I got a big problem that only happens on Zeta 1.21.
The sound card produces too much noises and I could hardly hear the real sound. Whatever I use Zeta's General AC97 or ICH AC97.
This problem doesn't happen on BeOS 5, or Windows. I don't know why the soundcard in Zeta makes too much noises.

I think this was the last version available in Bebits.
Unfortunately, it did not work with my onboard Realtek ac97 codec (Abit NF7-S2 motherboard).
I would like to send this file to someone who has a site to put it there, available to everybody. If this is your case, please drop me a line and I will send you the file.

I tried zeta didn't like it. If I can't get surport for BEOS R5 it's back to windows for me. I would gladly pay for good drivers for R5 if I needed to but not for zeta. I don't need this driver the sound works great on my laptop. Just hate to see good developers wasteing their time on an OS I will never use. You should develope apps for both.

I don't get it...removing the links to the app? I use this driver in R5 and it works fine for me, albeit I do not record anything in BeOS.
I understand not supporting Zeta, but do not understand removeing the link for those of us who choose to stick with R5.
Guess I'll have to add a mirror. It is also widely available on BeShare for those in need.

I have yT R1, and recording does work, albeit somewhat buggy.
I offered a $300 bounty for this feature a while back, but that turned into a mess.
I stand by my word, and recently donated some money towards Haiku. I instructed M.Phipps to forward the $300 I offered a while back to Marcus since he fulfilled the request, and is a Haiku developer.
I'm wondering though if the code he committed/donated to Haiku is the same as yT has for this driver?
In any case, I don't understand the latest development in this story.

I remember that yellowTab was offering some money for the dev that would be able to give this driver the recording option. Since it's a must have feature (a lot of laptop use the ac97 chipset), i think they will make it themselve and so, they need sourcecode to do so.
So perhaps they just bought them to Mad Scientist.
Would be a good news cause next SP for Zeta could include a record feature for those chipsets, the bad thing is that they will be no other update for people using R5 and have bought the driver. No support.

Why did the version jump from 1.7 (which was not complete and didn't support recording) to 9.99 which is no longer available?
Why didn't you just remove the app? Do you have some kind of point to make with this?

Doesn't work with Asus K8V Deluxe / ADI 1980 (Detection failed)
on BeOS Max 3.1.
Tried the debug version but apparently the detection failed.
BeOS seems to detects the chipset a 'sound' PCI device. with no conflicts.
Btw, I had to disable call bios in the safe mode (else it wouldn't run on my Athlon 64 CPU). Is it the reason why it doesn't work ?

Seems like some of Marcus' posts may have been overlooked. Here are some quotes of interest:
-------
The driver is finished and does support recording and mixer
controls since more than a year!
[...]
Sadly, the BeOS R5/Zeta multiaudio.media_addon doesn't support
mixer controls, and recording sometimes randomly hangs the
system.
[...]
Thus, these recording and mixer features had to be disabled
for the public release. I don't want to release a driver
that appears to be unstable (when in fact, the fault is in the
OS).

So just in this 'pissing match' I've identified $600 available, plus people that say they would also contribute for a fully working driver.
It's a shame the current developer won't name a price (Instead saying you can't pay for his work).
I emailed bedrivers, and notified them of this thread as well, but got no response.

I post a simple remark about the driver not working, and the conversation devolves into a pissing match.
Anyway... I've finally had the time to download and install the debug version of the driver, and I grabbed the log file last night.
http://68.44.156.246/ich_ac97.log
I will, of course, e-mail the file to Marcus.
I would also like to point out that I am more than willing to pay for a fully functional driver. Heck, I would have even been willing to donate money for the current driver had I known that this was desired.

Your opinion on this matter has no thought...
The driver is already there and was offered free to the community, as many other developers do. Money wasn't asked from the developer in the first place. To most people it wouldn't even occur to offer money for the development. Clearly people can give if they want, but there isn't even an easy way for Marcus' driver. Take for example the hfa384x developer... He offers the driver for free, but says, if you want to offer money for enhancing it or upgrading it, then go ahead and donate.
What we are doing is offering contract work, yes.
"you don't see that we're talking two completely different issues here"
You're discussing this issue of compensation for the existing driver with yourself...

.. you don't see that we're talking two completely different issues here. One is about contract work. This is what you talk about. The other is about work he has already done and that is used by many - look at the number of downloads this driver has. I doubt that all of them are accidential. All the offers I read here are about contract work to extend the existing driver. But close to nobody seems to care about rewarding the work already done.

I've spoken to Marcus on behalf of beunited and we were unable to come to terms on writing contracted drivers... but only because of the fact that beunited has no funding, and could only offer hardware to Marcus (but had some restrictions to protect donators as much as developers that was too restrictive for Marcus to accept) - but the bottom line is we could provide no money for his efforts and time. It was a mutual acknowledgement that we wouldn't be able to reach a beneficial agreement.
But aside that, I've offered $100 for working input on this driver as well, privately to Marcus, and then also offered up part of the pool to yellowTab - both of which I never recieved a reply to.
Marcus is a great developer, and a very valuable asset to the community. I do not place any blame on him for wanting some compensation for his hard work. Anyone that puts in every extra minute they have available towards this community deserves those moments worth of gold for their efforts.
My point being is that if there are people that are offering up in the $100s of dollars, someone should step forward to organize this to provide Marcus with a suitable bounty to motivate him to do what it takes to get this issue with the media kit and/or driver fixed. Not multiple small bounties that one at a time are more of a bother to him than an offer, but as one large sum bounty.
beunited tried this, but was unable to. yellowTab looked like they were going to, but still, if they don't even reply to those that offer more money, there isn't a pool organization going on there. I don't know why they would not accept offers of help towards this pool, but that shows some poor organization, IMHO.
Step up and organize, just as Scottmc has now taken on with the Echo stuff. Let's give Marcus a dollar number that he'd at least consider how much work it would take him to complete. ;)

I read the Realtek talkback now, and can understand why you're upset... I guess you had most of things I suggested on your website before, but I didn't see them then, now they are taken down.
Well, judging by the last post,
"You have to admit that it's currently quite hard to find out how to donate to you", I'm not the only confused one...
The first post Marcus made after 7 months suggested he was still interested in writing drivers if it was worth his while, but now after reading that all the paypal links etc. are down, and the email bouncing I'm not sure.
Well, I guess it's just a hopeless situation. Let's see, hopefully Yellowtab can do something with the unfinished driver, as I think Marcus is pretty pissed about all this (and rightly so).

"the paypal account is no longer used"
You should check the account for donations tough. It's well possible that after you made the drivers available for free some (or me at least) came to the idea of donating to you.
I think donations work better than selling something in this community. Probably fewer people donate than would have bought the driver, but I guess the amount per donation is bigger on the other hand.
You have to admit that it's currently quite hard to find out how to donate to you. If there is just an email address you don't know wether it's connected to a paypal account, so I think a "Make a donation" button on the homepage would encourage this form of "payment" more.
