It seems that the mozilla-tree has been optimized for speed. Don't worry there will be a fast BONE-build for FireBird too.

Hey, latest BONE mozilla much faster than Firebird

Wow, Mozilla for BONE (Zeta) is much much faster establishing connections than Firebird. Firebird networking was very slow under Zeta, but the new Mozilla build flies on this box. Great work everyone involved.

The only big bug left is the caret focus bug, other than that, this browser is 100% usable under BeOS.

Scanty discovered that archive was in tar.gz format, in reality, so renamed to mozilla-i586-pc-beos-20040401-bone.tar.gz.

If you cannot unpack your zip, rename it it *.tar.gz
and try again

Sorry, people, there was BFS-corruption on my HDD.
So initial mozilla-bone gzip was corrupted.
Now it should be OK

Am I correct that only Mozilla-netserver (version 1.7a-20040301) is new/improved?

JetGFX finally lives up to its name!

Speed and redraw are now on par with other platforms and most keyboard shortcuts are now correct. This is sweet :-)

Everyone who hasn't downloaded the new version yet is in for a great surprise.

The only major bug that is still evident is the one about missing/disappearing caret.

Prog.

sorta got it working....

i was mucking around making icons for MozFirebird (still in progress, touching them up) and then the caffeine kicked in...

in tracker do:
MozillaFirebird-bin -> Addon -> file type

here's the information i entered:

Signature: `application/x-vnd.Web' (listed under the drop down list in Preferences/File Type [not tracker-> addon->file type])

X'd Application Flags as Single Launch

Supported Types: --everything Net+ has. (can be found by Net+ -> addon -> filetype in tracker)

Version info: 2003-08-04

Saved that, closed File Types.

went to FileTypes in Preferences,
text -> html
BAM! MozillaFirebird-bin shows up (at least did for me)

closed that and tested.

my results: MozFB opens links in BeAIM, correct page. double clicking local .html, opens Net+ . :-(

in tracker i then did file.html->addon->filetype, selected MozFirebird-bin. double clicking file.html opens MozFB, but not the file......it's progress at least.

No it won't. The problem is that Mozilla (under BeOS) currently doesn't care about arguments it receives. Which is why it doesn't go to the url you want to open. Someone needs to write some code to get that working. (It's trickier than it sounds.)

See ArgvReceived and RefsRecieved in BeBook's BApplication for more info.

Right click on MozillaFirebird-bin choose Add-Ons>FileType and try adding html under Supported Types, then do what you did previously. It might work.

Perhaps you need to create a signature to, I really don't know????

I don't think it works right now. I want to use this myself, but the current code isn't very well integrated so it can't receive arguments. I know someone started working on it but I don't think it's complete yet. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

It's one of the things + drag'n'drop which I'd love to see finished.

Firebird as default webrowser?

1st, fantastic browser only surpassed by everyone's effort. thank you for it.

back to the Q (hope it's appropriate for here)...
i've been racking my brain the past few days trying to get firebird( 0.6.1_bone, 2003-08-04 from beshare) to register as the `Preferred Application' in File Types, so as to open local .html / links

[i linked *.so and *.stub to my ~/config/lib as seen on betips.net, allowing firebird starts up from the binary.]

now in File Types: the drop down list in Preferred Application doesn't list Firebird. using `Select...' and selecting MozillaFirebird-bin does absolutely nothing. tried selecting it while `None' and `Net+' were selected from the drop down list.

i've also tried highlighting a .html -> addons -> File Type, to see if that would make a difference. it didnt. also tried drag and dropping MozillaFirebird-bin onto the Preferred App section, that didnt work either.

so, anyone got an idea how to do this?

Reliable Way to Reproduce Mouse Scolbar Release Bug

Sergei,
I tried to email you directly but the internet mail server kept returning the message saying it was undeliverable, so I have posted here.
You wanted help with a reliable way to reproduce "mouse is sometimes sticking" bug. I have found that it can be reproduced every time by moving the mouse slightly to the left or the right as the left mouse
button is released as in the case of the right scrollbar. The same thing can be reproduced in bottom scrollbar by moving the mouse slightly up or down as the button is released.
I have reproduced this in the mozilla browser that came with Beos 5.03 PE MaxEdition V3, which is :
Mozilla/5.0 (BeOS; U; BeOS BePC; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030904.
Hope this might be some help.

To clearify, I didn't move them libraries, I created symlinks as you suggested. That way I'm on the safe side for future updates.

Thanks s_d! Creating a lib folder and shoving all .so and so.stub into it was just the ticket! Now it starts happily with the MozillaFirebird-bin binary.
Cool! Thanks once more!

I suspect you should try to run first
firebird shell script onnew machine from Terminal first time. Even if already worked on another machine.
And as usually, in future use link to that shell script, from Desktop or anywhere.
At least until you create in firebird folder lib folder and create simlinks to all firebird *.so -s there

Next suspect is libdl.so, some verisons were build on system with this lib and don't start without it. Maybe it was on your old machine

Oi!

I have the latest Firebird running beautifully on my laptop. Great work!! Everything's configured, every plug-in I need is installed, the bookmarks are sitting well groomed in their settings folder.
Now I want to take the whole beast and transfer it to my other desktop machine. First I delete all folders and setting from older Mozilla/Phoenix/Firebird installations.
With NetPenguin I then ftp the /boot/apps/MozillaFirebird and the /boot/home/settings/Phoenix folder to their exact counterparts on the desktop machine.
It doesn't work. Why?

Executing /boot/apps/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird-bin I get
sh: /boot/apps/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird-bin: Missing library

Executing /boot/apps/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird I get
"Cannot find mozilla runtime directory. Exiting."

Double clicking the binary alerts: "Missing library: libmozjs.so"

Where's my mistake? Thanks!

There is a very nice 0.61 build for BONE, but it's not up on BeBits. It can be found on BeShare.

(Btw, all Firebird BONE-builds I've done are from CVS and not from release-sources)

Seems that my latest build doesn't handle HTTPS connections. So use an older build if you want to do banking and such for now.

Unfortunately i cannot reproduce it here, nor with my personal widget code, neither with current 1.5b build, which also has improved, but is still bit different from mine.

Problems with Alt+key are known for some sites, like bugzilla, where page keys interfere with shortcut keys, but i suspect your case is different

Here's an interesting bug: press Alt-T to get a new tab, which works fine. The cursor focus will be in the URL bar, which is great, and you can type right away. But you cannot press Alt-V and paste. You must click somewhere in the blank tab, then back in the URL bar for paste to work. I actually hit this bug a lot, like when a story mentions an URL but doesn't hyperlink it. I copy the URL, press the shortcut to get a new tab, and then try to copy completely from the keyboard. A minor inconvenience, but annoying.

Pressinig F11 (or selecting fullscreen from the menu) locks Stripzilla completely. Other than that, a very solid release. You've tempeted me to reinstall BONE after all these years. Well worth it. Great work everyone involved, its actually quite usuable.

Sergei, if you can improve Mozilla even more without a splash screen, then go for it. I think noone would say no to an improved version, if it just depends on the splash.

I prefer to get rid of it at all - do we really need it?:)
Btw, need to have splashscreen forced BeZilla developers to put be_app->Run in such place, where it don't allow to do lot of thing properly, IMHO

It really gets better and better...
So it now works almost flawlessly on my PC

One thing i noticed that is still there is this cursor problem...

e.g. If you jump from one input field to another the cursor will not be erased on the first field... and sometimes if you go back by left arrow key it will not be displayed anymore...

Anyway... It sure is really USABLE now (I say for me)

It has so much features like making text larger or smaller by scrollwheel and tabbed browsing ... Hmm great...

Thanx A lot

well the 6MB extra would be in addition to firebird, not in addition to mozilla.

anyways.. I don't even use email in BeOS, I ssh to my linux server and use mutt. I was asking out of curiosity (and enthusiasm cuase I had just spent a day at work using thunderbird, hehee)

No plans, because it is not "native"/compatible - in that it don't use BeOS all-over mail format.
So i don't see need to have here "alien" e-mailer, if you wish to use it though - why don't use Mozilla-suite - it also saves your disk space. Because Thunderbird brings at least 6 MB of exatly same core already presented in Browser.
Anyway, i think if someone still needs that choice - it shoudln't be too hard, maybe just some explicit configure option while building.
And i can provide hosting for Thunderbird binary, if such enthousiast appears.

Yeah icewarp, that's how it started.. And then the developer got carried away ;)and decided to include everything (woohoo!), which was good cause it worked better than stock bezilla anyway.

Then for a while there was stripzilla and stripzilla-justBrowser.

And now since Firebird is going to become the next mozilla browser anyway, there's no need for the JustBrowser version, use Firebird. It's better than Mozilla Navigator anyway :)

Stripzilla used to be a browser only version of mozilla (without email, etc.). Now this stripzilla seems to be a full Mozilla port (with all the addons).
What happened to the sinlge Stripzilla ?
