Plan to do some work

Hi all,

I just invested (indulged) in 2 LCD screens with DVI inputs. I will have a go at fixing the Flat panel detection code, it looks pretty broken!

I'll also look into the problems with Xx00 series cards. Can you tell me if the people have problems are using PCIe or AGP versions of the cards?

If anyone wishes to send me a PCIe reference board with motherboard, and CPU feel free ;) hehe

sorry, I should mention I've tried it in both r503 netserver and ZETA 1.1 with no success on a DVI flat panel that has a native resolution of 1024x768. I did look through the source code and did see the 8500dv properly listed, card ID and all.

no 8500dv :-(

I am unamle to get my radeon aiw 8500dv going with the driver. CardID for this card is 4242. Once it's going i can start messing with the firewire aspect of it...

Thanks.

Unfortunately...

I think those of us with X*** radeon cards are out of luck for the time being. ATI changed the BIOS probe routines for these cards, I believe, and, unfortunatey, Euan's updated driver doesn't seem to handle this properly. If I have the time, interest, and knowledge, I may try to get it working sometime early next year.

Does Anybody can use a X600se (5462) board (toshiba M50) ?

I tried the radeon patched drivers but in vain. My modded detect.c didn't do better :-(

Euan,

FYI, I downloaded your Xseries driver to see if it'd work on my X700 card. No luck :-(

According to the debug log output, it detects the card, but the screen is completely messed up, and unusable. I can telnet in, though, and reboot, thankfully. The debug log shows logs of SYNC_TO_TOKEN failures. You can view the full log at http://68.44.156.246/session.log.gz

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Problems to add my CardId

vmware..

Support under vmware will be different as vmware emulates hardware. It doesn't use your real graphics card, sound card, etc.

As goes Radeon/FireGL issues under Zeta, its best to contact yellowTAB as they have their own fork of this driver for Zeta.

zeta1.1 live cd

Hi there!

I downloaded the Zeta 1.1 live cd and tried booting in vmware, in order to try if my graphics card is supported now. Well, it is not. But stange enough the support under VMware is different to a real boot of the CD.
Look for your self:
Booting in VMware: http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~unaut/Zeta_live_vmware_foto.JPG
Booting the CD: http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~unaut/Zeta_live_cd_foto.JPG

Is there an explanation to this? I have absolutely no clue what makes the difference with VMware. In VMware it looks ugly but it is usable - meaning it doesn't freeze like the CD-boot. It is not usable for being productive or enjoyable. (It seems not to be VESA, because in VESA it looks differently.)

I have an ATI mobility FireGL T2 (0x4e54). Thomas once said that my problem might be related to problems with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600. So are there any new guesses how to fix it?

Thanks for your work.

dudenz

Hi,

Anyone here has access to such laptop with Windows and could check pixel clock value for me? I have:
HP nc6000
ATI Radeon Mobility 96000 (rv350, m10)
XGA screen, 14"

I tried different values, inlcuding the one i managed to get on Ubuntu from xvdiag (or something like that) - which was 65000, or 64996, but none worked.
I tried some others without results :(
BeOS freezez just after boot, boot screen gets "moved" and some black horizontal lines move move there.

Thanks

Maybe your syslog got cleared when you rebooted with user-addons disabled: if you disable the user-addons there will be no Radeon lines in the syslog as the driver is then simply not being used...

Did you already run a search on files named "syslog*" ?

Any other syslog files on your disk?

Using PhOSb6, can't get radeon driver working

I tried to get the driver working in Zeta, which it did ONCE, but never again for some reason. Now i'm using PhOSb6, which i like very much, but i can't get the radeon driver working in that as well. I've tried to put it in the home directory, the beos directories, changed the name around to every other driver seeing if it WOULD work, but to nothing.

The card is a X800 pro, with an AMD 2700+ CPU and asus mobo.

Hi, thanks for your help.

I tried again, this is what I did:

1) I made a new partition

2) Installed Gobe BeOS 5.0.3 Pro

3) Bootup up for the first time - it's in greyscale

4) Find the Kernel options file, copy the file out of the samples folder into the proper folder, remove the # before the syslog command

5) Reboot (still in greyscale), try and find the syslog file to see if it is working

6) Can't find the var folder, used 'Find' command to search for 'syslog', found the file, logging appears to be working...

7) Install version 5.1 of the Radeon driver, verify that it has installed. It has. Files are in the right places.

8) Reboot

9) After the boot screen, blue lines across the screen (sometimes blue lines come, sometimes it is just a black screen). Computer seems jammed.

10) Reboot, press space during boot screen, put it into safe mode, don't allow user add-ons - it boots up in greyscale.

11) Check the syslog file, NO MENTION OF RADEON in the syslog file.

What am I doing wrong?!?

My details again:

Manufacturer: ATI Tech. - Enhanced
Chip Type: Radeon 9200 AGP (0x5961) Rev 1
DAC Type: Internal

My computer is a AMD Athlon K7 (700) with 256 Mb RAM and an ASUS motherboard.

Thanks once again for your help. I really want to get this working.

To cvincent: glad to hear it's working for you as well :)

To IbnAdam: have a look at what Euan is saying: if the Radeon driver is being loaded properly there should be a whole bunch of lines starting with "Radeon" in your SYSLOG output...

Or you truncated your syslog output shown over here too quickly or the driver is simply not being installed correctly or used at all...

Take care,
Tek_No

The driver is not being started. Hence is probably not installed correctly. Do a search for all radeon files. Delete them, then reboot. Then re-install, and reboot once more.

I tried the USB patch and then this driver - black screen.

I tried a version of the driver before 3.2.8 as some have mentioned here - black screen.

There are quite a few people hving problems with this driver judging by the comments. I wonder why that is because the card, and my machine are very standard...

I really would like to fix this issue, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Black screen

Hi, thanks for your reply...

The monitor did not give any info, it just went black - the startup sound did not play either (but then again the speakers are built into the base of the monitor) so I don't know...

The status light on the monitor stayed green (which means it is active) as opposed to orange which it becomes when I reboot etc.

So I'm sorry, I don't know exactly why the monitor went black, there is no feedback... it just became black after the boot sequence, after it shows the icon loading in the boot sequence, then instead of arriving at the desktop it just became black...

what kind?

What kind of black lcreen? Did the monitor go into sleep mode? Did it say out of range? Did it just lock up? My TFTs genally give me the kind of error if there is an issue.

Hi...

I am still trying to get this working...

I have a Radeon 9200 AGP and an AMD Athlon 700

When I use the driver, it just comes up with a black screen after the boot sequence.

Following the advice in the previous post, I generated a log file, which I am including here - apologies for the file being so long...

Any ideas!?!?!

Hehe, because it's not MY driver: I needed to fix my problems a while ago and because I don't know anything about how graphics drivers are being coded it took me quite some time to figure out where in the code it was going wrong.

I shared my experiences with the BeOS community so I maybe could help some others as well :)

Take care,
Tek_No

Hi,

Thx when i get time i can test, it's not my laptop (it's at work) but i get idea about the issue, why don't let an option in setting file to force this value !!!
it's more simple for lot of users !!!

Your HP NX series has the same chipset as my HP ZT3000 series... I got the same problem and was able to fix it by making some changes to the driver:

please read my Talkback comments I made earlier on this

Funny, I'm surprised it even works. The Tv-in / out is a part I haven't even looked at yet. I think there is another bios section called the mm_table that needs fixing, but I haven't found where it's been moved to in the x.org codebase. It seems the gatos project was merged into the x.org code and so things have moved...

It could be b/w for a number of reasons. Wrong format, un-combined luma/chroma composite, s-video times wrong etc who knows...

tvout is b/w

Driver really works fine now :-)

There is only one thing that I wonder about:
I have a radeon 9600 (pro, i think). TvOUT works out of the box with PALBDGHI selected.

The radeon x800 pro only shows b/w tvout.
Strange thing: already BIOS shows up b/w no colors. Only way to get colored tv mode is using the proprietary radeon for windows.

Did anyone else experience this?

X800 + DVI

Garjala, can you post a syslog of a boot attempt using DVI, or email one to me? It would be good to see what the card is trying to do.

Yes, it fixes that

Actually that crash happens in almost any program wher you can select text (like StyledEdit). It is fixed in that version.

still reproducable crashes?

Does the driver update (august, 6th) fix the issues with "selection" (i.e. in beshare) as described in the yt-phorum?

Newest version is still no go with X800 + DVI

I still get black screen if I try to use DVI in Zeta. No idea why. It seems that I have to switch back to analog to get picture.

Well seems i have to abandon BeOS at last becouse of the ATI driver.. ashame really :/ the Zeta driver works but only with a external monitor and this driver don't even seem to detect my driver even though i've tried to modify the driver.. although i could have done some things wrong when i modified it.. ah well..

it's a pitty i've even used R4.5 when I didn't have soundsupport back then but the graphics.. well can't live without it :)

invert rect bug

I haven't had enough time to debug it. I think (not sure) it only happens in Zeta. Therefore I'd guess it's an app_server bug. But it could also be a buffering problem, eg too many requests sent at once, choking the card...

There is already a sizable ammount of "extra" code in this acceleration function on the radeon cards to solve a screen corruption bug. It's most likely related. I'll look at this bug only after I have been through the X.org codebase and applied all the other changes to do with asic errata and the likes.

Is that rectangle bug in driver or app_server?

Is that rectangle bug in driver or app_server? I mean that is it app_server bug that popped up first time in X800 series?

Updated Patch now Available

I've updated the X800 patch to now use the real timing parameters from the new bios format. The timings for Digital Flat Panels is also included but is untested due to lack of hardware. ;)

Invert Rectangle acceleration has been disabled due to an X800 bug (and others of same generation?) So if you have a Radeon 9800 or below don't bother using this driver.

I cannot get picture if I plug my flatscreen to DVI. It shows text ok before Radeon driver kicks in then I just get black screen. No out of sync or other warnings, just black screen.

Any ideas about how to fix that?

Fix issues with the current driver first.

Really.. someone should fix the the current issues first.. says the one who can't do c programming :) sadly.. but im in a learning stage so if noone does this im probably forced to try do it myself at a later stage of my learning process since im getting desperate without a fully working BeOS installation :) or Zeta for that matter since i get the same problems there.
