i got myself a Lucent winmodem PCI (CW56LU-PCI) and surprise (i was not expecting anything) it work great.

In case you want a cheap one (at least in Canada) i got it from a SEANIX celeron computer circa 2000. So if you know a friend that have that you might ask him to swap is winmodem with your uncompatable one.

BIG thanx to you Daniele!!

Here is some random PCB and chip number in case you want to know in advance if the modem might work:

request for added support

to the author,

your winmodem guide coupled with your modem driver was a very great effort to write drivers for such "dreaded" winwodems (as they say). since you're on the verge of creating drivers for some unsupported or new modems how about adding to your list the support for conexant hsf softmodems (14F1:2014), it would be greatly appreciated and make a lot of users happy especially those who can not shell out for an extra hardware modem, that it would be included in your next release of this wonderful modem driver of yours. keep up the good work, hoping for the request to be added, thank you!

TP Modem is not a 'modem'

The TP modem that the 600 has is not a 'modem' - thats why even XP has a special "ThinkPad Modem Tools". Its an mwave2 soundcard based modem

There are Linux drivers for it, but they are damn complex and probably unportable.

All hardware modems should work fine - they all use the same hayes AT command set. I think the safest bet is a serial port one (I think some of the new USB ones are not actually hardware-based).

Some internal modems will work, but most of these now are software-based winmodems. If you have a Lucent winmodem you may be lucky, but otherwise your best bet is an external serial modem. Even if it isn't listed in the modem list, a generic->AT will usually work fine anyway.

I'm using a Creative Labs v.92 56k external serial, with the generic->AT modem selected. Works fine.

BeFan, I have installed 2 internal pci modems in different boxen relatively recently, and they work perfectly. You just need to follow the guide mentioned earlier in the comments. BTW, both modems are USRobotics 56K v.92 *with* controller, not winmodems.

I bought recently a new PC without modem and if I am right, BeOS 5 needs an external modem (these are my first steps using BeOS). Would anybody give some advice (from personal experience) which modems work fine with BeOS, so I can order this model? Thank you!

It shows up serial1 and it don't work.
There is another thing : there are many lt win modems with the same reference but with numbers :
-lt win modem v90 1
-lt win modem v90 2
...
why ?

hmm.. seems like a fix...

Not certain, but heard this will work..

Open Devices in BeOS
Open the modem info (may show up as Serial Port)
copy all the info
add a new jumpered device using the info from above
(Ignore the conflict)
restart the computer
You should now be able to select a different serial port, like serial 3 or 4 or 5...

Select that port, and appropriate driver, and see how it goes.. this should work for everyone.

I've got the book but it says at the top that it is for the PCI win modems.
Is there any idea how to get work an isa one.
For information, I have LT Win Modem in the ISA devices.
I tested all the drivers given in the package (Lucent) without any solution.
thanks.

support for Rockwell (Aztech) MDP 3858-WE

I've tried to dial up with my modem Rockwell (Aztech) MDP 3858-WE but I don't even hear a relais click (wich I do hear when I do this with windows). I tried all of the Generic Rockwell drivers, but it didn't help.
Does support for this modem exist, or do I need to try other drivers?
