X600se

Very very very good work!

I have the same card and resolution as ljr.
1280x768 is setable and works fine.

Didn't notice any drawing bugs or problems at all.
Man, I am happy now, gotten rid of the bloody VESA mode ;)

Big big THANKS!

Also the TV and second monitor connectors are setable although I didn't test these yet.
But seeing the settings, it seems the X600se is completely supported now, at least here on my machine :)

CRT corruption @ 1440x1024

This is probably because the mode line for this resolution is for LCD's and doesn't have a sufficient duration for the vertical retrace to reach the top of the screen on the CRT. Or maybe it's just messed up. :)

Backlight

I'll have a look throught the code for backlight setting. Perhaps it could also be an ACPI controlled backlight? Can you check in the your bios if there are settings for it, and also try shutting the lid then reopening to if that makes any difference?

Works without backlight (X600)

Hey Euan,

thanks for your E-Mail! I immediately tested the driver works! Except for that my laptop panels backlight is not enabled. So I connected a CRT and speed was very fine. Definitively no VESA.

I had some drawing glitches at the top, but colors where all fine. The drawing issues were perhaps related to the CRT not being able to handle 1400x1050 fully ;)

I've been trying in previous source code versions to enable the backlight, but I failed. If you have a clue, or can find some inspiration, that would be really great!

Thank you very much for your efforts!

Great news

It's great to see that laptops are working too, I was a bit pesimistic about gettign that far in one jump.

Is that the native resolution for the LCD, as that's still something I think still needs some work?

Any problems with the drawing bug I mentioned? It's quite odd, it seems to be related to the rectangle fill command, and screen to screen copies. Odd indeed...

Thanks Santa *Euan*

YES !

it's running fine for my laptop under zeta : the ati card is x600se (64mo) Vendor 0x1002 ID 0x5462

I'm using 1280x768 (14"1). VLC (DVDplayer) is playing with overlay : cpu (PM 1.73) usage is around 20-30% for dvd playing (Star wars III).

Really great to have speedy desktop on my laptop :-)

ps: installation step :
- i remove standard radeon driver under /boot/beos,
- i remove vesa config file thru VesaConfig,
- i install new radeon driver files under home.

Well nearly!

I now have working drivers for AGP X700's and PCIE X300's (the only non-working hardware that I have recently been given the opportunity to test with). Many thanks to the donors Adam Kirchoff, and myself. :)

This driver is fresh of the mill, therefore is for people with non-working systems only. It will reduce performance as DMA is disabled. Additionally there is a drawing bug somewhere that at 5am, I don't feel like finding right now. (Textboxes may have corners skewed off for some reason; worse case I saw was BeIDE).

I would appreciate if people send me syslogs, and report any success / failure.

I have an 16:9 lcd tv with a native rez of 1366x768, the manual notes that 1360x768 should be used for best results but I don't see any 16:9 or other widescreen modes in either zeta's preferences or the radeon screen. The laptop has a 4:3 screen... What can I do?

A very kind person is loaning me an X700. Hopefully that will find some general problem with the driver. Other than that we're up 5h17 creek without a paddle.

It's difficult to fix becuase where our driver diverge from X.org is in the multi-monitor and memory mapping. Both were "fixed" by Thomas to be both readable, and sensible. Along with the DRI works going on, it's *very* complicated to compare the two and find subtle differences, that cause a whole lot of problems.
:(

If anyone wants to loan me a dodgy laptop that would be great. For example if your boss or colleague is away on holiday for two weeks, send me their laptop... hehe ;)

Still problem with X600se

that's not normal. have a look at the pulse app, if the cpu time is high when moving the windows, it means you are still running the VESA driver.

I just tried these drivers for the first time & while the work I find the redraw really slow. If I move windows around they redraw slow, lag & have a bit of artifact every once in a while. Is this normal or might there be some measures I could take to speed things up?

not sure but probably some of the links contain different versions,
however I think also Haiku contains the drivers (they are MIT or not?)
so if people have any fixes they should send them to the responsible person for the drivers at the haiku source tree

Removed the standard drivers, rebooted and moved them back rebooted and voila, accelerated desktop, great! : )
Now I wonder, 1. what caused it, 2. where is this driver settings info which caused the 'black screen' (when I removed the drivers it automatically fell back to fail-save video mode (the Zeta 1.1 update destroys some of the VESA(?) colour display, 1024x768x16 displayed fine on an out-of-the-box zeta 1.0)

found it, weird

It must be the install method, both zeebee and tekmate installed zeta 1.0 straight to HDD only I installed it via USB-CDROM, they both have normal video, I have to use fail-safe video.
Tested both s-video and vga out and on both I get garbage video and the system hangs (or won't reboot)

two differences

There are only two differences. I installed zeta via usb cdrom, I have 512MB instead of 256MB RAM.

zeebee and his nc4010

Funniest is, like Kancept noted, this guy zeebee http://zetahardware.com/reports/00004.php reported having even overlay on his nc4010 but at the end there is written "ZetaHardware.com highly recommends this Laptop for ZETA. We are certain that the video issue will be addressed shortly."
Already emailed him about it.
As you can see, same zetapc-info, or should I rather look elsewhere in the system?

syslog and zetapc-info

You mean syslog in /boot/var/log/syslog? In that syslog there are only locale server errors and some dhcpd.

Copy&paste from zeta pc info:
North Bridge: ATI - RS200 - CPU to PCI Bridge
Vendor: 0x1002 - Device: 0xCBB2

South Bridge: s - M1535+ - PCI South Bridge
Vendor: 0x10B9 - Device: 0x1533

Video Card: ATI - RS200M - Mobility M6 (U2)
Vendor: 0x1002 - Device: 0x4337

Sound Card: s - M5451 - Ali Audio Accelerator
Vendor: 0x10B9 - Device: 0x5451

Ethernet Card: Intel - - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN Card Driver
Vendor: 0x8086 - Device: 0x1043

Ethernet Card: Broadcom - BCM5705M - Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
Vendor: 0x14E4 - Device: 0x165D

Tried your driver in the previous comment, same black screen. I noticed that my icons where on different places after the 'blind' reboot. Maybe the panel doesn't like the freq or other settings and shuts itself off.
I had this weird problem in windows xp, always when it would wake up from sleep I had to push the nibble which notifies the nb the lid is closed or open to 'activate' the screen otherwise the screen stayed black. It only happened when in woke up not after boot. Tried to push it in zeta right away of course and it did switch off and on (backlight) when I released it but the screen was still black but with backlight.

Oh mobilty.

It's a mobilty. Please join the list of all the other mobility users with problems. I haven't done much really as I'm kind of stuck in a rut regarding progressing the driver. Without actual hardware it's near impossible for me to help fix the probs.

A syslog would be most useful if you can get one.

Have you tried my updated driver:

http://euank.users.btopenworld.com/beos/BeOS_Radeon_V5.1.3.1_Bin.zip

Install it over the top of the offical version.

@ kancept, all; it's a ATI - RS200M - Mobility M6 (U2)

Huh rage 128?

I wonder why this zeebee got to install it without a problem, even his s-video worked and it's the exact same hw he lists. OK maybe the 0x?? memory locations are different but I'm sure puzzled.

The 1.1 update didn't help but I tried setting fail-safe video mode AND 1024x768x8,15,16 WOW freaky colours, but better than greyscale.

I'll try the rage 128 driver but I'm pretty confused why it didn't work since it's almost certain that it is on the zeta 1.0 CD since yT nicks almost all SW it can find.

M6?

on bebits somewhere probably.

M6 does not work, since it is not really a radeon.

M5 and M6 are just beefed up Rage mobillity with some fury clockspeeds and transfer bus. Thus it does not work with the radeon driver or the mobillity driver. Sorry. You will have to write a completley new driver.

Ati Mobility M6 / Zeta 1.1

Hmm, the screen is black when I don't boot with fail-safe video mode in Zeta 1.1. I installed (standard) this driver same thing, after all boot symbols light up and the video switches it switches to black.
HW: HP NC4010, video Ati Mobility M6.

I see this driver hadn't got an update for 1,5 years, does Zeta have newer versions of this driver or does yT have their own driver?

I'll take a look

It's a problem with my 9800, not 8500 :-)

And it's within a second or two of the screensaver kicking in :-) Happens with both the version posted here in the talkback, and the version that comes with Zeta (not sure which that is off the top of my head).

Is it as soon as a screensaver animation starts, or perhaps when the monitor is turned off / powered down?

One would suggest a render problem, the other DPMS / power management.

Screensaver problems with 9800

FYI, I get strange lockups with my 9800 quite consistently when the screensaver kicks even (even if it's the saver that just blanks the screen).

http://68.44.156.246/beos-radeon-log.txt.gz

This is the debug log. Unfortunately, when the machine locks up, absolutely nothing shows up in the debug log, and the machine just locks up solid.

On the same machine, with the same version of the radeon driver, a radeon 9200 works just fine.

Rudolf are also working on a one card one desktop thing

so you can have 2 cards and they will support one desktop each. So now if we Haiku can use usb1-2 to one desktop and 3-4 on another (for mouse and keyboard) then we would have a true multiusersystem :)

New Test Version 1.5.3.1
 By Euan - Posted on February 19, 2006 - 19:10:41   (#19085)

Hi all,

Changes:

Rage Theater 200 support added, but not working yet on my system.

*** Warning do not install the media_addon unless you want to potentially crash your system ***

If you don't need it, don't install it!

At this time my PCI Radeon9000 AIW crashes when downloading the microcode, haven't found the cause yet. It failes doing a VIP FIFO read incase your interested. Maybe some 9x00 VIVO/AIW users can test this?

Possible Fix for X700's Command Processor \ DMA problem (was reported on X.org as fix for R423, but sounds like same problem hopefully).

Video In support for X800's (all but Asus X800s have a Rage Theater 1 series chip). Seams quite buggy, was it always like that? At the moment the Radeon media addon is quite picky about what formats and settings are allowed. For example StampTV asks for 638x480 resolution instead of 640x480, and Radeon doesn't like it... Don't try to resize the StampTv window (if you even get it running). TV app works great but doens't use overlay so chews through CPU time. Changing Formats PAL/NTSC works sometimes, sometimes not. YCbCr422 format doesn't work not sure if it's the capture, or the overlay, and even if I broke it...

No changes yet for Flatpanel support. I'm still thinking about it, but it's messy. What would be useful is linux X logs showing what settings the linux code picks for your displays. You don't need to download linux, maybe just try a bootable cd image?

Plans:

Flatpanel initialisation fixed
Overlay / Capture tidy up
Multiple Card Support / Cold Start.
