To Androo: nice to hear that the crashing problem seems to be reduced!
To rudolf: I have to admit that I didn't apply the zero-width handling yet. Point is that the CP wants to get the number of rects _before_ it accepts the actual rects. So I may have to go through the list twice: once to get the number of non-empty rects, and again to post the actual commands. I don't like that and have to think about a better solution.
Decaf: as I understand you have a first generation Radeon. I reckon that monitor detection or signal routing is broken in your case; I have to check that.

This is the first version of your driver that has worked with my system. I am now happily using BeOS with a Radeon 9700 Pro using a Viewsonic VP171b LCD monitor connected to the card w/ DVI. Works great :)
Radeon Screen appears to be broken, though, and has missing symbols on R5.

It's generaly not polite to flame bait on the talk back section. PhOS is ... built mostly with software that was never legaly distributed to the public. But that's another story. Thomas has put tons of work into this driver, and writing inane comments aren't exactly a great way to announce your presence in a very small community. I obviously only speak for me, but you might want to tone things down just a bit, and hang out for a while, and get to know people before spouting off.

If anyone has problems with Thomas's drivers. Specifically with dual monitor or Mobility issues, you can try the preliminary R300 driver (works for all radeons at time of publishing). As it's now disapeared from Bebits it can be found here:
http://euank.users.btopenworld.com/beos/beos-radeon-r300-v1.3.1.pkg
If your card isn't supported let me know, and I'll see if I can add it to the driver. Assuming I can find the source code! ;)

Looks like you're searching for help with a Windows driver issue...
None of the software/drivers on Bebits are for Windows, or any other Microsoft OS, they are in fact for BeOS (or Zeta). If you'd like to try BeOS - download the BeOS 5 Personal Edition from Bebits.

I have a several year-old Radeo 7000/VE dual head card that I have been using with two monitors (one in extended desktop mode)successfully since purchasing it. Yesterday, I was attempting to change the resolution of the clone/extended monitor and apparently chose a resolution that it didn't like. A scrambled image appeared and the whole system locked forcing a hard reboot. I have had problems with the displays ever since. The best I am able to configure, despite hours of trying, is to get the secondary monitor to be a clone/duplicate of the primary. When I go to Display Properties/Settings (O/S = W98SE) two monitor icons are shone with #2 being dimmed (disabled). When I click it I get the message asking if I want to enable it. When I answer yes, the icon turns bright and I am able to make changes in its resolution setting. Then when I click OK or Apply I get two pop-up messages. One is the expected "Do you want to save this setting?" but the other says "Driver Memory Allocation Failed" with an instruction to lower the resolution or color depth on the primary monitor.Clicking OK returns everything to the original state (2 identical monitors). Even if I set the primary monitor at 640 x 480/256 colors, the same message (and result) happens when I attempt to extend the desktop to the 2nd monitor. Did I somehow damage the card's memory when I selected the resolution that caused the problem in the first place? (That monitor happens to be an NCD Type NC21855AA, mfg. 1995. I know it is old, but was a give-away but is 20" viewable and has worked fine for almost 5 years.) Primary monitor is HP A4331D. How do I get my extended desktop back? Since I have a 2nd NCD that I would like to put on the other side of the HP (CinemaScope anyone?) should I shop for a graphics card that will support 3 monitors (more?) directly? What are my choices? Prices? BTW, I am not a gamer per se, I just need lots of room to spread out my windows. TIA for all help/suggestions.

Hi there.
I just got my new notebook which uses the graphicscard named above. I tried the R300, 3.2.7 and 3.2.8 driver under BeOS R5.0.3. but it did stay in black/white. When changing the resolution I ended up scrolling my desktop.
It would really be great to get this card working.

My system is the following:
Athlon XP
Gigabyte GA-7VA (KT400A)
Gigabyte Radeon 9200SE (AGP 8X)
ADI 17" CRT
BeOS 5PE Max3
None of the Radeon drivers (the ones that came with it, v3.2.8, nor the v3.2.7 you linked below) work. They're stuck in b/w, and while they let me change the resolution, as far as I can tell it just resizes everything instead without changing the resolution. The standard vesa drivers let me use 800x600 and 16-bit color, but nothing more. (The goal would be 1024x768 24/32-bit color 85Hz.)
I've heard of various problems with Radeon cards in motherboards with VIA chipsets if you don't install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers (under Windows); don't know whether it's something similar here, but at any rate I highly doubt VIA has BeOS drivers.
Any ideas?

Yes, I am using PhOS b4. I didn't see the radeon accelerant or the kernel driver in the install. At least not where I thought it should be.
Of course, I still don't know if this driver supports the IGP graphics in my laptop. Any news on when the next beta will be ready?

Hello,
I am trying to install this driver, but it keeps giving me errors about directory accelerants and directory kernel not existing. I looked at the summary of the install, and checked all the paths it shows, and both directories do exist.
Do you have just a tarball or zip of the binary driver I can use to copy the files to the right place?
Thank you.

There must be a different problem with your card, since that id number is already in the driver. I am not sure what your problem is. BTW, my email address should work if you remove the NOSPAM part.

Are you sure that is the right number? I would expect it to be 0x514x where x is another digit or a letter from a-f. I got my number from linux (not XP). If you have linux, do 'cat /proc/pci' and look for a spot that says:
chip 0x1002,0x.... (the 4 dots would be where your number would be). Drop a note to gyoder@NOSPAM.stny.rr.com with the correct number, and I will build you a driver.

You just need to get the device ID of the card. You can find this in windows XP by going to the display properties / advanced / adapter. It is the hex number in brackets. IE "Radeon 9600 Pro Series (0x4150)"
You need to add this number to the device lists in the radeon driver then simply recompile (using BeIDE).
If you send me the number I can compile you a driver with your card supported.

When I installed the driver in late November. I had also bought a new ATI card and monitor to use with it. Running BeOS 5.0.3 I found you needed to recompile all the source code supplied to use the preferences. At the time I report that my screen would blank out or portions of the screen would turn to garbage. And if I used the computer for a very long time it would lock up with or without a blamk screen. This is with no screen savers enabled. Noting that the new card used a lot more wattage than my old ATI Rage that did not even need a cooling fan I bought a new Power Supply. One month of use and I no longer have lockups or bad graphic displays. People take note if you have an older computer and have made a major jump in your video card check your power supply voltage.

First of all I want to say thanx to Thomas and Euan for the good job to create a driver for radeon graphics. I myself had absolute NO problem with this driver using a radeon8500all-in-wonder. But now I updated to an radeon9600pro and ... never change a running system :-/
I have (and had during radeon8500 times) an Sony Flatpanel. Because I have driver problems I tried out several things. This are my results:
1. DVI-D connected:
1a) Zeta:
1aa) original driver from Thomas (v3.2.8.):doesn't work at all (black screen, panel says: not connected.
1ab) R300 driver hack from Euan works but only up to resolution of 1024x768. Higher resolutions not recognized when choosed.
1b) BeOS R5.03
1ba) original driver from Thomas (v3.2.8.):doesn't work at all (black screen, panel says: not connected.
1bb) R300 driver hack from Euan works but only up to resolution of 1024x768. Higher resolutions not recognized when choosed.
2. analog-VI connected:
2a) Zeta:
2aa) original driver from Thomas (v3.2.8.):doesn't work at all (black screen, panel says: not connected.
2ab) R300 driver hack from Euan doesn't work at all (black screen, panel says: not connected.
2b) BeOS R5.03
2ba) original driver from Thomas (v3.2.8.):doesn't work at all (black screen, panel says: not connected.
1bb) R300 driver hack from Euan WORKS PERFECT.
Of course analog-VI is not an option if you have DVI-D on your monitor. I just hope I could help you developer guys to fix up that problem with DVI recognization.
Good luck,
Boris
