Cant have USB enabled in bios?

Hello i have a P4 HyperThreading 3.0GHz on a motherboard with intel I875 chipset, a radeon 9700, a sata disk, a pata disk(this is where beos is installed).

And i cant use this driver if USB support is disabled completly from bios.

What does this driver have to do with USB ? and why isnt it working. When i use Vesa it works right away.

No you haven't FW enabled. Your chipset/graphics card only supports AGP 2x, whereas FW was introduced with AGP 4x.

Ooops...

All these problems stem from wrong signal routing (at least it looks like this). Currently, I'm rewriting the signal routing code hoping to fix these issues. Please give me some time until I have a stable state again.

I added this card to the list, so it _should_ work, but obviously it doesn't. I reckon that the BIOS signature is still wrong, so I would need a syslog for verification and your graphics BIOS for the signature.

I tried the new ATI Radeon Driver ver.5.0.
Everything is working, atleast i can enable/disable all options in the screen preferences panel without crashing the system. FW still dont work here...

As you know i use the radeon 8500 (64Mb Sgram).
I have to monitor out 1 normal and the other with DVI connector and a adapter for it.
I have a svhs out as well. Just for info...
The full syslog see down...

Did you by chance redefine the Mobility Radeon 9600 card ID 0x4e50 as a M10 in this release?

I ask that because I haven't been able to get a screen, the system hangs after the boot screen. It appears to hang at the detection of the video card, since I can get into a fail-safe color mode through the loader. FOr some odd reason, I cannot get syslog to keep track of the process of the booting.

The same result occurs regardless of whether or not I use a external monitor.

Thank you for working on the driver for people like me.

7500 Dual Display

Hello,

Great work on this driver.

With this new version I can boot with both monitors plugged in and turned on and now the display mirrors. With previous versions I would get the BeOS splash screen and then after that the monitors would stay black and nothing else would happen. I was able to reboot with CTRL+ALT+DEL but the same thing would happen.

Now that I can have both of them plugged in I can't seem to get combine displays to work. If I change it to Horizontal and click apply then both screens still show the same thing. However I can that it has stretched the screen to the size of two monitors because the time and deskbar replicants are no longer visible, and my wallpaper is centered and it shifts so that only half of it is visible.

Also I took a screen shot and then looked at it with combine turned off and it looks right. It's just that with combine turned on, both monitors show the left side, (or the right side it I say yes to "swap" displays")

Keep up the good work though.

-Sam

Hm - this is strange. According to XFree86, your chip (it is has the PCI ID 514d, hasn't it?) is a r200. But, according to the documentation I have, the r200 has no built-in TV-Out unit, i.e. you would need a Rage Theatre for TV-Out. If you connect your card to the TV-set during boot, do you get a valid TV-signal during boot? If this is the case, I would like to have the BIOS of your graphics card (GetBIOS.zip is part of the source package), so I can have a look.

Thank you.

About AGP
 By topical - Posted on July 27, 2004 - 16:01:38   (#13608)
Current version when comment was posted: 5.0
About the speed decrease e.g. in the case of zittergie: I suspect the AGP bus_manager is the reason, so please try removing it. To make it short: with the state of AGP support given, you gain only speed with the AGP bus_manager if FastWrites are enabled. Problem is: if they are enabled, the system gets often unstable. So, I asked Rudolf to disable them by default. This makes the system stable, but effectively makes the AGP bus_manager useless in the current state. Even worse: it seems that on some systems, the BIOS enables them by default (and I reckon that the BIOS only does that if it's safe, but I haven't yet gathered information about that), but the AGP bus_manager disables them (because it cannot know that they are safe with your motherboard/graphics card combination).

To summarize it: only use the AGP bus_manager if you want to _experimentally_ enable FastWrites.

I don't exactly know which ASIC is used for Radeon 9100. It might be a r200 (at least the driver handles it as a r200), but I'm not sure. If it really is, there are the same problems as with Radeon 8500 (see the other post). So: does your card has a Rage Theatre on it?

AFAIK Radeon 9000 is a Radeon 8500. I know that TV-Out is a bit different implemented there and thus makes trouble, but don't have presice information. Is this an AIW or VIVO card? More precisely: does it has a Rage Theatre chip on it? If yes, is TV-Out handled by it? Could you, to get precise information, send me your graphics card BIOS to have a look? Thank you.

Do you need more information?

Hi,

I'm using a Radeon 9000 and since version 5.0 my television stays black (with the previous versions i got a 'rolling' screen). I'm using the PAL version and I don't get images via TV-out (In Windows everything works fine)

BTW something strange I found out:
With a previous version I think it was 3.2.7.3 I got more than 100 frames on teapot, with newer version I get merely 50 frames.
I've lost that version, if I find it back I verify this.

(I have already verified it in PHOS but the driver compiled for Phos doesn't seem to work on BeOS 5.0.3
BTW TV-out doesn't work on Phos too)

here's a snippet from my syslog (BeOS 5.0.3):

I've got a Radeon 9600 Pro card.. and since version 4+ of this driver, it makes my display go loco.. that is.. it becomes ULTRABRIGHT, and you can't tell mid-grey from white..

So I'm runnin on an old 3:ish version of the driver, for now.

Great work though!

OT: IGP boot problem

Hi,

I know this is not radeon specifc, but as long as here some IGP user, I hope that some maybe could help me.
My problem is that my laptop with igp chipset isn´t booting any BeOS/Zeta version (asus l4r series). I tried the different save mode options, but every time the debug output shows "sysinit1: 27" as the last line. Does some one has an idea what happen at that time? Or has someone even resolved this problem :-/?

Greetings

Thanks thomas for you radeon driver ver 4.1 since it is working for me.
Anyway now with the Haiku AGP driver from rudolf, it should work but it wont.So I send you my syslogfile in the hope it is valuable for you.
The AGP driver works fine for me in VESA mode but it is not working with your drivers ;-(
Someone told in the tread that I should disable FW since it wont work with radeoncards. So is this true?
Thanks for your driver since ver 4.1 it is working fine.

hi.
@Ilama:
I tried out your suggestion and dissabled the BIOS usb driver thing, but it didn't help.
I'm using BeOS R5.0.3 so it probably hasn't got the same problem with it as Dano or Zeta has.

any new ideas? ;-)

Actually as SD pointed out in the agp talkback it isn't legacy usb, but rather a usb "disk" driver that lets you boot off usb floppy drives and mass storage. That's the setting I turned off in bios, not sure how common it is... But it would appear that dano (and therefor Zeta/PhOS) has issues with this driver and usb. ymmv.

Cheers,
llama

It turns out disabling legacy usb support in bios fixed the crashing problem. dudenz, see if that works for you too! Now I can finally try out some games :-)

Thankyou Thomas!

well, unfortunately nothing changed for me.
the driver you send me to test, didn't work, as you predicted...
I also tried the fake driver v2 with the agp busmanager, but nothing there too... too bad.
well, then i wait how your driver is performing with the troubled radeon 9600, as you said.

thanks again anyways.

Thomas, Any chance you can add the above card to the list, BeOS lists the card as ID 5c61.

Many Thanks

AGP busmanager fake_drv V2 IGP fix
 By rudolfc - Posted on July 22, 2004 - 16:33:25   (#13507)
Current version when comment was posted: 4.1.0.1
Hi,

I just removed the V1 fakedriver, and added a V2 fakedriver in the AGP busmanager download.

ATI IGP users that did not have a working system with Thomas his ATI driver and the module/fake_driver before, are strongly encouraged to try the V2 fake_driver! At least, I'd like to know if this gets more IGP users a working system...

Please let me know if it helps!!

(The V1 driver aborted as soon as it saw that the first found AGP device was already setup for AGP: assuming that all other devices would be in the same state. As we now know ATI fails to do that, so the V2 driver checks ALL devices before aborting now, making sure ALL devices get enabled.)

Rudolf.

Thanks for the report. It seems that the agp bus_manager doesn't do anything useful in your case :(

In terms of linux: could you ask him which driver he uses (hopefully not the closed-sourced version of ATI). And could I also get the X6R11 log of him?

Thank you

hi.
as suggested I experimented with the agp.setting file.
now here is the outcome:
***
max_speed >1; block_agp false; block_sba false; block_fw false: the system stops booting after highlighting the last symbol on the bootscreen. so there is just die usual bootscreen to see with all symbols highlighted, but there is nothing happening.
***
max_speed 1; rest like above: screen gets scrambled.
(see here: http://i08fs1.atis-stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~s_puls/gesamt.jpg )
***
block_agp true; rest doesn't matter: screen gets scrambled as well.
***
block_agp false; block_sba true; block_fw true: screen gets scrambled, too. (max_speed didn't matter)
***
the interessting thing is: on the scrambled screen there are few word to read now. "Cancel Shutdown" and "Kill Application" as you can see here:
http://i08fs1.atis-stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~s_puls/links.jpg
http://i08fs1.atis-stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~s_puls/rechts.jpg
I really don't know why. but there is still no syslog entry from those boots. I wander why.
I hope it helps somehow anyways.

no, I haven't tried linux yet, but i know one how did/does. have you got any special questions I shell ask?

thanks again for your efforts. and thanks to Rudolf as well.

If you need someone for testing, I do have somebody "on the line" with an 0x4e50. So when you have made the necessary changes, I'd dearly like to test the modified driver. You can mail it to "dev AATT m-phasis DDOOTT de".

Thanks in advance!
Michael
