has nothing to do with the 'won't run without a profile in the new format' bug that causing firefox to just exit.
I'm working on it right now though.

It's pretty unfair to blame a conflicting resource and BApp constructor on me. And it's still one of the more common errors BeOS coders do. Granted, most don't do it by design. Perhaps the word "blooper" has too much of an egg-on-your-face quality, as the error is of minor importance to most apps. For that I apologize.
So, why does nsBeOSApp::GetAppSig() fail to find the signature when it clearly is there (as attribute as well as in resources)? Is, for some unexpected reason, the first image found by get_next_image_info() not the Firefox binary? Just a shot in the dark. I'd look myself if I had a Mozilla build here, but it's frickin' huge.
FWIW, thanks Decaf for your hard work.

Ok, I've identified the problem.
It has troubles creating a firefox profile in config/settings/Mozilla/Firefox. I managed to provoke this error even on my own machine so it's not tied to Zeta / Phos.
I'll see what I can do to get it going for you.

Well, upon reinstallation of the previous version of Firefox BONE, the Washington Post issue has gone. I don't know why, as I had already tried that. ?
I just remembered I had used a previous version of the "signons.txt" document in the settings folder in my previous installations. I forgot to do that with this reinstallation, and now washingtonpost.com works.

If it's only a problem on those platforms there isn't much I can do, except trying to discuss it with power users on BeShare and see if we can find a solution.
I don't see a reason why it shouldn't run though, so we might resolve this yet.

I'm using PhOS b5 and I've tried your new Firefox release, and I have the exact same problem... The Firefox icon shows up at the deskbar for about a half second and then disappears - so it doesn't start up :( I also tried everything you mentioned, but it still won't work... No firefox or mozilla-stuff appears in FileTypes, so there isn't anything to delete in there... Since this problem happens only in Zeta and PhOS, I assume that the problem is only in the dan0-releases? :(

If running from console doesn't write 'Signature in rsrc doesn't match constructor arg.' it might not be the same error.
When I think about it mimeset -F Firefox would probably be best.
Is the problem in BONE or Zeta?

Nope. It's you that are doing a mistake, and calling it a 'BeOS dev blooper 101' might be taken as an insult. Don't speak of things you do not know, and try to be polite.
The same BApp is used for Firefox and for Mozilla so it reads the apps signature as it's mimetype, and fallbacks to a Mozilla signature if none is found. Why this is done I won't go into, but this causes the need in some cases to make sure it's mimetype is correctly registered when installing a new version.

I've had some issues with updating Firefox caused by BeOS's disk caching. A reboot will fix that. Although I hate having to reboot my system its not like the two minutes max it'll take to come back up will kill you.

Thanks, Decaf, I realize why I felt confused. There was and is no Firefox entry in my list under applications. When I get to FileTypes the add-ons way, I only see one thing that says Firefox that looks something like what you mean, and I tried that with my first install of this verzion. (I reinstalled it with a new download) What I mean is "application/x-vnd.Firefox"
Firefox just starts up so you can see the icon in the deskbar, and then shuts done in two seconds. I erased my Firefox settings folder and the entire previous install before installing this one, as I usually do. I have always had success with starting Firefox. Anyway, seems I am not the only one. We'll see if anyone has any success. Any ideas in the meantime?

Launch the application under Preferences called FileTypes. Open application select Firefox, click Remove.
Close FileTypes and try again. NOTE: Don't touch anything else as FileTypes are an important part of your system.
Also right-clicking Firefox and selecting the FileType add-on can work if you chose save and close.
If one of these work let me know which one so I can put in the readme.

I hope I can check this build out.

Hi,
Just remove your settings folder /boot/home/config/settings/Firefox/ to elsewhere and launch Firefox again. Everything works here, including Flash plugin that someone pointed at BeShare it wasn't working with latest Firefox BONE.
Don't forget to copy the file bookmarks.html from your settings to replace the fresh one. :)
Another way to backup your Bookmarks is clicking in 'Bookmarks' -> 'Manage Bookmarks...'. Then you click on 'File' -> 'Export' and save it in a safe place. Do that before delete your settings, of course.

Try scrolling on this site:
http://www.morphzone.org
Firefox (Bone) jumps all over the place, doesn't like the site at all.
Now, the HTML on the site is not so hot (to put it mildly) but the Firefox on Windows handles it fine apparantly as do other browsers.
I do not have the same problem on any other sites.

This might be the same issue that has caused recent builds to "forget" they are logged in to www.amazon.com on every refresh - I suspect some cookie handling bug. It may be a bit difficult to track down but I'll have a go in a couple of weeks when I finally have some free time again.

I keep getting the registration page, over and over, even with the correct registration information input. When I hit the submit button, the browser seems not to respond, as in, I see no activity on the status bar at all, nor of the upper right icon. Opera, however, does work. In fact, I haven't encountered the registration page with Opera at all, unless I want to sign in voluntarily. And registration worked. Is this the right place to post these sorts of things or is there somewhere else better?
