Hi, Niklas.
You need to run mICQ from Terminal.

Installing micq ok, then startup micq misses libiconv.so, got it and install it but now it hangs up and seems to use a lot of cpu. Is there anyone who can help me to search in the right direction?

A port of GAIM is not very likely. It uses GTK2 now, AFAIK, and BeOS doesn't even have a native GTK1 port. It *MAY BE* possible to use some of the GAIM code (ie, the parts that actually do the networking stuff and protocol information), but I have neither the knowledge nor motivation to try this. Don't hold your breath, basically. GAIM would be a lot of work, and there are very few "free" devs in BeOS-land atm.

I saw some of the posts regarding ICQ and I thought that someone might be willing to try to create a program that will allow BeOS users to use GAIM. If you haven't used it, they I would advise you to try it-I think you would like it (especially for Linux). If BeOS had this..it would be fantastic, in my opinion.

Hi,
I'm trying to run mICQ with BONE, but i didn't compile it.
It logs ok, but after some time it keeps giving me a lot of messages like the follow:
FIXME: meta reply ref 40d00 not found.
FIXME: meta reply ref 504bc not found.
FIXME: meta reply ref 504bc not found.
FIXME: meta reply ref 504bc not found.
FIXME: meta reply ref 63691 not found.
Any ideas?
Thx,
François

Here's a compiled binary for you:

I compiled it on BeOS 5.03 Pro (netserver). Run it from the terminal.

I have a critical note for you as well. The brain surgery you took didn't really help. The last brain cells left are trying desperately to flee.
Seriously, though, I post this app as a courtesy to those half dozen BeOS users that are still left. mICQ is a POSIX app - if BeOS would be a POSIX OS, it would compile and just work. However, BeOS isn't. I already went far than anyone could expect me to go. I installed a OS I do not otherwise use except for compiling, and tweaked the stuff to make it reasonably work. See the screen shot. I even created a nice package for it. However, I can't finish the rough edges left - I need assistance from a BeOS developer for that. The apps page says that in big friendly letters. However, nobody has volunteered yet. Even more, no BeOS user has ever spoken up on the mICQ mailing list. So don't expect me to work miracles. Thank you.
To the person who wants a SKELETON version: I don't have SKELETONS in my closet. Since there is no legal way to obtain SKELETONS, I can't make one. However, whoever has SKELETONS in his closet is a developer and thus able to compile himself.
Oh, and somebody please help the guy with the installer problem. I did download R5 and created the installer with it and checked it, so since I'm not using BeOS otherwise I can't help him. He hasn't come up with his problem on the mICQ mailing list, though. Oh, and by the way: I do have a working email address. In opposite to some other people.

I am sorry but have some critical note. Why are you posting an app if it doesn't work on BeOS? I have seen a lot of apps that are not workingor have so many bugs it is not workable at all. I love the BeOS but with half made apps we are not getting there. Hopefully Zeta will be filled with all we need, java, flash and a good icq, msn, aol client.

I haven´t tested this version yet, but if it supports filetransfers ( as it says) it´s really cool.
Is it possible to code an GUI for mICQ perhaps?

You're an asshole, mICQ _does_ support the new protocol, and the program description clearly states that!

AOL/Mirabilis changed protocol for ICQ 2 years ago and seems decreasing support for obsolete protocol.
so both mICQ and ICBM needs rewrite.
Up-to-date version of GimICQ with new protocol support you can get from procton.complexero.com

I apologize about my half-rant in my previous post. One can understand a lot of frustration arising from trying to use programmed applications that seem to require some major programming knowledge. For the MICQ problem of compiling, it will run the configure just fine. However running 'make' will eventually yield the error that it can't find the arpa/inet.h file. In trying to compile another C program under BeOS that uses that file, I ran into that problem, and simply installing the package that contains those headers will not fix it. BONE is neither a good option as there are not many people who have it and it's nary possible to find a good downloadable source. If you would like to contact me further as a betatester for this program, feel free to do so. I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can to make this work better with BeOS. Thank you.

Look, mICQ is portable. It doesn't use any system dependent stuff. Someone made an earlier version work with BeOS; I couldn't check whether this version still actually works as I don't have BeOS. So I also can't provide binaries. Someone complained it wouldn't find gethostbyname(); I don't know how to archieve the same functionality on BeOS. You complain about a build failure; but you don't tell me what exactly fails, so I could fix it. Posting it on a BeOS site is the only way to get in touch with developers who can fix remaining problems. I can't without any feedback.

is it possble to compile a netserver version and put that on bebits ?

Okay, this thing is running configure but will not run prepare like it's supposed to do. After simply running 'make' it ends the compilation sequence with an error saying there is a missing file. If this is supposed to be for BeOS, make clear documentation on what one needs to do to make this. Do not make the instructions so generic and/or Linux-geared. Please remember this is a BeOS software site and it would be appreciated if you included a precompiled binary or better instructions for those of us who use BeOS, which is why we visit this site in the first place.
