I'd like to continue my push for this card to have support under this driver. I'm not certain if you live in the United States or not (I'm guessing no) but I would be happy to cover part of the cost of one of these cards.
Thank you so much for your continued support of the BeOS community!

As always thanks for working on this driver! But, it looks like the driver causes my system to lock up and/or trigger problems in net_server on R5.0.x with my Radeon VE. I've narrowed it down to the driver, by reinstalling an older version (v3.2.2) over the newer 3.2.7 driver. Switching back to 3.2.7 causes the problems again, and back to 3.2.2 solves them.

Oh man.. such a relief!!
I was worried when I saw you released a new driver, I was seriously hoping it wasn't a great thing for me to get.. and it wasn't...
Of course.. I'm just trying to keep my uptime, so I could kill every app and server, then restart them ;-)

As ATI hasn't released any further info, I cannot tell how hard/possible/feasible it is to support the new cards they introduced.

I got a disstorted picture and assumed that my tv was the reason, as it is a old portable
when I changed the resolutions of the screen and refresh rates I sort of got a picture ( pure luck it seems (?) )
playing with the multi monitor option, did my system no good
so I had to remove the driver .....

There is no TV-Out support built into the driver (ATI doesn't provide any spec, i.e. there is no way of doing it), so I'm impressed that you got it working!

I've added the IDs of Radeon 9500/9700, but they don't work. I have no clue what the problem is, as they should be very similar to previous versions (at least in terms of 2D). Perhaps they don't work in "PCI-Mode" anymore (changing resolution works but acceleration is completely broken and you get psychodelic colours); I've asked ATI about that and am awaiting a reply. I reckon that these cards would work in AGP-Mode, but this involves writing AGP drivers for every single chipset, which is a bit too much work just to get a graphics card working.
SpaceGirl currently crashes sometimes in Multi-Monitor mode and Page Flipping doesn't work at all. If anyone knows a good program to test Vertical Blank Interrupts, please let me know.
A demo version of SpaceGirl, which is a 3D "kill-em-all" shooter, can be found under http://www.bebits.com/app/1114.

Well, it involves killing all applications anyway, so it isn't more interesting than a reboot.
Just like Windows has an option of only restarting Windoze, which indeed takes longer than a straight reboot =)

Being able to replace the graphics driver without restarting is a basic problem under Be as the app_server needs to be restarted. Perhaps it is possible, but first this will require quite some magic and thus take more time to find out how to do that then I'm able to spend and second you probably have to terminate every single program, so it doesn't make much of a difference whether you "only" restart the app_server or the entire system. But if anyone is willing to spent time investigating this, he/she's is welcome ;)

Thomas, with all your wisdom, you should find a way for me to use this driver without restarting.
I am trying for a full month uptime (now that this is not my experiment machine), so this will not be used on my system for a couple weeks.
Then again, that could mean I get the chance to watch the results of others ;-)
But still, find a way!!
closing all running apps, server, and then the app_server and then forcing the bootscript to relaunch would probably be ideal ;-)
I guess that would be my terrirtory.. hehe

I have the below chip set in my new laptop. I get what can only be described as a black screen with vague shapes that look like a garbled BeOS desktop. I thought I might be in luck because of the card ID. Has anyone else had this problem??
Details:
Acer Travelmate 740
ATi Radeon Mobility (according to Windows XP)
ASIC Type: M6
ASIC IS: 4c59 (also same in BeOS devices pref)
Bus Type: AGP 1X, AGP 2X, AGP 4X
BIOS Version: 005.000.006.000
BIOS Date: 2001/08/30
Memory Size: 16.0MB (fixed, non BIOS editable)
Memory Type: DDR SGRAM / SGRAM
Memory Range: 88000000 - 8FFFFFFF
I/O Range: A000 - A0FF
Memory Range: 80500000 - 8050FFFF
IRQ: 11 (IIRC it might be 10 under BeOS)
I/O Range: 03B0 - 03BB

I already talked to you about this problem, but then I didn't have my radeon for some time. So here it is again:
- If I connect only one TFT and I use 1024x768 everything works fine
- If I change the resolution I get a black screen (After pressing "apply" it works, but when I click on "Keep" this settings I get the blank screen.
- If I connect both TFTs I get 2 black screens. One displays me: "Non Preset Mode" and the other "Wrong frequentity" (or something like that). [=> At least on one screen I could reproduce that problem in windows by disabling Horizontal Syncronisation (or Vertical,.. don't remember exactle)]
I hope you can help me with that problem. =(

This driver is just great. The performance of my ancient system went way up with the Radeon I just installed. Before, I had a Gefore2-MX board in it, but the Radeon is just much snappier as a 2D board with this driver. Zooming and scrolling are much faster. I know what I'm talking about since I compared the nvidia driver and this radeon driver against each other in some of the basic 2D functions which are hardware accelerated in BeOS. Even the upscaling of overlays look a bit smoother on the Radeon.
This is just a very good driver, even comes with it's own Screen preferences to make some of the features available. Very solid work. Now I'm testing stability. I'm used to have this system run for months straight. The leaked Be Radeon driver was not stable. I would be surprised if this driver is a disappointment in this regard.
Regards,
-Stephan

Under Linux : i try 5 mins UT2003 and it's running fine under rh8 + last ATI drivers... But game crashes (hang ...).
btw this drivers are for BUILDBYATI cards... so POWEREDBYATI users (as me) need to flash the bios with a 'ati' one .

I have the same symptoms like 'mjessop' in an earlier posting. My card is an ATI Radeon 32 MB SDR (bulk), and
I would be very glad if you could get to work your driver also with this one, though it's already one of the 'older' ATI cards. Maybe I could support the development with testing and bug reporting, if it is appreciated, but at the moment I cannot even work half a minute with my BeOS...

New Radeon Linux drivers were released a couple of days ago. Adds texture compression etc so UT2003 will run now. I don't do Linux, but they seem to have been warmly received.
As soon as Thomas released the Radeon drivers, I "upgraded" to a 9700. Duh! Still with the Tiger!

Euan, Thanks for the link.
I've just swap my gf2 for a hercules FDX 8500le (250/250) and i'm quite happy with it under Be and WinXP...
But 3D is big "bullsh*t" under linux... thinks to coming back to my old gf2...
[offtopic: btw i swap also the tyan TigerMP for a k7dmaster. better ... as apm is managed now : beos switch off ;-P...]

Change the VESA refresh rates to 85Hz, and viola, no hurting eyes, but still crappy performance! :)

Starts up fine, looks nice, then starts to stagger and lines start ripping through the screen and my monitor goes blank. Once, the monitor reported "FREQUENCY OUT OF RANGE". I had it set at 72hz. It is a new Dell M991 monitor (or something like that) that came with my 8200.

Installed Max V2. I had video upon installation, but it was only black and white, and non-adjustable. Installed the latest(10/16/02) version of this driver, rebooted, and had perfect video. None of the other functions of the DV work, unfortunately, but it is good to have proper video again.
BeOS...I'm home again.

Just used Google to find out more on mesa3D.
It turns out Mesa3D is MesaGL, though.
Same code, different name.

Okay, before you think that is me thinking you are being overo[ptimisitc.. let me tell you my performance.
ATI Radeon NO NUM, 32MBN DDR (AnW, AGP 4x)
GLTeapot (non HW OGL) - 45 fps
GL Viewer (HW OGL) - 600~800 fps Windowed
900+ 800x600x32 Full Screeb
I, btw, use MesaGL ported to BeOS. I have done NO coding to ahieve the results, however my FSB is 150MHz and my RAM is also @150.. my CPU is at a nice 1500mhz.. all from a GHz Celeron-T btw... just a darned good mobo, and a darned good computer specialist.
SO, I suggest you up your expectations a little... I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 1000fps ++, but anything over 60fps or so doesn't really matter.. its all smooth in 3d from then on ;-)
