I tried again to create a 2GB virtual image, but this time on a bfs volume (instead of a FAT32 partition) and it mounted just fine !

I always had BAD crashes/lock-ups while working with mounted images, IIRC related to Tracker too (less problems from Terminal).

Thos problems went away when I stop mounting images with this tool :-/

I seem to be able to mount my 2gb bfs image in the terminal, but it seems to crash the Tracker / Deskbar.

Any ideas?

newer haiku images

Hey, I can mount older haiku.image files from August, but when I try the new ones that come out every six hours nowadays, ImageMounter says "invalid argument". What's going on?

Thanks,
Kev

Nice to see an update. I use this tool and it's very handy! Thanks!

Has this update been brought to us via friendly competition with Axel's mount tool? ;-)

ImageMounter does support raw disk images, only. It can mount exactly the same file system types as you can mount using the Tracker->Mount command.

Does ImageMounter support Mac DMG and IMG files?

If not, is such support planned?

re:ISO images

IIRC ISO images are read only, so you can't mount them and edit them. If you want to edit the contents, you can create a new folder(on a local HD), the drag the contents of the iso into it. Then you can make alterations to the folder, then use mkhybrid to make a iso9660 image out of the folder, then burn that image. e.g.

mkhybrid -o myiso.img -V MovieCD -J -r -h /path/to/files
sync
mkdir /MovieCD
mount -t iso9660 myiso.img /MovieCD

How to on Wiki GREAT, however...

The how to on wiki is great and I hope more and more are made. I just don't understand all what can be done. Can I mount an ISO just like a bfs and edit/change/delete/modify and then burn it back to a CD?

Mini-howto & That Bug

Please Maurice, fix that bug that Shard described, with ImageMounter unable to mount more than one image at a time, just set the mount point as the filename of the image or put some checking in place please. So silly.
Also, I wrote this mini-howto to make this app easier to use for every one:

http://wiki.bebits.com/page/ImageMountingMadeEasy

-misza

A bit more explaination for me please.

What I guess is that one can take an image of a CD or whatever and copy it to a BFS. From there I can EDIT it and/or use it like any file?
If so then, Wow, what a great way to fix my Pro install CD to work with Athlon's and add the updates and new apps. I have a beia image that I wanted to peek into too.

There is a bug

After i mount some image, and than mount another, i cannot unmount first one.
I don't think that "/ImageMounter-mountpoint" is a good idea. better to mount images under their name, so "cdrom.iso" would be "/cdrom.iso". And if there is one already mount it under "/cdrom.iso2" or something like that.

really handy tool

I used to mount image files from the command line or with other apps that supported them I waited for a nifty little program like this for a long time. Works like a charm.

ah goodie
