1. The shell script should ask you what to do with the original deskbar file. Re-naming?
A: the install script isn't very effective :P (yet)
2. I'd like the option to reverse the clicking functions for changing workspaces ie. right click goes up instead of down.
A: yes, some people are asking this so ill add it in the next releases
3. Bring here, bring all here, bring to front, hide, close, hide all, close all, show all? aren't we beginning to loose simplicity here. Feature creep.
A: i think i'll make a "simple" and a "advanced" options for menus
4. I'd like to see dockbert with a 3d edge so that it looks like a tile or something.
A: i just didnt do this yet
5. I can't open a second or third net+ window from dockbert like I can with deskbar. It just takes me to the existing window or cycles. I love the cycling but miss this ability.
A: yes you can, SHIFT+click the icon (this functionality will also be configurable)
6. I prefer Deskbar's bubble/pop-up (see networking icon). No shadow, no bold font.
A: Daniel also told me configurable bubbles would be nice.. but i like these ones.. eheh
7. Greyed-out, faded icons look ugly on a menu in my opinion.
A: i dont really get your point here :)
8. The 'close' glyph(is that the right word?) looks OK but the others(hide and bring) don't have transparent backgrounds. You can tell when they're selected.
A: yes.. doing alpha blending on icons by hand is boring.. but ill do it ASAP
And i like all kinds of feedback, as long as people feedback :P
About the bug of dockbert listing servers, it will be fixed for build 106

First of all, let me say this works great. This is the build I've been waiting for, and the cycling windows is the feature I've been waiting for. I've been asking for it in OpenTracker for months, and they told me it couldn't be done.
Past that, there are only two things I've had a problem with. One is of course the mail_daemon. But you knew that already.
Secondly, sometimes Dockbert seems to get upset with removing the center tab (the one that contains NetPositive on first launch). Of course now that I'm typing about it it's not doing it, but two or three times in a row when I deleted the center tab and then launched Mozilla, Dockbert would crash. Perhaps this is a Mozilla thing rather than a Dockbert thing.
Keep up the good work! If Apple is smart, someday this is how the OS X Dock will look!

I like the window cycling, but it only seems to work on windows that aren't minimized. Didn't a previous Dockbert reveal hidden windows (without cycling)? Can you implement the window cycling so that it will go through even hidden windows?

the problem is that you only have icons up to 32x32.. and rendering those in higher sizes would give a lot of artifact.. in case of the fonts, dockbert uses your default font.. so.. its the same as all other programs :)

Very nice, but I wish it could be improved for people running at a resolution of 1600 x 1200.
BeOS isn't very nice to this resolution to begin with, but it would be nice if there were "large icons" & "large text" options that would make it much more readable at this resolution.
I don't know if a lot of people use 1600 x 1200, but even those that don't may like larger text and icons.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if there was a "floating" option that would make a handle appear and allow you to place it anywhere - but then it wouldn't be a dock then ;-)
Thanks for all the hard work, it seems to be improving very quickly!

I like the potential of this Dockbert thing.
A Couple of Suggestions.
1) Allow it to "snap" to the left or right side of the screen. I really don't like it sitting on the center of the bottom edge. It feels too MacOS-like and not enough BeOS-like.
2) Allow the user to select small icons. I personally like to have as much viewable desktop as possible. I like how it behaves like the old "twitcher" but I'd rather have smaller icons.
Otherwise very cool app, once all of its features get implemented it will be extra cool.

thanks for all your sugestions!
items will be able to be individualy configured and the blending effect will be configurable.
the items in the bemenu will be items in the bemenu icon and not be a full submenu like it is now.
transparency will be an hard achivement since it has to be made using some transparency hacks.. maybe ill work at it..
and in the future i'll support system fonts better :-P
Updates are frequent because i think people should have access every new feature i include or fix.. i have no competition with mariux :)
about the "lost" items, to add the be menu just drag /boot/home/config/be/ to dockbert to create one, write "clock" in styledit, select it and drag it to dockbert to create a clock, samething for the workspaces icon ("workspaces") and the showdesktop icon ("showdesktop")
Replicant support will be avaiable soon, but not for 1.0

Excellent app! It fixes almost all of the gripes I had with Deskbar.
Some suggestions:
- prefs for individual dockbert items, letting you set them as either application (click opens them) or menus (click displays them as a menu). This would only really apply to folders, though.
- turn down the fading on non-running app icons a little. Some icons are currently pretty hard to make out, like CD Manager and FlipSide A.E.
- any possibility on making the background for the tabs a transparent colour? I realise that non-rectangular UIs are near impssible in R5, but that would be a decent substitute.
- The Be Menu shouldn't be a sub-menu of the be menu... this seems a little redundant.
- honouring system font sizes or having an independant font setting would be nice.
Anyway, very impressive program! And it's great to see that the updates are so frequent - are you and the WorkstationLock guy having a competition? :)

I'll just do a little reply to your sugestions
Q: - Multiple Trash Icons
Since the trash is on the dock, it seems kind of redundant to have it on the desktop. Hide the trash on the desktop
A: AFAIK i can only hide the tracker's trash icon by providing a different tracker binary (compiled from a modified source), so, i don't think this is will be done in the near future.
Q: - Drag and Drop
The ability to remove the short cuts by drag and dropping them into the trash. Re-ordering by drag and drop.
A: with RC4 you can easily drag an item and drop it anywhere in the dock to reorder it
Q: - Desktray (replicant shelf)
Icons normally kept in the desktray are not displayed. Place the replicants at the start of the tabs.
A: this won't be avaiable to version 1.0 since some major deskbar internal changes must be done, but i'm working in it
Q: - Workspaces
Some means of moving open windows between workspaces. Perhaps an option on the workspace switcher icon. Ctrl + clicking on the icon could list the open window with options on a submenu to direct a window to another workspace.
A: i would also like to have the items "bring this window here" and "bring all windows here" in the applications menu, but i haven't figured out yet how to make windows switch workspaces, as soon as i do this will be implemented (together with the menu items i would like)
Q: - Switching Applications
Presently clicking on an application icon brings that app to the front. It would be useful if repeated clicks on an application icon would allow users to cycle through that application's open windows.
A: being worked on
Q: - Customisation
Some means of allowing the users to customise the appearance of the dock. The ordering of the tabs. Perhaps even the contents of menus (system commands like shutdown and reboot for example).
A: if you had read the readme you would know that you can rearrange tabs using SHIFT+drag the tab ;)
Q: - Docklings
The ability to have more than one dock. The main dock and other child 'Docklings'. The docklings could be used anchor points for monitoring (as the Desktray is now used for), or for shortcuts. These docklings could share the main dock's behaviour (auto-hide, icon resize).
A: i also want this, but again, wont be avaiable to version 1.0
Other stuff:
I like your ideas, but i think you are missing one dockbert concept, you can create new tabs and organize your shortcuts in the various tabs as you wish, only the running application tab is "fixed" in the sense that no other icons can be add to it, all other tabs can have other items. just read the readme for further instructions (right now most of the commands are in the Changes section as i only documented them there, version 1.0 will have some nice docs that BeFrank is writing for us )

> 1. Trash icon looks like a folder to me. Use Trash Icon :)
- sometimes on fresh dockbert installs in R5 the trash icon isnt there until dockbert is run by the second time, i have to look at this
> 2. Make menus behave as toggle (if I click again in the same > place, like on the icon, the menu that opened
> should then close).
- well, the way the menus behave is part of the standard beos menu behaviour.. but i'll see if i can do something about it
> 3. I would rather have the Be Menu item/icon behave just like the actual Be Menu on the Deskbar. Give us the
menu instead of the window on a normal click. Put all the standard items on there, instead of having "Shutdown"
and "restart" and "about BeOS" on your Dockbert menu. Make the Dockbert menu equal the Tracker menu on
the normal Deskbar. Put the "open the window" behavior on the secondary-click.
- i'll consider this
> 4. When clicking on the Time to change to date, it has a delay, unlike the normal Deskbar's clock. The normal
Deskbar is instantly changed on click.
- actually, the clock in dockbert behaves exactly as the deskbar window's one, but i can change it to re-render exactly when a setting is changed
> 5. Show "drag targets" for the moving of objects on the Dock.
- this was missing, i hope it will be ready for 1.0
> 6. Allow dragging of icons to the Trash and/or to the Dockbert Trash to remove them (all items if need be).
- nice sugestion here, but would just work by dragging to the trash in dockbert
> 7. I'd like to remove the Workspaces icon. I just don't need it.
- to remove any icon just CTRL+click it
> BTW: nice animation effects. Much more sensible than MacOSX.
- more animations and effects should be avaiable soon as well :-P

I like Dockbert. I don't think I would adopt it permanantly until it reaches the point where it does everything Deskbar does.
Here are some suggestions from my experience with it today:
1. Trash icon looks like a folder to me. Use Trash Icon :)
2. Make menus behave as toggle (if I click again in the same place, like on the icon, the menu that opened should then close).
3. I would rather have the Be Menu item/icon behave just like the actual Be Menu on the Deskbar. Give us the menu instead of the window on a normal click. Put all the standard items on there, instead of having "Shutdown" and "restart" and "about BeOS" on your Dockbert menu. Make the Dockbert menu equal the Tracker menu on the normal Deskbar. Put the "open the window" behavior on the secondary-click.
4. When clicking on the Time to change to date, it has a delay, unlike the normal Deskbar's clock. The normal Deskbar is instantly changed on click.
5. Show "drag targets" for the moving of objects on the Dock.
6. Allow dragging of icons to the Trash and/or to the Dockbert Trash to remove them (all items if need be).
7. I'd like to remove the Workspaces icon. I just don't need it.
BTW: nice animation effects. Much more sensible than MacOSX.
I'll keep checking out this neat application, watching as it evolves. Good luck :)

Well, RC2's uses the menus that were removed in RC3 due to its bugs and lack of features (e.g. the menus can grow to out of the screen), so, if i were you i would stick with the latest version.. unfortunely it doesn't include the transparent menus yet.

I like the transparancies of RC2. Although I'd like to be able to adjust the alpha. Palm Reflection doesn't work with Dockbert for some reason. Also large menus fall off the screen and are not scollable.
Other than that it's very stable and usable.

Hi again linn...
Well, my thinking was that if people wanted to use Dockbert, they'd use it. If people wanted Deskbar, they could use OpenDeskbar. A version combining both DockBert and Deskbar like you are doing now would still be possible, but I'd bet money that the majority of users would use Dockbert only.
Just my two cents. =)

Once I can put the mail_daemon in there, I'll be ready to ditch the Deskbar.
One thing I LOVE is the fact that clicking the icon of a running app will bring up the last open window for that app. Is there any way to extend this so if you continue clicking, it will cycle through all open windows for that app? I've been suggesting this forever for the Deskbar.

Now see this _possible_ (doesn't mean that will be the future) scenario: dockbert's sources are accepted into the deskbar's source and what do you get? you will be able to decide wether you want dockbert, the standard deskbar, or even both. some people don't like dockbert, one of them even posted here. in my point of view dockbert works _as_ a deskbar would, just like you said, but some people might prefer the old deskbar interface, that's why it is there.
oh btw, had a random bug(?) in my box running dockbert, really awkard, but never saw it again, maybe it was a beos flip, but if you experience anything awkard using dockbert please tell me.
