Hi Stan,
I suppose the mail cache has gotten out of sync with the mails on your disk. Please right-click the 'in'-folder and select 'Recreate Cache' - that should cause those messages to disappear.

Please help. How can I get rid of them?

Hi Stan,
'Tofu' in Beam is what other mail clients often call 'ham', i.e. a proper e-mail (the opposite of SPAM).
So if you tell Beam to learn a mail as TOFU, it will be learnt as a proper mail (the SPAM-filter's database will be adjusted accordingly) and this mail will be moved into the 'in' folder.
If you learn any message as SPAM, Beam will scan this mail's content for relevant words and store those as SPAM indicators into the SPAM-filter's database. Additionally, this mail will be marked as read and moved into the 'spam' folder.
The aim of all this business is to train the SPAM-filter to autodetect future SPAM-mails automatically and move those into the spam folder directly upon receival (so they do not distract you from the important stuff).
Without the user telling Beam which mail he/she/it considers SPAM, the SPAM-filter would not know what to do. Judging from my tests, it should pick up your drift pretty fast, i.e. after 10 or so learnings, the SPAM filter should show pretty good results already.
cheers,
Oliver

Hi! I tried to configure a Yahoo account, but I can't. I think is because Beam don't have an option to configure a SSL connection... Anyone has the same problem ?
(besides that, I can configure the account in BeMail without problems).

nicnac: as it turns out, MrPeeps work perfectly. I had an old version of it sitting on my desk, which was why I could reproduce the error. If you install MrPeeos-1.1 and remove any old version it just works as it should (directly and from within Beam).

It is most likely is a bug in Mr. Peeps! E-mail me privately with what version you're using and I'll work with you to fix the problem. :)

Hi nicnac,
I suppose that "the relation with people doesn't work" means that when you click on 'Edit Address' (or 'Import & Edit Address') Mr.Peeps does come up but it doesn't navigate to the chosen address. If that's the problem you are seeing, I'm afraid I'll have to pass the bucket to the author of Mr.Peeps: I have just tried clicking on a People file and Mr.Peeps behaves the same (it opens, but doesn't show the specific person).
I think that's a bug in Mr.Peeps...
cheers,
Oliver

This error can mean two things:
1)you are trying to start on older version of Beam after you have
used the current version (starting a current version will update
the structure of the config files such that the older versions can't
read them anymore)
2)something went wrong and the 'Identities' config file is broken
If you think it's choice 2, then please send me your 'Identities' file (it doesn't contain any secret data) and I will check it out.
cheers, Oliver

There's no need to backup your mails, Beam doesn't change them. You can just install Beam over older versions and things should work fine.

You can get Beam to do that by doing this:
- ensure that in Beam's 'General Settings' prefs page, the
option 'Beep when new mail arrives' is active
- select a sound for the system sound event 'New E-Mail'
(Preferences/Sounds)
That should do it.
cheers,
Oliver

I've finally switched from Mail-It to Beam. I'm sorry I didn't do it a long time ago. Beam is great. But there is a feature in Mail-It that I like -- I can set it up to play a sound when I have new mail. Can that be done somehow in Beam?

Yes, preview & pdf printers work.
The problem is with the BinkJet Print Dialog window. If I leave the Page Range = All (default setting), I get no print job.
But if I set Page Range manually, say, from 1 to 1 or 1 to any number, I get printing.
This quirk might be just my installation.

Have you tried making the preview-printer default and try with that one (or the PDF-Printer available from BeBits)?
Does printing work from other apps?

You can't do that currently.
You have to manually open each pending message (via doubleclick) and then press send.
This, of course, is another feature that will be present in the next release.

Sorry, but this feature is not yet available.
In the next version the outgoing filters will actually work, so you could use mail-filtering in order to have sent mails automatically be filed into a different folder.

I want to say thanks a lot for the PPC version too. On BeOS PPC, a devent mailer really was missing. I think I will switch to Beam on my x86 PC too, after using MailIt for years now (no other client convinced me to switch). Beam has become my favourite mail client.
Thanks again!

I had similar "problem". If You reinstalled BeOS and loaded backuped people files than You have to reindex them (their attributes).
Download great application by Axel from http://www.bebits.com/app/2033 and run it from terminal ("reindex -rvf /boot" IIRC) - that should remove the problem :).

Thanks for the hard work you've done on Beam - it is easily my favorite BeOS mailer.
I do, however, have a problem with the 1.0 version: only a single person (the first one) from my list of people in /home/people appears in the various popup menus such as "To:". I am running the non-Beam version of Beam on Beos Max v2.1. I have 104 people in my people folder.
Again, thank you!

But please *never* spread a mailbox across devices, that is a Bad Idea (TM)!
