You'll need an Athlon XP patch to run BeOS on that machine:

I'm not sure if the installer works on Haiku, but Opera certainly does.
I installed it to Haiku by copying it from my BeOS R5 machine to my Haiku partition.
|
|
| Don't run in Haiku yet :( |

After downloading opera-bla-bla.bin file, open a terminal screen and go Downloads folder.
$ cd /Downloads
when you type dir command, you'll see :
opera-bla-bla.bin*
this means the file is an executable.
just write the name and click enter.
$ opera-bla-bla.bin
that's it! :)

This is a beta version, plain and simple. The bugs are reduced in frequency from the Release Candidate due to the removal of debugging code (I believe), but there are very few bug fixes to speak of.
Image rendering fails or malfunctions for large images and for many images on a page.
It crashes...a lot.
It is slow...the slogan of the browser (the fastest web browser...) is definitely not applicable here (rendering, mouse wheel scrolling, etc.)
It slows down other programs.
It has to reload the while page whenever a small change is made, like right clicking on an image that wasn't loaded and having it load it.
And others.

Finally, a solid, reliable browser with javascript and plugins. With the General Coffee flash plugin even Joe Cartoon works. :) They seem to have resolved most of the crashing bugs from the previous version, and cleaned up the interface beautifully.
If only their upgrade web page worked I'd own my copy already. :)

Although I like the look and speed of Opera, it keeps crashing, and crashing. I found navigating the Internet to be confusing and sometimes impossible without closing and then restarting the program. Often, I would enter the address of a new site, only to get sent back to where I started from. Also, I found the pull-down menu for bookmarked websites a pain. Every time I reached a category with a large sub-list of sites, the new list would block the origional pull down menu, making it useless. Perhaps if I had more time to figure Opera out, I'd be happier with it. But, I prefer programs that are intuitive. One of the nice things about the BeOS is the ease of use. Opera seems to go against this trait.
