MP3

Dunno if SS uses BeOS media kit and system codecs, but if it does, you need BeOS PRO. BeOS PE/MAX/DevEd (may)lack mp3 codec due licensing issues

MP3 !!!!

put them in /boot/home/config/add-ons/media/vstplugins, until they can get modifying unstuck. Also- it doesn't exit totally clean here.

How do I add and use the vst plugins?

Thanks

Good to see you back!I Really needed this now that I have BeOS running on my Thinkpad 600E laptop, because it does not support recording from the line out in BeOS(internally or externally)like the soundblaster live does on my desktop PC,I had been using SoundPlay to add Vst FX to samples and re-recording the line output internally with SoundRecorder, but as I said this won't work on the Laptop so I was stuck with @ options, use the limited effects of the old SampleStudio, and 3dmiX,or reboot to WinDoze and use the DirectX effects there.
Now I can do so much more in my platform of choice!!! Thanks Again!!!!! Keep it Coming!!!You have made my week!!!

Great job... Mp3s load fine now... even though it takes a hell of a lot of memory and is slow.

Really great work. Nice work on the Bass boost effect too.

Keep up the good work.

THANKS !!!!!

MP3's
 By Frans van Nispen - Posted on August 21, 2002 - 01:40:44   (#2771)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.0 Beta 2.0
MP3's load perfectly on my system. Even the ones that crash the app before.

Only thing is the peak-file (indexing) takes about 8% more memory and I cash some graphics for speed.

SO I think you having a memory problem. I am working on a virtual memory system now to be able to edit files up to 8Gb with little memory usage.

VST2 will be supported as native plug-in format, though DXi will never be supported on BeOS !

What happened?
 By Ram - Posted on August 19, 2002 - 08:44:39   (#2728)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.0 Beta 2.0
The last 2 betas are not able to load Mp3s :)

Is this a problem with SampleStudio or BeOS (the indexing stage crashes the app) ?

Anyway, I still am living with the older beta version which works. Though i don't edit mp3s much it would be really handy for clipping. And how about "Volume increase/decrease" in the next version? :)

Nice app, keep up the good work.

Sounds good!

Hello Franz, this looks promising.

I haven't yet tried the very latest beta, although I've used every other previous beta.

Apart from being able to edit huge files, there are some things I would like to see:

1. user has option to work with different resolutions inernally eg. 32-bit int, 32-bit float, 64-bit float etc.

2. support for VST and DXi plugins without having to recompile them for BeOS. Ideally, some wrapper functions could be developed. Imagine being able to use commercial noise-reduction plugins from SonicFoundry and Steinberg!
Steinberg seems to have a VST SDK for BeOS.

3. being able to navigate to most-used functions using the keyboard.
The mouse while good for beginners, is just too darn slow, when you are playing and recording more than one track simultaneously and creating effects in real-time.

If this keeps improving, I'll definitely buy it.
After having to fork out for Wavelab, and almost having to by SoundForge, the cost of this program will be small change in comparison!

Memory usage
 By Frans van Nispen - Posted on August 19, 2002 - 02:25:55   (#2726)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.0 Beta 2.0
HI, the indexing only takes up 7.8% of the file you loaded. The nasty thing is SampleStudio Baisc loads all in memory.

I have started the development of the more advanced version today, with Vitual Memory, so you can edit tracks up to 8Gb per channel (unpacked 32bits).

In a few weeks, there will be the first commercial beta available, and your memory problems will be over.

Lot of RAM ....

Hey, the last beta work more speed, the indexing take all memory (i have 360Mb and PIII 800 !!!) and that's very very slow than the last beta ;(((

I like this app, but not the last beta ;((

Man I was hoping for bugs... mainly Spiders & Ants. I love those guys... but now you say no bugs! Dude I don't want to pay good money for a product that don't have a furry little pet!!! I mean who better to be second engineer in the studio then a nice big furry spider! & a powerfull Ant to carry around all the gear!!! you can't take away our right to BUG'S!!! ;)

This is not a bug of SampleStudio, but rather in your mp3 decoder. It seems not to be 100% compliant.

We will add our own importers in the future as there are more problems with the Be MediaKit regarding loading, and Be never released the API.

Frans van Nispen.

after the file is loaded, samplestudio crashes in the destructor of a "mpeg-loader-class" (before indexing).

Ram -- Mp3 loading problem
 By Ram - Posted on June 27, 2002 - 10:46:57   (#1976)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.0 Beta 1.5
Hmm.. is it only me?

The previous version of SampleStudio loaded large mp3s quite well, but not this version. It loads the mp3 fully into memory, then pops an alert saying "out of memory" (or something to that effect). Then after clicking OK, it shows an "Indexing" progress, immediately after which it crashes.

I have 128 MB RAM with 192 MB swap file. I don't think i need more since the previous version worked with mp3s even of size 5 mb while this one doesn't with mp3s of size around 2 MB.

Apart from this, is there a way to reduce the volume of the mp3 sample using SampleStudio? the latest has things like Reverb, room, etc. i couldn't find any thing about volume..

Very nice app so far. I'm using the previous version till the latest one works on my sys :) Nice app

Very GREAT app.....

Skinning

Hi, I read that many of you'd like the abbility of skinning / theming.

As of this, I will leave the graphics as bitmaps. If further features are required, please send me a mail.

Frans van Nispen.

oh right

I re-read your post :) sorry
but I'm sure that the bitmaps will be stored as resources, if that's the case, themeing will be possible, and even easier.

SampleStudio allready offers the ability of themeing, but no skinning. The graphics are all located in the ./Bitmaps folder and you can change them to whatever you want. Still no skins, but themes are enough to satisfy most users.

I know what your thinking

No Skins...

Not shi app wont be skinable but color control & a variation on look will be availible. The graphics will be embedded in the application when it is done so external graphic i.e. skins will not be an option.

Also, do I sense this app is going to be skinnable :)

Yup marcone, this is what I thought too when trying SampleStudio. Something like a "Direct File edit mode" (so that the file is not loaded into RAM) is badly needed. I sometimes have wav-files up to 4hours, try to push that in your Ram ;-)
